Steere looks like a plan D to me.

He’s much better than Plan D. Sign him up

I suppose it depends who you think KU can really land. If the staff thinks Steere is good and prioritizes him then that will be interesting. He’s definitely a late riser. I just hope he isn’t waiting around for a UNC offer. Right now KU is his biggest offer by a fair bit I’d say.

Exactly, with Lawson on board we are not getting an elite PF. So getting someone with great athletic ability and further development to un-tap I think is a great option to put along side Dedric. I think he plays with Dotson right? Nice to build a line of recruits from NC as we’ve pushed for Dotson/Wiggins/Seere.

KU has been recruiting Aaron Wiggins & Days pretty hard lately. Both will see big jumps in their current rankings. I get the impression one of these guys could end up at KU.

I’d love to get both. Days despite his size is a PF. Maryland people think they will get Wiggins. Wouldn’t be a huge loss since KU could have 3 returning wing players.

Definitely, best case is Vick/Garrett/Cunliffe are still on the roster in 2018 and then you have KJ who looks like he will be a wing as well. That would really put getting a wing at a low priority but we’ll see what happens. I think a wing who can play SG as well would still be a priority which I think Wiggins fills nicely. Days, correct looks like a more undersized PF then a big wing.

The biggest domino to fall for KU’s class is who it gets at PG. Because its unlikely Newman will be around after this year Grimes is obviously priority #1 thru 50,000. Grimes fills that combo guard position that Self covets so much. I hate to say we are depending on getting a Top 15 player but Grimes is literally the best fit recruit we are after in the class.

  • Right actually possibly 4 wings, I forgot about Cunliffe. In that case I can’t see a wing being added at all.

Grimes/Carey/Steere would be a nice class, and I think quite possible. Might have to take more bigs though. If Preston and Doke both go after this year that’s 3 post scholarships to fill. Just one more year out of one or both would be ideal to bridge to 2019.

  • @BeddieKU23

I would be shocked if Garrett and Cunliffe are not on the roster in 2018. Cunliffe would have played barely two semesters of college ball (and wasn’t an OAD to begin with). Garrett is not a likely OAD, either.

Vick could make the jump after his junior year. He may be in a position similar to what Svi was in this year. I don’t have much in the way of a guess right now. Need to wait and see how Vick’s season starts out before making an assessment - consistency and ball handling will be the key things to look for.

    @jayballer54

I am not completely sold on Harvey yet. I can see the talent there, but he doesn’t get to showcase his ball handling and creativity very much in Hayden’s offense. I haven’t seen him on the AAU circuit yet, but I would like to see him be a bit more dynamic because he won’t be able to get all of his offense within the regular flow of the system as the competition and defense improve. Basically, I need to see him be able to cut loose outside the system.

  • @justanotherfan

I see both on the roster in 2018 but you never know with today’s kids, Cunliffe left after a semester for KU. Garrett will be one to follow especially as he settles into a position in College which could be any guard position. I imagine the NBA is going to be intrigued with his size and skill going forward.

Vick will be limited somewhat by Svi this year but I think he’ll have every opportunity by years end to test the combine. He’s likely to be a combine star with his athleticism and measurable’s I’m assuming. That’s why I think we have to recruit wings, there’s a real chance our top 4 guards are gone next season.

I think we have to recruit like the position is wide open. Losing Graham & Svi for sure. Newman, most likely gone- Vick? Wildcard depending on his year. Moore, Cunliffe, Garrett, Lawson is a nice core that obviously needs another PG and a shooter. I think KU should always be looking to have 6 scholarship available guards/wings. So important to have depth and flexibility with today’s game.

  • @BeddieKU23

I am assuming Newman is gone for sure. So a minimum of 3 guards for the class. If Garrett, Cunliffe, Vick and KJ are all still on the roster it would take a pretty high impact wing to start. I would think the staff would want to add 3 more PG/CG types, with one almost assuredly having to be a development project with Moore already on the roster. That would be 4 1/2 guards and 4 wings. That’s already leaving a couple guards/wings really unhappy with their pt not counting the completely developmental 8th guard. I think it’s needed though. Unless Garrett shows he is capable of being at least a 2 guard under Self this team needs ball handlers. I think Grimes and Carey are fantastic fits but the possible third guard recruit wouldn’t matter a ton for next year, unless it was some kind of Bill Self miracle. Hard to see Self adding another top 25-ish guard/wing commit and Grimes though. Vick leaving would change things too.

Then again all this assumes the roster will be filled, which has been an issue lately since kids just want to play, not sit on the pine and develop.

Also if Preston and Doke are going to go pro and have their minds made up I would assume the staff knows and will recruit with this information. I think how KU recruits bigs in the early period will say a lot.

It’s still only May, can the season get here yet? 😀

  • @BeddieKU23

I think Garrett is going to be on the NBA radar. I just don’t think he will be an NBA candidate after one year. I do think he will do well at KU, but I see him in the same way I saw Vick coming in - a three or four year player. Garrett may not play a ton this year, but he will probably play quite a bit as a sophomore and junior.

  • @BShark Just for fun nothing more, nothing less, let’s remember this day.mark it down so we can look back. - -You say Doke is gone after this year - -And I say he will still be here two years this year and then another. Your pretty set he is gone - -I’m set he is staying, again just for giggles - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @justanotherfan

Agree I see him as at least a 3 year player. He might not get significant playing time until then depending on roster movements/additions.

No. I said if he was for sure in his intent then the staff would know and it would be apparent based on how the staff recruits post players in the early period. Also if KU lands a couple big time post prospects early, it’s a safe bet that at least Preston is for sure gone, probably Doke too.

    I hope Doke stays.

  • Read an article of Question and Answer with Markese off 247 sports. - -The kid really does look kind of like Sheron, pretty muscle bound - -he credits that to his 3 years of football.

They ask him about why he committed to KU to which he said: - -Loved the feeling walking around campus - - loved the program - - that we always win - - we have had guards like Markese - -and we produce pro’s.

Was ask what Ku was asking him to work on. - -He said Ku wanting him to work on being a lock down defender - - Work hard on playing hard defense

Ask what he brings: - -he says Brings energy - - Brings the full package

I’m ready - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • I’d feel pretty good about Jalen Carey. He is sounding like an early signing period decision.

  • @jayballer54 only way he stays 2 is injury.

  • @approxinfinity His injury from last year is EXACTLY my reasoning for staying two seasons yet to come, this year then next. - He was in able to do almost anything and a lot of that had to do with conditioning, he wasn’t able to lift really a whole lot of nothing. - -He was already raw when he came in -last year’s inury did nothing to improve his development. - Developmental wise he really is not that much further along then last year. - -He has along ways to go for the NBA at this point. Sure the potential is there, but still so much to learn – offensively and defensively. Right now well last year he couldn’t stay on the floor because of foul trouble - -Well? - - what has he done to improve his defense?- - Very limited game experience- -he has yet to develop in so many ways

He would have to improve in so many ways to be at the NBA level right now. - -Did you notice how many under classman returned and with drew from the NBA combine this year? - - -73! ! - -73 ! ! ! - and those were Soph and Jr’s loaded with college game experience as good or even better then Doke and the NBA telling them to go back to school. He would have to have a MONSTEROUS season to think about going after this one year. - -Not saying he won’t be good Or he isn’t good, BUT big difference between being Good College and Good NBA.

All Doke has to do is sit back and look at all these guys that left to early and see where they are at now. - -Ya, he has TWO yrs here, no doubt in my mind. - If he does go - -then I’m sorry - he IS NOT READY right now no offensive game other then a dunk - - needs to develop some kind of shot any shot with some consistency, needs work on the defensive end for the NBA. - -just to much risk for him at this point. - -Again a lot of players at least as good as him with all kinds of playing experience that the NBA told to return to school - -and they did. BUT hey that’s your opinion and nothing wrong with that and your welcome to it -just as this is mine and the same, time will tell. - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @approxinfinity

You never know. Remember many thought Bragg would be a OAD and then, last season he was picked out to be the KU breakout player and projected to go lottery. Well…he is gone but not to the NBA and it will be at least 2 more years before he can even test the wasters.

  • @jayballer54 how many 17 year olds could dominate Duke? He’s already proven that he has elite abilities and can execute in pressure situations. There is a lot of room for growth, yes, but his floor is already the penthouse!

So thought you were going to say his floor is the roof!! haha

  • His floor is the roof! Svi will be Sviiling it, Udoka will be Ceiling it.

  • @approxinfinity Small amount of time to dominate anyone, Again what happened? - -he got in to foul trouble. - -That again is just an area he has to get better at. - If he can’t stay on the floor he does us no good. Again that’s what he has to work at - No offensive game at all at this point - not going to accomplish that in one year --not enough for NBA level ball anyways Frank took care of Duke as much as anyone – WHY? - - glad you asked. Cause he could stay on the floor, how many games did Frank even get in any foul trouble. - -Just a difference of players - -difference of experience, Sure Doke is a rim protector - -rebounder - -but a liability if he has a mobile big at this point, - -again at this point if he is out on the floor. - - Doke is going to be a big target for other teams at the beginning of the year anyways they are goin to take it right to him to try and get him in foul trouble - And that is where he has to improve - --ALOT. Don’t think I don’t really like Doke but I’ll love him more after being here for two years. - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY-

  • It’s hard to teach someone to be 7ft. Oh and coordinated. He’ll have plenty of NBA opportunities (they draft on potiental and he’s oozing potiental). I just hope he shows out in a KU uni first. A Jr. Dok/Lawson combo would be pretty sweet.

  • @jayballer54

Maybe easy classes aren’t the draw they once were?

  • Updates to 247 composite. KU targets

Bagley- #1 (KU in his top 6, staying in 2018)

    Williamson- #2 (no idea?)

    Jordan Brown- #5 (KU involved)

Quickley- #9 (KU in top 4)

Grimes- #12 (KU will make his Top 5)

Smart- #13 (KU in top 6)

Bol Bol - #14 (mentioned KU recently)

Williams - #18 (slow playing, will most likely be spring)

Quinerly- #19 (Believe KU in his top 7?)

King #31 (said recent KU involved)

Hamilton #33 (has had a poor spring, Duke offered)

Dotson #40 (KU in his top 4, likely to cut to 8 soon)

McCormack #45 (said to be involved)

Wiggins #62 (big mover, still too low)

Days #67 (big mover, has been offered)

Carey #82 (way too low Top 40 player, KU likely to get a visit)

  • @BeddieKU23 Also heard a little something about a player I believe his name is Aaron Wiggins? - -I think I looked on 247 rankings and I believe he was like 82? - -Read an article and it was talking about how he was having a good year But I think something to the effect he had to get tougher kind of soft. - -We were in with him also. --Can anyone tell us anymore about him? - -Thanks for the update - some of these guys I didn’t even realize we were in on -what a surprise lol. - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @jayballer54

Wiggins is solid, probably a Top 40 prospect. Still has lots of room to develop, has great size for the 2/3 at 6’6 and a really nice outside shot. From North Carolina which is an area we’ve been recruiting hard recently. Maryland people think they have a great chance, maybe they do. He’s gotten a lot of new offers this spring but KU is one of the few programs that have kept in touch with him everyday he said recently. Will he leave the East is the biggest question and we might not have immediate playing time for him. We’ll see how this one progresses.

There are actually more guys that KU is after then I listed. Moses Brown #8 but I can’t see him seriously considering KU without knowing Doke is gone.

Darius Garland #6 - been considered a Duke lean for a while but has a KU offer.

Bol- Don’t see him leaving the West for any team other than Kentucky.

Emmitt Williams- unless we become best friends with his handler, not likely with Lawson playing the PF.

Brandon Williams #20- Another not likely to leave the West but has visited KU.

Keldon Johnson# 21- KU has been in contact with him, lots of teams after him.

Jaylen Hoard #28- Has an offer I believe. Another NC kid.

Hamier Wright #51- almost reclassified to 2017, KU has kept contact but probably not a likely destination.

Jaedon Ledee & Jamie Lewis #59&60- Not sure what interest we have in them anymore. Lewis unofficial visited during the season.

Jules Bernard- Recent offer, West Coast most likely

David Duke- Offered during winter, not likely leaving the East.

Ian Seere #175- Another NC Kid, I think its likely we can get him if the staff presses. Has an offer.

  • I would be shocked if Brandon Williams isn’t an Arizona wild wild cat.

KU might have a decent shot at Bol, better than most think. Probably depends on if Doke stays or goes.

  • @BShark

I wouldn’t be surprised if Bol went to Zona with O’Neal. They play together on AAU and Ristic is a Sr. They are going to clean up on a lot of the premiere recruits from out west.

Agree on Williams, although they are recruiting Grimes just as much as KU… I would like to think we have the advantage with his mom and Adidas helping but I’m not that stupid to believe that anymore.

  • At this point and stage with the way recruiting goes these days, as long as they mention KU or KU mentions them, anymore I wouldn’t count any possibility out.

The way kids play this whole recruiting process out anymore, the pub, and the way these 17-18 yr old kids change their minds about where they are going as about as quickly if not faster then a woman trying to decide which dress to wear. - -It’s more like never say never until commitment day and NOW as much as we are now seeing a trend of asking for releases of LOL’S until they sign that letter and are o campus - -ANYTHING POSSIBLE - - likely - -no - -possible - -yes. - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Yeah Arizona has to be very tempting for recruits. Great location.

I’m hoping for Grimes and Carey, then fill in post players as needed.

Been watching recent Ian Steere videos. I’m coming around.

  • @jayballer54

Right its still early but at least there’s a whole bunch of kids KU is interested in or vice versa. We have cast a wide net this cycle and the domino’s start to come off the board after the summer ends into the fall as kids get on campus etc.

The biggest domino for KU will be Grimes. With his ability to play the PG spot or “combo guard” role he’s the key to the entire class. Pairing him with Moore and whatever returns at wing/SF is potentially a deadly combination of perimeter talent once again.

Doke is the biggest wildcard to 2018 recruiting for KU. If he returns his Jr year we still need a solid backup to him. If he leaves we’ll probably have some indication through the recruits that mention KU as a possible destination. @BShark has been saying this and I agree. If we are in it for the elite talent, its likely the staff is relaying what they think Doke may do. If recruits are passive about KU, its likely they think he could be around after this year.

Agree on Grimes/Carey, would be a dynamic duo. 2 biggest wants in this class.

Steere has the athletic ability we could really use, hard to see him not jumping in the ranks when its all said and done

  • Doke coming back and getting Steere would be a realistic pretty good scenario for KU.

If I’m dreaming, sign up Bagley.

And yes @jayballer54 it’s early, so it will take a bit for things to shake out. Kids do ask out of LOIs but usually it’s due to a coaching change, can’t blame the kid for that.
