Lucas wearing a boot

  • @BeddieKU23

When you see a big man in a boot, most likely we are talking about a situation that is not temporary. Perhaps he can go without the boot later on, etc., but the mechanics of his leg/foot situation remain the same indefinitely.

Problem is… Landen, like every KU player, wants a career playing ball in another year. If he keeps the boot, or even if he doesn’t but has his minutes limited… it is probable that his injury or injury prevention ends up on the warning sign of every pro scout.

Most likely, Landen’s career will be happening abroad, but how well he does here trying to make the NBA will impact his value abroad.

  • @BeddieKU23

it appears there are 3 member of the team wearing walking boots; maybe they got a good deal on them and they are just trying them out. LOL.

  • Et al,

No one seriously believes what Self says about injuries anymore, do they? All talk is strategic. Especially before two must keep the score close games for RPI end of season Carney, er, tourney engineering, er, seeding kinds of opponents?

No one wears a boot to prevent a stress fracture unless they have symptoms and history suggesting reason for concern. Period.

So: at the very least Big Luke is symptomatic.

Next, there is that weird category called stress reaction (?) that is between well and stress Fx that they boot up for; that appears what this likely is. But Self apparently wants to call it a sore foot to make them prepare for Luke. Good for Bill!!

Next, Self appears to tend to make opponents prepare for rotation players, even if he intends to use them sparingly, or not at all.

Inference: Luke is injured. He’s going to play injured. It will likely get worse.

Self will likely play him to shorten the game against a top opponent, especially since Bragg is in a “funk” (injury?), Doke fouls, Coleby’s knee still looks like Pinhead in Hellraiser, and Lightfoot is a sapling…

No mystery here. No conspiracy theory either!

  • @drgnslayr

Don’t EVER feel self doubt about being a conspiracy theorist.

The reputed FOIA release of CIA document 1035-960 put all that nonsense to rest. The CIA REPUTEDLY WEAPONIZED AND SEWED THE SPREAD OF THE TERM “CONSPIRACY THEORY” for Intel assets in government and media, as the term of art for discrediting reaonable inferences about actual activities.

It’s okay to think again. 😄

  • @jaybate-1.0 I’m not a conspiracy theorist - I am a conspiracy realist.

It’s probably why he didn’t play much in the 2nd exhibition game. I believe he only played 15 minutes.

If he plays and makes the injury worse, this is on Self for not doing the right thing. Landen is too important to worry about 2 games. We have to believe everyone could step up in his absence.

Maybe I’m assuming too much but anytime a kid is walking around in a boot its more then just a pre-caution and Self downplaying the injury is what coaches do

Agree. These games are not that important.

  • I still don’t understand why you would have Lucas play in spite of the injury. Give him some time off to get better, like a month, so he can be fine by March. Our chances of going to the final four take a serious blow without him. Maybe its just me thinking this way.

Definitely not just you. This team needs Lucas, he is an important piece of the puzzle.

  • @BShark

They aren’t as important as March which is why I think you side with caution and don’t stress his leg further right now. Imagine how valuable the minutes Udoka & Bragg would have without him as far as those 2 becoming key guys further on in the season. With how Self likes to play his players he trusts in big games, it would seem Lucas will get big minutes which scares me.

I think we can all agree we’d rather have a healthy Lucas with no lingering issues to be concerned about then a hobbled man throughout this season. Injuries are the biggest concern to this teams potential

  • We are making a lot of assumptions without having actual facts. Shouldn’t we trust that Coach Self and the training staff know what they are doing? After all, he has a much larger vested interest in the health of the team than we do, right?

  • @JayHawkFanToo

Sure but isn’t it at the least a little bit concerning that Lucas is walking around in a boot and Mason was nursing a sore thumb before our first game. And we only have 10 eligible players. I just hope whatever pre-caution this is, doesn’t become anything more then that

  • @BeddieKU23 I agree we will need them come march, we have all seen these foot injuries be a pain in the ass from Sherron, Reed and selby.

  • @BeddieKU23

There are 3 members of the team wearing walking boots. It could well be something new they are trying even for very simple and temporary injuries…I don’t know, just surprised to see 3 of them wearing the walking boot.

  • @JayHawkFanToo which three? I haven’t seen anyone wearing them in the pictures other than Landon

  • @HawkChamp

Look at the Indiana thread, @Crimsonorblue22 spotted two and I found a third one,

  • Self said Lucas (sore foot) will be able to play on Friday and start. And he said Bragg would start. Bragg didn’t start 2nd exhibition

  • @BeddieKU23 sure hope Landon is ok and Bill is not forcing him to play…

  • @HawkChamp

I would think that the team doctor and trainers make the decision…and Coach Self just goes along with it. I seriously doubt Coach Self would override the team doctor and/or trainers if they determine he should not play. After the Embiid fiasco, I would think they are ubber cautious.

  • He’s most likely going to be in the lineup on Friday

  • @JayHawkFanToo

“We are making a lot of assumptions without having actual facts.”

    Thanks for the reality check.

I think I’m guilty of having conspiracy withdrawals since the election is over.

  • @jaybate-1.0 Kind of torn here in the Bill Self downsplaining. Boot to me means probable injury. However, I recognize the need to do some stuff (ice, wraps, wear shoes all the time) once in a while to prevent aggravating my own heels, knees, shins, etc., so I’m going to go with “preventative,” until Lucas doesn’t play at all for a game.

  • @KUSTEVE

I suppose that is the sort of distinction that drove the author of reputed CIA DOCUMENT 1035-960 to select “conspiracy theorist.”

Imagine an Intel plant working as a network talking head scoffing and saying persons that doubt Oswald did it are “conspiracy realists!” 😄

    It’s more respectful than smearing.

In my case I am a “conspiracy factualist,” when the conspiracy is proven and I try to be a “conspiracy neutral,” who looks for all non conspiratorial explanations and leaves the heavy lifting of conspiracy to those with authority and/or budgets required to run down conspiracies. I do feel that exhausting all non conspiracy explanations can imply some possibility of conspiracy.

Regardless, it’s good to return conspiracy and.conspiracy theory to ranks of respectable discourse. Thank you FOIA!

  • @DanR

    Imminently fair and reasonable.

I would only recall the many players, like Tyrel Reed, that have played operable without missing a game.

  • @BShark

Keeping it close is all that is crucial. A big blow out by a top team hurts your RPI I thought, but maybe I’m wrong?

  • @HawkChamp

Just a guess, but these stress fx and reactions often seem to go on for 6 months or more. The temptation would be to play him now against Duke and IU to get a Split, then let the rest start, since it could take 6 months regardless.

  • @justanotherfan So true. My “just nicked up” declaration was posted with tongue in cheek.

  • @jaybate-1.0 PHOF!!! That is a great read to start the morning…TY…
