  @Lulufulu Yes and no. Yes, he could have kicked butt…but he would have been playing likely the same position as Selden and that would have not been good. Self idea was to help the team get extra practice and More and Debose was all that was needed to replace the injured players and have 12 players suit up.

  @wrwlumpy That is really cool to see KU fans helping out a K state player in need. If I had the money to spare, I would certainly donate. I can send my warm thoughts to Will and his family though. I worked at KUMC for a total of 8 years and I can say with absolute certainty that KU Hospital is one of the best in the nation. They will absolutely take very good care of your wife and child Mr Spradling. Best wishes to you.

  @jaybate-1.0 But seriously, I think I know where you intended this to go. Self has a title and a bunch of B12 titles and has won 80+% of his games which could be described as “greatness.” But I believe you are describing something different. The start of a new better more superior dominant stacked greatness. Like winning multiple national championships over the next few years. I’d be happy with one title in the next decade but I’d prefer 3 or 4!!!

  @wrwlumpy I cannot think of another tournament, other than Summer AAU, where teams are required to play 8 games in 10 days…not the conferences, not the NIT and definitely not the NCAA. I don’t believe the even the NBA has that schedule during the playoffs since they have travel days off every couple of games.

  @Texas-Hawk-10 I think you putting a little to much stock in the WUG’s. What HCBS rolled out there as a starting five and a rotation is subject to change. There is still a lot of time before College Ball starts. The bright side is Bragg and Vick have already got a taste of what it’s like to play under the lights. Their not going to have that deer in the headlights look when they step out on the floor. I do see Vick sitting much of this year. He needs time with Hudy. Yet come next year now way this kid isn’t in the mix. As for Bragg? I know you can’t understand why I think Bragg could wind up going OAD. However look at last years rotation of big men. What has really changed? Now keep in mind our bigs and paint play was the Achilles heel of KU team last year. Ellis is still Ellis pretty much hit his ceiling. He could expand his outside shot. Either way he’s a lock Traylor is a great guy and HCBS loves the kid, but lets face it he’s just an energy guy that lacks the talent of any of the Bigs KU has. Hunter is interesting. I thought he showed flashes last year but for some reason HCBS just wouldn’t give him the playing time. I believe Hunter will start at first, he is a lock to be in the mix either way. Lucas sadly is what he is. Sometimes he looks like the perfect big man and others it’s like what? He’s out of the mix. Diallo and his talent alone land him the starting spot be for this years over. Not to mention the high ceiling he has. He’s a lock Bragg not sure why everybody wants to compare him Trob? I think their games are totally different. I can see the motor and toughness, but that’s as far as it goes. TRob would try to dunk on anything and every thing. I don’t see that in Bragg. Bragg can actually shoot and handle the ball. Not to mention if one can handle the ball there is an ability to pass the ball. I see Ellis, Hunter, Diallo, and Bragg as the minutes eaters. However with the short play clock. HCBS may change his approach to how many guys are in the mix. Bottom line it doesn’t make sense to keep a talent like Bragg on the bench. It does you no good. One Bragg is a better talent than all but maybe Ellis and Diallo. Two you sit a talent like Bragg and you may wind hurting not only your team come tournament time but also your ability to recruit players in the future. This isn’t the 70’s and 80’s where the upperclassmen always get the nod. (maybe it should be). Bragg will get his minutes. Then it’s all up to him after that. To tell you truth I’m hoping your right that he sticks around for a couple years. However anymore I just assume most of these kids are gone after one year.

  @Lulufulu What I really really liked about this game (one more “really” and it could be a “Self comment”)… was that Nick didn’t really (there is #3) have a good game, but he stepped up for the steal. He never gave up. Wayne shot something like 3 for 548, but he stepped up and hit the big shot at the end. Frank only had a few points until the end when he made clutch plays and baskets. Perry was cold, too, but kept working through it until his shot came back. If this had been last year, our guys would have rolled up the carpet and settled for the silver. There was no settling in this game, in this team. Spaghetti legs and all, our guys kept fighting back. They fought back until the game went long enough to tire out the Germans. We actually won like we won our other games, through attrition. That takes a ton of heart! I can’t wait until this coming season!

  @drgnslayr well put, Mari has looked to me to be upset with his role in these games (or lack of). But his play besides 1 game I believe has been uninspiring. He turned the ball over twice when he had scoring opportunities on offense in the last game. One travel & dropped fast break pass from Vick. Rebounding which everyone including Self has mentioned has not improved. If the Season started today, you’d couldn’t reasonably make a case for him being any higher than our 6th big. Which with Diallo & Bragg in, and an improved Hunter it was already going to be hard for him to be relied upon in the same capacity as the past 2 years. It’s nice to know that if times get tough (injury to another big/ foul trouble/ small ball) that Mari can be used. Hopefully he uses the rest of the summer after today’s game to continue to work on his game.

  @JayHawkFanToo I agree with you. He wont make them go through a full 2 weeks of boot camp. It’ll be altered just to keep them in shape and give them a bit more bonding time. They have excellent conditioning right now and excellent chemistry right now. Just got to keep the ship moving after the WUGs
