Non-Conference games for the Big-12
-
Anyone check out these schedule’s other Big-12 teams are playing? Looks like the Big-12 predicted they would be down in 17-18. I know schedules are made well in advance but mannnnnnnnnn.
Full disclaimer: KU doesn’t play a daunting schedule either but has 6 Power 5 teams, 7 if we include Texas A&M in January.
Kentucky will be toughest game, Syracuse & Stanford won’t be pushovers either. It would help our RPI etc if they are “up” this season.
South Dakota St will be the classic example of some random dude dropping 35 against us (Mike Daum), especially on 2 days rest from the Kentucky game. Mike Daum has been one of the best players not many know of for 2 years running. This team won 22 games and will give us a big test at home. Overlook them at your own peril.
But a quick look;
Baylor- Central Arkansas, Texas A&M CC, Alcorn St.
After 3 games against teams with a pulse (Wisconsin, Xavier, Wichita St) they go back to playing more helpless YMCA clubs including:
Sam Houston St, Randall University, Texas Southern (KU plays them earlier), Savannah St, and lastly, Southern to round out that rockin’ schedule.
Iowa St- opens @ Mizz then falls in an abyss playing Milwaukee, Appalachian St, Western Illinios then Northern Illinois.
Oh Iowa they are a P5 team (#2), poor Alcorn St, Northern Iowa (usually good), then finally Maryland-Eastern Shore( Whatever that means).
K-St- American, UMKC, UC Irvine, Northern Arizona, Arizona St (Power 5 team #1), Oral Roberts, Vandy (P5 team #2), South Carolina Upstate, Tulsa, Southeast Missouri St and last but not least Washington St.
Oklahoma- Gets a pass for playing teams such as Wichita St, USC, Northwestern sprinkled in with Omaha, Ball St, North Texas, Texas San Antonio.
Oklahoma St- Only 3 Power 5 teams on the schedule if you include not officially one Wichita St.
TCU- Astoundingly will face ZERO Power 5 teams before conference play. SMU far and away the only game that helps them.
Texas- 2 Power 5 teams on the schedule. Butler & VCU as well. 6 cupcakes sprinkled in.
Texas Tech- 2 teams with a pulse until conference play.
West Virginia- cupcakes + Texas A&M, Virginia & Pitt.
How is the Big-12 getting 7 or so teams in the tourney with those slates again?
The other shocking discovery of looking at the schedules. How are there 350 D-1 teams?

Daum is a very good player but they are still sub 100 on Kenpom. Maybe if KU has a big emotional win they overlook them. Hope not.

@BeddieKU23 Nice breakdown. I was thinking there were over 300 NCAA teams, got called out on it and too lazy to check. Thanks for (unknowingly) saving me from doing my due diligence!

What value does Kenpom have right now?
I use Kenpom a ton so its not a criticism to the system.
SDS won 22 games last year, returns one of the leading scorer’s in the country as well as its 2nd leading scorer as well.
Daum plays a position we struggle to defend and will be playing against a Freshman, a seldom used Soph, or a Soph who played 11 games last season.
I don’t think we lose but this game will be close and a better game then it looks for this team going forward. The fact KU has to travel for a neutral game against Kentucky then fly back and play 2 days later is the cause for concern. How do you motivate them to be up for the Jackrabbits after slapping the Wildcats around.

It’s too many, I think 351 is the official count. Crazy amount of teams.

Ya went through the same schedule last night. - -Seen just a couple of different then you listed.
Baylor: - -other then you listed , have possible matchup with UCLA, as they play the winner of UCLA/Creighton. - - Then they play Florida in the big 12/sec
Iowa St: - - no answer for - -just pitiful.
K-State: - - -psssssssssssssst please pathetic.
Oklahoma:I think o top of what you mentioned maybe they have Arkansas - - - possible N Carolina - - -Then Alabama in big 12 /sec
Oklahoma St: - -teams that is going to give them trouble, might help other then WSU - - -Texas A&M - - -Florida St - - & Arkansas - - even possibly Pitt be a good match for them.
TCU: - - They have that more then likely possibility of playing - -Maryland – -& then Vanderbilt in the big 12 /sec
Texas: - could be the ones you mentioned but I didn’t see Duke mentioned more then likely unless they lose to Portland State lmao. - - then Michigan – & Alabama their only decent games.
Texas Tech: - - -psssssssssssssst another no answer - -excuse for pitiful. West Virginia: - - Other then Virginia, their high ite will be against Kentucky in the big 12 /sec challenge,
A lot of weak teams on the schedules. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Not a ton, but still.
I don’t think it will be a blowout either for the reasons already mentioned. If KU loses to Kentucky otoh they are going to want to get that taste out of their mouth quickly.

Basketball schedules usually aren’t made too far in advance like football. Most high profile match ups are made a year or two out and the quality of schedule generally reflects the level of expectations of the team that season.

Anyone watching the exciting Ksu/emporia game on fskc? 16-9 w/7:50 left first half.
