“To basically play six guys and pull it off when we were totally gassed, I'm really proud of my team.”

  • Listening to how great Kentucky is all night from Vitale can wear on this Jayhawk fan’s nerves. Kentucky will be much better as the year progresses, so will KU, but because of an empty bench, our practice time will be cut to about one hour a day.

I woke up to a picture of Marcus Garret, Malik Newman and Udoka Azubuke with the caption, “Experienced Jayhawks defeat UK.” ?

With five minutes left in the game and the game tight, Doke, who hit two straight free throws earlier for the first time ever, was standing at the line trying to breath. Coach had Mitch waiting to come in and give him a breather so he might be able to finish the last three minutes on the court. He missed both free throw and Kentucky got the rebound. Doke played four more possessions before a time out. He blocked a shot and got two big rebounds during those possessions.

Clay Young might become the next Christian Moody.

  • @wrwlumpy we watched 90% of the game with the annoying little man muted. He is insufferable.

Serious question: Does anyone in the US of A actually like DV? Why is he still on air?

  • Doke was more amazing than I could have hoped for last night.

I used to like him, not so much lately though. His excitement for the game is great and his unique personality are positives. However, he was literally cheering for Kentucky most of that game, its poor job performance for someone who is supposed to be neutral while on air.

It is kindof fun when he is cheering for the other team and then that other team ends up losing though. 😆

  • Yeah I really can’t stand Dick Vitale. It’s kinda weird because I do like Gus. They aren’t technically that different, but Dukie V just annoys me.

  • @RockkChalkk I didn’t see the cheering at all. The focus was on UK because of their freshmen and the uncertainty surrounding them. I saw many complimentary comments to both teams.

Then again, I never see all that bias so many complain about.

  • @RockkChalkk I hear ya. - Yet we all know between Kentucky & ANY ACC eam we know just how far V has his nose buried up their ya – especially Duke. - -personal I think it’s time Dickie move to green pasture - get some new voices in on the game. - -Actually and I know some will disagree - but I like Jay Williams - I think he is pretty decent. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @BShark Yes! just posted similar thoughts on another thread here. Super happy with Dokes play and he was my favorite player last night.

And yes, I am sooooo tired of DV. And even my non-sports minded gf commented on how even when we had the lead and made some great plays, they kept talking about how good their frosh were and showing UK highlights. Nothing unusual, but still gets old after awhile.

I’ve always appreciated Dick Vitale. I know he’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but he’s been our games biggest fan. What sometimes happens though with legendary people like him is they grow old and the younguns come up and think, who’s this old guy and why is he talking like that? So I think his time to go is approaching. He’s 78.

I’ve always thought he has had the greatest of respect for KU. He comes to AFH and gushes non stop about the place, the fans, the program. We could do a lot worse (fran) than Dicky V.

  • @wissox I agree. All everyone does is whine and moan all night and day about him. He is such a good advocate for cancer research, humanitarian work and the game of basketball. People need to give it a rest and focus on other things.

  • Seemed like every outro to commercial break was a Kentucky marketing piece, also. Felt like I was watching the Big Blue Nation Network.

  • @HawkChamp

Sorry but I disagree. Being a great humanitarian, which he is, has nothing to do with doing commentary on a basketball game. There is no question that he loves the game and he is super hyped about it but his shtick wears thin after a while. He holds Duke and UNC and the ACC above everybody else and he does not hide his bias; not what you want from a sports announcer.

  • Give me Dicky V over Jay Bilas ANYTIME. I damn near puked listening to him gloat about how Duke is “head and shoulders” above everyone else in the country and how he wants to personally lick the soles of their shoes. I might have made that last part up, but if they wanted him to - he would. By the way - Duke is no better than anyone else from what I’ve seen. They’ve got better refs and a good player who should be, if not in prison, at least not playing because of his crap attitude and subtle elbow smashes to the faces and ribs of competitors. Oh wait - he plays for Coach God K - never mind - he can do what he wants.

  • @wissox @JayHawkFanToo @HawkChamp I am not young so I have despised Dv’s announcing (read: inane yelling) for decades. And hold your hat but I am gonna agree with JHF2 here 😄. Has zero to do with him as a person, he is just a horrible announcer. Bilas is fair, knowledgeable, and articulate. Vitale is noise…and adds no substance. Man I miss bob and max. (Btw…I think Haney and Gurly are terrible too, so I cannot be accused of homerism on this one).
