Thoughts from the Game

  • HUGE Win!

We were waiting for this team to step up and we got it. It wasn’t pretty, we’ve perfected winning ugly but winning ugly is better than losing period!

Let’s all pray Frank’s knee is okay. It looked touch and go for parts of that 2nd half. Anyway he came up with not only clutch shots but he rebounded the ball like a man. The season depends on his health going forward. Hopefully we get word that this is minor.

Huge shout-outs to Lagerald Vick & Carlton Bragg for putting on their big boy pants last night. Where have y’all been the past month? Hustle plays and a huge 18 points off the bench. That’s what we call stepping up.

    Paging Josh Jackson.

Anyone got his cell-phone number? Tell him to wake up and bring the goods on the road. That’s 3 straight awful Big-12 games on the road for him. We won’t always get production from Vick & Bragg that can mask him fouling himself out of games. I love this kid but where is his head on the road. I expect better, we all should expect better. He had some nice passes when not fouling and his basket late was clutch. Turn the page young fella.

    Landen Lucas.

You have perfected missing point blank shots but you have clearly become the steady force in the post we so desperately need. A solid 14-6 line is all we can possibly expect from you. Keep it up big fella.

    A sad sad fan-base.

I’m sure there are plenty of Iowa St fans out there that have a level head but the 14 thousand plus in Hilton Tragic last night paints a sad sad picture for a fan-base that so desperately wants to compete with KU. Watching those fans run for the door with just under 2 minutes left was all you needed to know about these guys. For those that stayed, you actually made it interesting but in the end it didn’t matter. Is there a fan-base in the Big-12 that has any class?

Now let’s all get some rest for Saturday when our next clown comes to town. You know that one that’s ridden the coattails of one victory his entire career.

  • @BeddieKU23 And how about their fans gasping and moaning and bellyaching about EVERY single call all night? They used to be more BBall savvy. They sounded like Texans and their low BBall IQ antics.

  • Check out JJ’s stat line, not totally a wasted game from him.

I was at AFH in 88 when KState and Mitch Richmond ended our 50 some game home court streak. When it looked inevitable we were going to lose, many fans began leaving. We in the student section began chanting at them “Don’t come back!”

ISU missed a lot of wide open looks. Glad they weren’t falling.

I was begging ESPN to show this replay. For some reason it wasn’t worthy of a replay. http://www.thescore.com/news/1210361

  • @BeddieKU23 I could not believe their fans started streaming out when they did. Geez…great fans! Any win in Ames is a great win. Not all of the contenders will win there…and now ISU has a home loss…Great! I was worried when we missed some shots we should make in the 2nd half…Lucas and Bragg with layups most notably. But they both finished enough shots to make the difference. Lucas could not handle Burton…but I guess the issue is…when Bowie is not in…who else is he gonna guard?

  • @Hawk8086 5 guards? What can we do w/him? Gotta run him, but are we getting more from our offensive end than from his O w/ll?

  • @Crimsonorblue22 That is the trade-off.

  • @BeddieKU23

    Bravo!

“Watching those fans run for the door with just under 2 minutes left was all you needed to know about these guys. For those that stayed, you actually made it interesting but in the end it didn’t matter.”

Think about that for a second… camping for several days in the cold and then leaving two minutes before the game was over. It would suck to be them. But what it really speaks (in volumes) is that they had no faith in their own team to challenge us at the end. They had given up!

“Is there a fan-base in the Big-12 that has any class?”

    Yes. One!

But seriously… I’ve always respected the OU fan base.

  • You know all things considered - - -18 turnovers and all, which a lot of those turnovers, just silly turnovers - - were unforced. - - -BUT having said that, maybe it was just me, BUT last night at no point in that game did I feel we were in jeopardy of losing that game. - -Sure it was close, but we came out and just looked to me like even with the turnovers and when Iowa St would slice the lead, at no time did I see any kind of panic - -frustration in the boys. - -Iowa State had NO Answer for Landen inside. - - True Landen was Landen missing some point blank, but when doesn’t he? - -Can you imagine what he would have scored if he was a tinsy more mobile, better hand codrination. - - I’m serious he could of scored at will.

Like I said yesterday, yes Iowa St gave us some match up problems BUT we gave them match up problems on our end also. - - This is very quickly becoming a THREE team race for the championship KU, Baylor, & West Virginia - -the others are fading and fading fast. K-State 3 losses - - - Iowa State 3 losses - - Texas Tech 3 losses - -I know 3 losses isn’t putting you out of contention but these schools got LOTS of pressure to contend now.

We are now a 1/3 of the way through conference, haven’t been playing our best and STILL 6-0. True I think it’s a combination of things - - we may not be quite as good, BUT I think this league had a lot of pretenders this season, and come conference their true colors are being exposed. - - - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Is it because they don’t take Basketball that serious anyway?

I would agree the OU bunch seem to be respectable and their coach is nothing but a class act.

It seems that the fan-bases like KSU & ISU that try and compete with us have to steep real low to do so. Oh KU’s home court is so great, we better pep up ours to be the same. KSU chanting F KU at a non KU game is just classless crap. Are these people childs?

Hilton Magic trying so hard with 12,000 glow sticks to make the place something more than it is. Don’t get me wrong ISU has a great home court when the team is good but when you expose the team as having flaws the fan-base cracks right with them. Truly sad what KU’s success has spread across the conference

  • @BeddieKU23 You always have to remember – - SUCESS brings envy - - Hence Iowa St & K-State -B.S. - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @jayballer54

ISU was pressuring. They are even smaller than us so they have to. They actually aren’t atrocious defensively, if you look at advanced stats. Absolutely need to tighten it up for WVU though.

  • @BShark at the risk of being called an “anti”, i agree. we saw nothing last night to compare what they will do. yes it was a great win!!! but we have to set our goals high and don’t stop till we get there. and that means we do our job-passing-defense-ft’s-decision making-shot selections. we can celebrate today, but tomorrow still comes and we need to be prepared. Rock Chalk

  • @BShark cat left? Or are you really bob?

  • @autohawk pretty sure we all agree. I get pretty nervous when Svi is bringing up the ball.😳🏀🏀🏀

  • @Crimsonorblue22

Oh man that play last night. Hair pulling moment.

  • @BShark

They also jump passing lanes, Morris has always been savvy in this regard. A lot of turnovers were just careless and out of character. One of them games I suppose. Turnovers were the leaky wheel last night. Usually its something else like post defense, FT shooting, we seem to have a bag of bad tricks sometimes

  • Would anybody, besides me😳 Think there’s a chance Josh might come back?🤔

I just like changing it up from time to time. I miss Bob.

Fortunately ISU doesn’t have any post players to exploit our post defense.

  • @BShark

Fortunately for KU, they did a pretty good job of exploiting ISU’s post defense.

The trade-off’s we see from game to game have worked out pretty well since game 1

  • @BeddieKU23

I have over 50 years of experience with OU fans. Starting as a child, I became an OU football fan because some of my family is OU and alumni. So I would go to at least 1 football game every year down in Norman. Had some amazing tailgating and was always totally respected and treated well. Got to know lots of OU fans and every one of them was a class act.

In comparison… I’ve had nothing but bad luck in Manhattan and Columbia. I know there are decent fans with these teams, but I have seen plenty of bad fan behavior in these places.

And then there is Texas… personally, I’ve never had a problem with Texas fans, but I understand them. I’m okay with their insane level of pride. I bet if I drove to a Kansas game in Austin and had a flat tire I bet Texas fans would lend a hand. If that happened to me in Columbia, I’d have to fight my way out of there and hard to say what would happen in Manhattan.

  • @drgnslayr

One of my good friends is a die-hard Texas fan. Neither sport has given him much joy of late. He thought Shaka was a home-run and I had to use the Lee Corso line “not so fast”.

Besides his usual banter of “this is the year KU will lose” he’s pretty good about things.

I can’t imagine knowing a Missouri or KSU fan. I can’t imagine any realm in which we’d get along.

  • @BeddieKU23

One of my cousins is married to a KSU grad. He is a big shot attorney and a quality guy. I don’t poke him about basketball and he doesn’t poke me about football. We have an unspoken truce.

He is very careful about his image and how he looks (and he should, considering his profession)… but I see the frustration in his micro-expressions. Never told him that because maybe we play poker some day…

  • KSU fans have a very high opinion of themselves and their program in my experience. Nothing wrong with that if you have a little humility and respect- they don’t. Nor do they have any thing to brag about. The good thing about these fans is they are just people when taken away from sports, but no good conversation about sports will occur.

I just spent a few days stuck in Manhattan in a conference full of KSU pussies. The KU jokes a few of the presenters gave all fell flat even with this audience. Now those are tired jokes and they cost them a tens of thousands of dolllars in my recommendations, because if the competetor has an equal product guess what I’m using?!?

  • @dylans

I think they have come to grips with the current status of their basketball program mostly. Football though hoo boy you’d think they were Bama…
