  @jaybate-1.0 Civil War historians essentially never explain that the Civil War was fundamentally a battle for which private oligarchy, the North or the South, would get to control the trade routes through the Western Hemisphere, by building the transcontinental railroad and telegraph, in order to then build the interocean canal in Tehuantepec, Mexico, or Nicaragua, or Panama. Civil War historians also rarely put into realistic perspective that the US Civil War was just one of two huge wars going on in North America simultaneously and for inter connected reasons. The other was the European four power invasion of Mexico. The US Civil War can only be comprehended usefully in conjunction with the European invasion of Mexico. Great Britain was financing and enabling both wars in the early years of both wars in pursuit of a trade route agenda. Simply adding (not revising) what historians leave out always brings puzzling historical events into sharp clarity.

  If anyone really cares about the Conference of Champions. I googled it and it turns out to be a nickname the Pac 12 gave to itself. Nicknamed the “Conference of Champions,” the Pac-12 has won more NCAA National Team Championships than any other conference in history; the three schools with the most NCAA team championships belong to the Pac-12 (UCLA, Stanford, and USC, in that order).   @HawkChamp You have been saying that and I totally agree. We may not need those wins to win the Big 12 (or maybe we will), but we need to be able to execute in super high pressure situations, and that is what Morgantown provides us. I am very thankful we have Huggy in our league. The win in Okie State represents a game we may not need in conference play (maybe) and for whatever reason is a venue we historically don’t do well in. Winning a game under those conditions tells me our guys hate to lose anywhere. It tells me they don’t need a whipping stick just to get motivated… they are self-motivated not “self”-motivated! If Bill has to prod them to motivate them in March… we are toast.

  @blackmild33 I have not been impressed with ESPN’s credibility since they decided 7 pm (6, Central time) basketball games on Big Monday only take 1 hr 45 min to complete, so we always miss the beginning–and more, if OT. Football? Only 3 hrs, scheduled, come hell or high water or timeouts. It has changed me into someone wanting blowouts, which sort of ruins watching non-KU games as a general bb fan.

  Texas has more losses than the top 6 teams in the Conference…combined. Between Texas and Oklahoma, they have more loses than the other 8 teams in the conference…combined. Oklahoma lost great players but I expected them to be better. Texas has been a huge disappointment; they were supposed to be KU’s top competition and now they sit with a 6-6 record and some really bad loses to the likes of UT-Arlington and Kent State.

  @drgnslayr I have not heard that one but he did have a good story about Bill Walton that he changed over the years… I’ve always enjoyed Bill Walton. He’s his own man. You’ve probably heard this story but one time he told me he wasn’t going to get a haircut. He told me I didn’t have the right to make him get a haircut. I said, "No, I don’t, Bill. I just have the right to determine who is going to play — and we’re going to miss you." and… One day, All-America center Bill Walton showed up with a full beard. “It’s my right,” he insisted. Wooden asked if he believed that strongly. Walton said he did. “That’s good, Bill,” Coach said. “I admire people who have strong beliefs and stick by them, I really do. We’re going to miss you.” Walton shaved it right then and there. Now Walton calls once a week to tell Coach he loves him. I am not sure which one is the true one…

  @jayballer54 My point was that if you are going to other boards, go to the ones with a higher BBall IQ where you can maybe learn something new and have educated discussions. From what you posted, it sounds like every time you go there you lose a few IQ points yourself…so my question, why? I would personally would not waste my time, but that is just me… to each his own.It’s all good.

  @mayjay I understand Coach Knight cannot go to Puerto Rico. Last I heard the criminal charges against him were never dropped and they are still active unless some statue of limitations kicked-in in the last couple of years.

  I have often struggled with this issue of the NCAA. It’s creation was to maintain a fair and balanced playing level. It was to protect the integrity of the student athlete. In theory it was a great idea. The problem I see with the NCAA is that it’s controlled by to many Alums that have connections to their school and the conferences they play in. In many ways it’s to much like our own federal government. To many cats running around more concerned about filling their pockets with cash and protecting the perception of their image. Another grave problem is they make their money off College Basketball. That money comes in at the tune of billions of dollars. Who said College Basketball isn’t a money maker? Well its hard to be fair and blanced when you’re decisions could affect not only the money pie, but upset the apple cart all together. Ever wonder why it takes the NCAA so long to react or find a conclusion, a verdict? Notice how a lot of schools impose self bans, by passing the NCAA all together? This UNC scandal is an open and close case. UNC broke the cardinal rule of the student athlete. It’s just mind numbing this case has dragged out this long. How many investigations do we need? Hell people in the know are writing books about what took place at UNC. The NCAA is toothless, and contrary to popular belief it has no power. It’s time it goes to the wayside. At the very least give back all the money it makes off college basketball. Then we can at least start mentioning the college basketball power houses in the same breath as Alabama and the Texas’s of the college world. I would say just my two cents, but I’m broke.
