Calipari on radio talk show...this is funny...

  • This is funny…

Calipari was on the Mike Francesa show and after he left Francesa commented that Calipari is not a great “Xs and Os” coach and Calipari calls back to argue he is. Super funny and completely embarrassing for the squid.

    Link to article and audio…

He claims that he is called “Cal the magician”…and obvious link to the wizard of Westwood, that is John Wooden for all you younger posters.

It will break the monotony of a slow news day…

  • @JayHawkFanToo He damn sure doesn’t know when to foul !! And I sure am glad. Go Mario !! LOLOLOLOL-NC !!

I’m getting to be an old man these days. When I look back on my life a few lessons stick out as many of you old timers can attest to. One of them is a person that is good at something never has to debate he or she is good at something, everybody already knows. It’s a given, a fact, and they will tell you other wise if believe the contrary.

Lets put it into prospected here. It would be like somebody coming on here saying Jaybate doesn’t have the power to write or articulate is point of view with words. Jaybate wouldn’t have to say a word or make a rebuttal. Most of us on here would laugh such person of the website.

This is why I find this topic funny. Cal found it necessary to call into a radio show and defend that he can coach. Really? None of the great Coaches would ever do this.

  • I’ve had a feeling Calipari was an anonymous poster on the old KUSports.com site (back in the days before Kubuckets).

    He’s that kind of guy.

  • @globaljaybird 🙂 👍

  • Isn’t it pretty lame to give yourself a nickname? I think “the squid” fits him to a tee.

  • Cal is a recruiter end of story. Without the talent on his roster he is not a winner. Self, Smart, Stevens, and others have made the elite 8 without 5 of the most talented kids in the country on their roster. I also think its funny all of the recient publicity about how Cal wouldn’t leave UK, not even for LeBron. LeBron wasn’t even on the table when the offer was presented to him. He would have jumped at the opportunity to win at the NBA level no questions asked. I honestly think Self would have gone too. The point is HCBS is not saying he wouldn’t leave KU for LeBron.

  • @Statmachine

Why would any team in the NBA want to hire the squid? He coached in the NBA for 3 years and his record is 72 wins and 112 losses, and a .391 overall winning percentage.

The main advantage he has in college is that he can “magically” provide “benefits” under the table that other coaches cannot or are not willing to do; there is a reason why he calls himself “Cal the magician,” since he can magically make test scores change and money appear in player’s families pockets. In the NBA every team can pay players so the main advantage he has in college does not exist in the NBA, and when his coaching ability alone is considered, it just does not measure up.

  • @JayHawkFanToo I hate Coach Cal. He is a conceited, arrogant blow hard and I hate that he is in the spot light all the time and he is probably my least favorite coach in all of sports. Let’s just get that out of the way. But is he really a cheater who gives benefits and money to kids? I kind of doubt it. Or to say it another way, does he commit crimes that no one else at the highest level in college basketball does? I seriously doubt it. The way that every high level team lands the cream of the crop recruits is a dirty business. I just think Coach Cal tells these high level recruits what they want to hear. “You are going to pay for a major program, you are going to be on TV every game, you are going to go to the NBA if you come here and play. Look at the kids I have put in the league…Rose, Davis, Wall, et cetera”. This seems to be working for him. Again, I can’t stand him and UK is number one on my list of teams I hate but I think the “Cal is a cheater” comments are a bit old and we just have to accept that while he is at UK they are going to get a large amount of McD’s players and we have to be ready to meet the challenge.

  • @joeloveshawks Man - get off the fence. Do you like Cal or not??

  • @JayHawkFanToo

“Why would any team in the NBA want to hire the squid? He coached in the NBA for 3 years and his record is 72 wins and 112 losses, and a .391 overall winning percentage.”

Because he knows his Os and Xs!

He goes “OOOOO” after his teams get X’d!

  • @drgnslayr

    Now, that was funny…

  • @JayHawkFanToo said:> Link to article and audio…

really hilarious… wow. I can’t believe its in Cal’s best interest to debate this on the air as a call-in listener… Funny and strange all at once.

  • @joeloveshawks

Cal is the only coach that has had not one but 2 Final Four appearances (and one entire season at Memphis) vacated by the NCAA; this means that he has left EVERY school he has coached on probation. If I were a betting man I would bet that after he leaves UK (or maybe before) there will be some more vacated games.

I will give him credit for this, he is smart enough to delegate the dirty work to his acolytes and not get caught personally. I would say that Calipari and UK basketball, one of the most penalized and corrupt programs in college sports, deserve each other. Here is a little taste of it…

Gheez… that link just burned up a chunk of my evening rereading all the posts. My posts on there have been pulled. I must not have remained appreciated at KUSports after their user verification debacle when I was caught using a bogus ID.

Kind of felt good… reminiscent of my time spent as a Jayhawk student in the 70s with a fake ID. Laws were different back then…

Amazing how the UK fans can equate NCAA violations of helping a player (Askew) who didn’t even attend Kansas but needed emergency air fare to see his dying grandmother one last time (Kansas violation) to point shaving deals and lavish payoffs to players for coming to your school (Kentucky violations).

  • @drgnslayr Wow I just wasted 10-15 min on that myself, but is amazing how much of a waste the total flippin blog was. Man I do not miss kusports.com. one iota. That was just a train wreck of a site & I’m damn glad it’s history for all (most) of us here. In fact, I’ll drink to that-maybe a couple while I’m at it…Cheers & have a great weekend…

  • @globaljaybird

Likewise… toss one back for me!

  • @JayhawkfanToo Funny seeing how UNC is mentioned in the last line of that article - “I admire how KU and UNC will reach the 2,000 level a whole lot more.”
