Quentin Grimes Is A Jayhawk (MONSTER CLASS ALERT)

  • bill self is eating this recruiting class up!!!

  • @BeddieKU23

When you consider the transfers that will be eligible, it will be a monster class and with experience to boot. I wish the ranking services would have one that includes transfers since it is a truer indicator of the class strength.

Yeah with today’s landscape everyone is taking transfers so maybe including them in rankings would be something that places start doing in the future. It looks likely we’ll end up with a Top 5 class even without the transfers.

  • @BeddieKU23

KU is currently ranked 2 or 3 depending on publication; with Grimes and one more player KU likely ends up 1 or 2. Interesting that current Rivals #33 Kentucky has only 1 - 5 star recruit signed to date but several prospects in the pipeline…maybe prospects are hearing rumors about the FBI investigation related to them, same with #20 Arizona with only 2 left signed.

    Other schools of interest to KU fans #28 UCLA with only 2 - 3 stars, #43 MU with 1 - 4 star and 2 - 3 stars, a big drop from its current class, #55 WVU 2 - 3 stars, #59 Baylor 1 - 4 star, #63 Wichita State 3 - 3 stars. #81 KSU 1 - 3 star. Louisville and South Carolina not listed in the top 100.

  • @JayHawkFanToo

Duke will probably be #1 when they land RJ Barrett.

Zion will move up Kentucky a ton (if they land him) and they are likely taking another 5 star or borderline 5 in Keldon Johnson or Tyler Herro. They won’t last at 33 but its weird to see them without a ton of early commits.

KU could land at #1 if they get Grimes and another top prospect (Zion or Langford) being the two we have a chance with. A top recruiting class for KU also says we are losing a ton so there’s always a give and take to a flashy class.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Arizona lose Shaq’s son (to Kentucky). There’s been rumors he might not be fully committed anymore.

UCLA could land Moses Brown which moves them up. I believe both their recruits are both Top 100 kids. We offered their one commit Bernard. They also are in the running for a few other 4 star recruits.

Spring will change a lot of classes as always

  • Well, UK pushed for and is getting a visit from Herro. UK people think it’s a rubber stamp visit and he will soon commit to UK. Interesting this happens after their last home visit with Grimes, can’t imagine why. @BeddieKU23 @jayballer54

  • Kentucky is probably out for Grimes. They aren’t getting all of him, Keldon Johnson, and Herro, even if Shai is a OAD (doubtful).

My heart tells me I think I know why. Cal just isn’t that confident they are going to end up with Grimes - -I think looking better for us all the time ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @BeddieKU23

Interesting to see Kentucky with only one signed recruit to date.

I am starting to think that maybe some prospects are waiting to see if the elite programs get caught in the FBI investigation. Arizona was getting top recruits and now it is under investigation; Louisville is now radioactive. Most everybody has wondered for years how the squid gets all the top prospects; I am sure the FBI has wondered the same thing. The Nike Summer League is under investigation and it is heavily tied to Nike schools. It really makes sense for a top recruit to wait and see where the chips fall; programs, even elite, will always make room for a top recruit regardless of how late he commits.

The FBI did arrest some key players in the Nike side of AAU as well. Who knows how that will shake out for Calipari and other Nike flagship programs but to a default Cal has had shady things happen in his program in the past. He’s not squeaky clean but who knows if his machine of OAD’s is anything more then a great salesmen and the ability to coach top talent into the NBA…

With his current class I believe the reason he only has 1 signed on right now is because this current batch of freshman is more potential then finished product. Diallo and Knox are OAD prospects. Vanderbilt before the injury seemed like a more then likely 1 year player as well. But Quade Green, Shai Alexander, Washington, Roberts all have to impress as freshman to start getting more attention then they getting. Baker is possibly a 4 year player who is now hurt as well. Recruits have said they think there is a good chance some of this class stays more then 1 year which has left some kids uncertain about a starting spot coming in. Quickley was a UK done deal for a long time so he was going to UK regardless. Also its been pointed out that Calipari missed the ball on the 2018 class trends. He didn’t offer a ton early and This class has seen a majority sign early. Programs made relationships early to keep UK from swooping in and taking kids they normally could slow play. Obviously they are trying to land Keldon Johnson and Tyler Herro who both were not on UK’s radar just a few months ago. Cal has also passed on some kids for some reasons or pissed off recruits who wanted him (Louis King & Langford) come to mind. Bol Bol looks like a done deal to Oregon and he was cut from Calipari’s Team USA team this summer. Calipari has been kind of put on a level playing field with the competition this recruiting class. Of course if I had to pick where Zion lands it seems that would be UK and he’s still a top 2 player in this class. 2019 UK has done some work early so I doubt they will have any trouble filling up with top kids.

  • So about that Dotson/Grimes backcourt! Looking more and more like a reality…

Absolutely giddy thinking about that dynamic next year

I would think hoping something would possibly start to leak out with Quentin - -see some kind of movement or something. - -Of course if there is no movement well then that should bode well for us cause we were way ahead in the CB - -so no movement otherwise would lead you to believe we in good shape. - -Really hoping he commits early early signing less then a wekk away -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

This is from a Marquette poster that seemed pretty tied in. In case anyone here missed it.

"Got official word. MU is out of the race. Felt really good after the visit but couldn’t seal the deal. MU has cancelled their in home and is moving on. Heard that UK is officially out too. Makes it a two horse race…with one horse significantly ahead of the other one. The TU visit today might have just been a courtesy to tell Shaka in person. "

See , well if he is really tied in - -that’s good to hear. - -See this is what I’ve been feeling all along too, that NOT Kentucky - -BUT Texas is/was our biggest challenge for Grimes.

Now not saying they would win the battle - -just I felt they were the biggest Challenge - -Not Kentucky - -hope he will commit now in the early period what a class. - -We land Quentin then hell I don’t care even some middle level say some kind of other big - - -Doesn’t have to be Zion -just a solid 3-4 maybe top 100 player from somewhere something like that I’d be good to go - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • Was. Definitely was. Past tense is important.

Also @jayballer54 glad to see you are aboard the Grimes and 1-2 rt donks plan. However, there might be some interesting developments with Romeo…

Oh? – really? – what might that be? - -heard something possibly? - -any chance things have turned or at least leveled the board possibly for us. - -Just seemed that Indiana had pretty much taken over for him. - -So maybe a sniff of a chnce yet? - -hope so - -let me know man. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @jayballer54 Watch for Garland to commit to Vandy. If he does, that’s good for KU. Langford wants to play with other 5*s. He is also good friends with Grimes.

OK but just because Garland commits to Vandy - -which it looks like he is going to - how does that help us - we weren’t recruiting Garland? - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • It makes IU much less appealing to Langford…

  • KU never seriously recruited Garland.

  • But if you type Garland Vanderbilt as a search…Wow. People are sick.

Bingo! Howard hit a homer on his visit with Langford earlier.

  • @jayballer54 It is funny how various things like menus or links show up nonobviously on the screen and you might never know they are there until someone points it out.

I hate programs where things are invisible until you happen to have your cursor nearby and then they magically appear. Luckily, this one is not like that.

  • Last twitter follow: Silvio De Sousa ☕ 📰

  • Almost like it will happen soon…

  • Dotson, Grimes, McCormack, De Sousa – one of Self’s best classes, not a presumed OAD to be found. Just need Grimes to join the party.

Grimes and Silvio could be. I do think Silvio is at least a two year guy unless his handler(s) are dead set on it.

Dotson and McCormack should be 3+ year guys. If Dotson absolutely explodes maybe only two years but that season probably ends very well for KU…

  • @HighEliteMajor

…and this does not even include the 3 quality transfers who will also be able to play and were all 4 stars, Dedrick #37, KJ #54 and Moore #55 and who compared to newcomers Dedrick would certainly be a 5 star and the others pretty close to it. Monster class when all incoming players are considered.

I’d a take a RS JR Dedric Lawson over any one post recruit in the 2018 class. Not close. Moore and KJ are solid bench contributors. 👍

  • Dedric would start on almost any team in America right now. Putting up 19/12 is no joke. He’s going to be an absolute monster once Hudy gets done with him. Keep in mind he was putting up those numbers as one of the least athletic guys in the country.

Incredibly skilled player. Preston and Dedric are two of the most skilled post forwards Self has ever had. If Dedric could play this year I’d put KU as the title favourite.

Grimes himself liked that tweet. Seems positive.

  • I asked Matt Scott about Grimes and he replied with a big grinning smiley face. SO I MEAN…

  • Tifwiw but I read on a Marquette forum that Grimes said on his visit there that he is headed to Kansas. The source is a current player on the Marquette team.

This honestly does make sense given how quickly Marquette seemed to move on after the visit and their insiders are saying they are out etc…

  • Garrett, Dotson, Grimes. Self really evaluating and closing like a mad man

  • of course the assistants get a high-five as well. Stellar job they are doing

There is a person in his camp that wants this, but it’s looking like they have been tuned out or that person has just accepted it.

I will be very glad once Grimes has, presumably, signed with KU and this person is no longer a concern.

  • @BShark

Snacks is definitely proving to be a good recruiter in the last year or so

  • Garrett, Jacobs, McCormack and likely Grimes. For those keeping score at home.

Before that he had only really landed Cliff so it’s good to see him get some kids on board.

So then as we are expect , Quentin commits with us - -then are we done for the year? - -Or do you think we still try to add yet another player? - -If we do what ya think we would be looking at? - -Seems to me with Grimes , Dotson, Moore, Garrett next year backcourt would be pretty much set -I’m just unsure for what position they would look after these. - -Frontline next year we will have De-Sousa - -McCormack both Lawson’s & Lightfoot - -and it not a 100 % given that Doke will be gone - then you have Cunliffe - -either spot front or backcourt - Could play the 2 spot possibly - -or the small forward so which way would they go you think? - - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @BShark Sounds better all the time - -Always have felt pretty confident with him - -but you just never know till he signs that LOI - -good to hear - -hopefully this weekend. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
