Zion Tipoff Time Tea Leaves

  • This UK article doesn’t think it bodes well that Zion changed his announcement time to 8:15 EST on ESPN2, because that coincides with UK’s tipoff time.

Read into the tea leaves what you will. All times EST. You folks in the midwest hinterlands will need to read the leaves adjusting for CST.

    UNC 2:00

    Clemson 4:00

    SC 6:00

    KU 6:00

    UK 8:15

  • @mayjay

Interesting that the UK publications mention everybody but KU and seems to be by design. Also interesting how they call Zion the most talented and recruited player since LeBron but indicate he is the #2 player in the class; if he is that good, shouldn’t he be #1?

I know the front runner appears to be Clemson with SC making a late push and the win over UK probably helps some. I would say he is Clemson’s to lose.

A couple of things to consider include the fact that the announcement will be 15 minutes after the KU game is over and during the after game press conference, coincidence? Also, in the picture on the first link he is wearing an Adidas shirt, again, coincidence? I know KU is a long shot but sometimes long shots do come in.😃

  • @JayHawkFanToo I think he is an adidas guy. The Lebron references I have seen about Zion (none in this article) are about him being the best known high school player since Lebron. Barrett is from Toronto, I believe, and, lacking all the Zion monster videos, seems much less well-known nationally.

If Clemson had finally won at NC last week after 58 straight losses in Durham, that could have been a big boost. But maybe Zion will want the challenge to do it next year.

Oh, these kids, trying to pick a school knowing they will be multimillionaires in about 17 months. Wonder what that is like…wow!

  • @JayHawkFanToo … P.S.: Why in the heck are you up at God-awful-o’clock?

  • @mayjay

I am a late night type of person; seldom go to bed before 4 AM and I do some browsing before going to sleep. Normally up by 8 or 9. If you follow the links in the article on the first link you provided, the comparisons to LeBron are there and they talk about Clemson, SC, UNC and even Duke but not KU.

  • @JayHawkFanToo I wasn’t willing to explore enemy territory that deeply!

  • Nice reporting & I like where your heads at Mr. JayhawkFanToo

  • I believe Clemson was the last team to see him. tea leaves say its them

  • Duke? You gotta be kidding…Duke? I have to say I did not see this coming. Now they have the top 3 players of the 2018 class and Coach K has officially replaced Calipari as THE top “recruiter” and maybe it will place a gigantic bull’s eye for the FBI to go poking around. I just hope our 3 recruits play much better than their recruits at the All Star game.

  • @JayHawkFanToo Even with his edge on players he gets, intimidation of court officials, automatically coaching the national team and so on; I don’t think he is as affective as he once was.

  • This is why I don’t drink tea.

  • @Gunman

No matter how you spin it, when you get the top 3 players of one class, inspite of what he will have returning, it makes you the top recruiter. FWIW, Calipari complains to the refs every bit as much as Coach K or Huggy do.

Complaining isn’t the issue, it’s the affect it has on the officials that causes concern.

  • @JayHawkFanToo I don’t care what our recruits or theirs do at the all star game. We need our recruits to come to KU and perform extremely well. Other than Josh we have not had much luck or production from the so called top dogs lately. Just hope they all stay healthy and injury free and TROUBLE FREE. If we can get Romeo, that would give us five top 40 kids next year. (Silvio). If they all keep their heads on straight and perform to their hype, we should be in great shape with them added to our transfers.
