  One of the problems with this whole thread has been assuming the examples given are normal individuals. The players on the 353UrbanVoice were selfish, sick, and stupid, with no self-control. One had 8 kids by 8 different women. There were also problems with gambling, drugs, alcoholism, greed, and a need to impress others. Those are not traits that a college education is going to correct. They are not normal people in any way. Sadly, it is reflecting our society more and more.

  I will guess that if the parent(s) has some marketable skills, he/she can be offered a position without raising red flags withe the NCAA. However, if the parent(s? has no marketable skills, it would raise all kinds of red flags id he/she is offered a position other than a minimum wage position. Some will take any position, such as Cole Aldrich father (a sheet metal worker) that worked as welder and janitor while living in Lawrence, some others prefer not to take menial jobs and just bide their time waiting for the kid’s big payday; not a good thing IMHO. Some as Angel Morris move to town, get a job and become the adopted mother for many players. She was truly a blessing for the team, particularly TRob ,who lost his mom and she was there for him.

  @icthawkfan316 The Maloofs no longer own the Kings. The team was sold in May, 2013 to Silicon Valley entrepreneur Vivek Ranadivé, who promptly installed a new management team; McLemore was the first player select by the new management team and as such, they have a vested interest in his success…

I know this is a college board, but I think that one pretty well sums up the difference between the NBA and college. @741hawk I didn’t see the lottery occur, but if you ascribe to conspiracy theories for anything that you did not (or cannot) view live then the world is just one huge spinning conspiracy.

  @bskeet Cleveland would be a good fit for Embiid and Phlly is not a bad place. Not too crazy about Milwaukee but I would not mind catching a couple of games just to check the owner’s daughter; she is pretty cute.

  Just had a thought … any possibility that the SM information might have influenced AW3 to transfer? I say that because I have always thought that the timing is odd. What changed since late March? Devonte Graham signed, but Tharpe also left. That’s a push regarding AW3’s playing time. The only thing that really changed in that time period, that we know of, is SM’s recruitment.

I want nothing but success for Connor.” I agree with your post… except that Conner is another Curry. Conner right now is only a catch-and-shoot shooter. He doesn’t create his own shot, his own scoring space like Curry did (and does). You are right on about him struggling with his size, feet and length. He can work hard and improve two of those categories… and that is enough to become a dominant college player. I totally expect to see a different guy next fall. I expect him to add 10 lbs of muscle between now and then. He’ll still be a small, thin guy… but when you add some strength onto a frame of a smart competitor (like Conner), he’ll make the most of his strength improvements. Conner showed noticeable improvement in his foot speed already in his freshman year. He couldn’t keep up with the game at the beginning… by the end, he was keeping up. Now… if he can learn to move ahead of the game, so he can create his own scoring space and also become a lock down defender, he’ll become one heck of a college player! The odds all work against Conner. So he’ll have to fight for everything he gets. That really isn’t a bad scenario for a tough, competitive player to be in. I’m not worried about Conner. He’s also a smart player. He’ll find a way to be productive and a way for him to inject his game into Jayhawk basketball and become a contributor.

  @ralster I bet the competition between AWIII and Greene was pretty close. The thing was, even though that competition may have been close, the competition between those guys and Wiggins/Selden was probably not that close. There are 80 wing minutes to go around. If Wiggins is getting 30 and Selden is getting 25, and Self has always shown that he will play 2 ball handlers together at least sometimes, that means 65 of those minutes are gone already and you have two guys battling for the 15 remaining minutes. AWIII was a close second in that battle last year. He’s seen the tape on Oubre. He’s played against Selden. He’s played against Greene. He knows he wasn’t on Wiggins’ level and probably won’t be on Oubre’s. He’s also behind Selden. That means its him and Greene again for that main backup role on the wing. He knows that if he comes in 2nd again this year, he’s back to playing 5mpg, which I am sure is not how he envisioned his college career playing out. Better to take your career on to another school with two years of eligibility than to redshirt at KU, then end up transferring and be in a position like Brady Heslip where you really only have a chance to play for three seasons.

  What I see, especially when comparing Self and Cal, KU vs UK… we are a big man school (because of Self’s offense) and UK isn’t weighted to big men or small men (because of Cal’s dribble-drive motion offense). Our big advantage doesn’t really become a huge advantage until the NBA ups the player entry age to 20. Then all the D1 top players become TADs. Then… Hudy becomes the big advantage for Kansas! Hudy is the difference maker between Self and Cal. But Hudy doesn’t make a huge difference in players until the summer between their freshman and sophomore years. Why? Because players only get a small taste of Hudy before their freshman fall year. Once basketball starts they back off the heavy weights. Players between their freshman and sophomore years have all of April right on through to November to pump big iron. Don’t believe it? Check out all our returning sophomores this fall (freshmen last year). Players like Conner will show a lot more strength. Once we know we have two years to develop the top elite players, we will smash Cal on the recruiting trail as long as we have Hudy. I hope she is well-paid and planning to stay at Kansas.
