Svi's return vaults KU to # 2 in preseason ESPN poll.

  • The best backcourt in the country still resides at Big-Man U.

  • Arizona/MSU/KU best three teams imo.

  • @wrwlumpy They had KU #1 prior to Akot reclassifying and joining Arizona this upcoming season instead of 2018.

  • @wrwlumpy Whooo dang!! Is it November yet!? I am so freeking psyched for this season to start!
And, look at those guys heading into the draft next year. Each one of them has the ability to work themselves into the 1st round! Each one. That is exciting to me Jayhawk fans! We will need to reload promptly after we win the national title next year. But we already have 3 guys slated to start for us in '18 with the Lawson bros and that other guard…name escapes me atm .

  • I think USC is being undervalued. Top 5 team they have IMO and could easily be the best Pac-12 team next season. There are anywhere from 5-7 NBA prospects on their team. Thornton who transferred from Duke most likely won’t even start! The O’Bannon freshman kid can play and he’ll have a tough time finding minutes. Big revival for that program after a positive end to their season in the NCAA’s last yr.

Arizona has some great talent but they lack a top PG. Cartwright has been nothing more then a role player for 3 years and the freshman they have I’m assuming will take time to acclimate. They don’t have a lot of depth inside, a JUCO will be the primary backup with a Top 100 undersized C in Ira Lee (KU recruited for a while). I think the hype for Arizona is a little overblown right now. Definitely have the talent but when has Sean Miller not had a stacked team and the season always ends far short of their goal…

  • CBS has had KU at #1 presuming Svi would return. ESPN jumped KU from #9 to #2 with the news of Svi’s return. Hopefully that means lots of TV time with the hype of being a top ranked team. Keep the highlights coming and the recruits interest piqued.

  • @dylans CBS dropped us to number 2, and moved up AZ to number 1.

Well Fox has USC ahead of us, so there is that.

  • @BeddieKU23

What am I missing? If I have it correctly, Ayton will likely start at center and he will backed by 7’ Center Dusan Ristic. Arizona will also have 4 start PF Ira LEE as well as Senior Keanu Pinder. Guards include Alonzo Trier, Rawle Alkins, Parker Jackson-Cartwright, Barndon Randolph and is likely the best back court in the PAC 12. No question Arizona is a legitimate top 10 team.

  • I think Arizona at 1 and us at 2 is pretty reasonable. I would enjoy a home and home with Arizona but I don’t know the interest level for both sides. I will believe USC is a top five team when I see it - a little unproven at this point. I have seen Duke also listed as a top ten team but again I think it is probably due to their typical hype. WSU will be a legit contender next year.

  • As in most years, we look good on paper, and have some depth. Some of it is unproven. Svi’s return is a big piece, dynamic player, who Self wants to become more aggressive.

4 guards: DG, Newman, Svi, Vick.

4 bigs: Udoka, Preston, Wm&Mary guy, Lightfoot.

Other bench depth TBD (to-be-developed), and its all gravy after the above 8.

  • My Mizzou fan inlaws seem to think their Tigers are going to win it all this year.

  • @JayHawkFanToo

Ayton Will play the 4 just like they played Markennan. Pinder is a solid rebounder but doesn’t do much else. Arizona last year had Commanche who bolted for the pros and was a real defensive presence off the bench. They will lack that going to their bench this season.

I think for a team that will probably be ranked 1 or 2 to start the season, you want better at PG then they have

How can they do this to themselves? They have so much history to look at.

Ehhh, Arizona will be excellent. PJC isn’t fantastic but he is a SR and just has to not take too many shots.

  • @BShark

I disagree about PJC. Between injuries and being passed on by more talented options he’s never proven to be the type of PG that an elite team needs. I think he’s become the option this year because Zona missed on other PG targets, as well as not expecting Simmons would bolt. He is a senior so that should help him but he’s pretty limited especially size wise. Arizona will face a lot of teams where the opposing PG is equal or better then theirs. I think that cannot be overlooked IMO. I could be wrong, I often am.

Don’t get me wrong Arizona on paper has everything to go as far as they want. I think PG play and their bench leave a bit to be desired compared to last years squad. Miller has also proven he disappoints often in March.

  • Well it could definitely bite them, especially if they run into a team that presses. But Trier/Alkins/Randolph/Ayton/Akot is a very solid core. Barcello might be the wildcard. I admittedly don’t know much about him, but if he shows a bit better than people expect and supplants PJC that could be huge for them.

  • Am I the only one who doesn’t get the least bit excited for preseason polls especially ones in May? We are are Kansas, we are preseason top 10 just about every single season and they seldom predict who actually wins the NC anyway. Not to sound rude but I dont care about rankings outside of the one released in april after the games are done.

  • @kjayhawks The preseason polls are entertainment value only. We all know that. Its just fun to kill the time between now and the fall with some pre season pontification.

  • 5 Veeerrryyyyy long months. Heavy sigh. Oh wait…ITALY!!! Cioa!

  • @HawkChamp USC has a very good coach in Andy Enfield who built up FGCU and took them to the Sweet 16. USC will be in the hunt for the PAC 12 all year this season.
