Bracket chat

  • I think we need more than a reasonably healthy Hunter to beat Samford. We might even be better without Hunter since he can’t guard the trey line. That is… if they come out with ice in their veins. If they do, we need players like Elmarko, Nick, and Furph to come ready to play defense and guard the trey line. No more floating around in “no man’s land” pretending to play help defense. Juan needs to disrupt and get some steals for easy runouts. Kevin? I expect he will play regardless of how he feels because he needs to closeout his college days on a positive note. KJ? Here is another game built perfect for him to dominate, but will he?

Two things we have to focus on to win… First, win the possession battle. We should be able to win the boards if Hunter plays or not. Then its about turnovers. We need to protect the ball while swiping balls from this team known to be turnover-prone. Then turn those turnovers into runouts. Second, guard the trey line… all the way through the 30-second clock. These guys aren’t used to playing at our level. Guard hard and watch their trey line % drop!

If we come with energy and effort, we should smash Samford.

IMO there is nothing elite about this team. I’m leaving my crimson and blue goggles off for this one.

Before the injuries, this team was elite at passing and pretty good at 2 pt FG%. If they can get back to that and get just average from 3, there could be something brewing. I’m not expecting much, but prefer to have a little hope so I’m not rage watching the tournament.

  • How many charges will the Hawks get called for? I’m setting the over/under at 5.

How many senseless turnovers will they have trying to play backyard ball? I’m setting the over/under at 8.

How many fouls on three point shots will the Hawks have? I’m setting the over/under at 3.

    Place your bets.

  • @drgnslayr I personally like when everyone picks us to lose less pressure and as you say creates a chip. Will be interesting with Kevin, still hearing it is all mental and there zero wrong with his knee at this point. If he can’t lead us to at least a second weekend. I don’t see anyone drafting him in the first round.

  • One thing about our bracket that makes it hard to predict is there are a few schools and coaches that have historically underachieved in the NCAA Tournament. Purdue, Tennessee, and Texas have all historically been upset prone. We could definitely throw KU into that mix as well as Gonzaga.

  • The guys should be able to play a little more free this year, I mean no one is thinking we stand a snowballs chance in hell to do squat - -Greenburg leading the charge on that wagon - -all kinds of shade.

So pressure on THE OTHER TEAMS- -our guys just go out and play – we win - -we win and advance and if not -well no surprise then right. – Hell ya carry that chip – make it a big one

  • @jayballer67 That was the belief about the Big 12 tournament as well and KU shit the bed when they had no pressure on them.

  • Most think we won’t be healthy. Will we? Is Kevin worried about the draft? Embiid again?

That is a couple of big IFs given the past month. But, Purdue did beat Samford by 50 in the first game of the season, so if we play anything close to our capability, this really should be a close game. Another big IF…

  • Bill Selfs has announced Kevin will not play again for Kansas. Very spineless move by McCullar and his camp. Will not consider him a Jayhawk moving forward.

  • That is too bad. If his mind is not in it, though, I would prefer that he not play.

  • @patoh3 true, I just think it is a chicken sh** move all around. He don’t get picked first round for sure now and maybe not all.

  • @kjayhawks said in Bracket chat:

Yeah he was projected outside of the first round in vecenie’s most recent mock. Really don’t get the concerns from mccullar’s camp regarding his stock. He’s been in college for 6 years his swing skill is the shot either he proves it in work outs or he doesn’t

  • @rcjhdraft Yep if played a game or two and did well he could’ve boosted his stock. Look at the draft right now, players will have a break in this tournament and be drafted. He’s just too weak mentally and physically to play.

  • We were told he couldn’t hurt it and he wasn’t having pain.

  • Kev is out for the tourney. We’re done.

  • It’s whatever. It would feel worse if this team was expected to do anything in the tournament

  • We beat Baylor w/out him.

  • I’ve been a KU fan(atic) probably for longer than most of you have been on the planet.

This is the weirdest, most frustrating season I’ve ever experienced. I just don’t give a crap anymore. Since the game starts at 9:00 CST (if it starts on time) I may watch 30 minutes. 5:30 am still comes early.

If we lose, better luck next year. If we make it to the championship game (we won’t) I’ll probably only watch it if the game doesn’t start too late.

The one year players, the portal, the NIL, it’s all added up to I just don’t care anymore.

This is from a guy who taped (VHS) games and rewatched them about 10 times back in the day.

Self’s statement kind of makes it sound like Kevin’s camp shut it down…

  • This situation sucks. His comment “I haven’t seen Kev” on Sunday takes on new meaning.

    I’ll see myself out

Yep I’m gonna sit down with a beer or two and try to move on

  • So many are so upset about someone they think quit on the team that they are jumping in to join the crowd totally quitting on him.

This is why I don’t play here much. The attacks last year on McCormick were unforgivable…but oh, wow, he’s great. Now going after Dujuan and McCullar as if they seduced your sisters.

I am done. Y’all just don’t know what being a fan means.

  • Reminds me of something Grandpa Joe would do……

Kevins daddy shut it down, have zero idea why at this point. He didn’t want him to come back after he originally tweaked because didn’t want to hurt draft stock. He not NBA caliber regardless the truth be told.

doesn’t matter now with McCullar OUT

The middle aged dudes with low T dogging on guys who can’t rent a car for cheap yet is always the worst part of college sports

  • @mayjay the dude quit on his teammates and brothers after we allowed him to return. He’s been he worst Jayhawk in recent memory. If you find a fan base that likes losing and garbage like this let me know.

  • Just don’t lose to Samford amd keep our longest in the country streak of winning a first round game alive and I’ll be fine with whatever else happens this tournament.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10 maybe Nick will be more comfortable against a mid major…

  • I think we still beat Samford. If Nick played for them we’d all be freaking out 😂

  • @FarmerJayhawk hahaha this is why I enjoy you buddy

  • Oh, I still think we can win a couple games, if Hunter plays. But highly unlikely to get to the FF without Kev.

Got us some good wins, and I enjoyed watching him play when he was able, especially D. Always said the right things in the postgame interviews. Never really felt like he was 100% Jayhawk, but that’s just me though. Good luck to the guy.

lol fricken Seth Davis said oh ya he had Samford before the McCullar news and now loves his Samford pick-- - -oh I would love to click my heels together and take it to these P - - - - -

  • Is kubuckets going to do a bracket challenge? Seems sort of anticlimactic, but we’re still in the tourney!

  • If you all haven’t read the ESPN feature on Caitlin Clark, take a few minutes and do. It’s incredibly well done. https://www.espn.com/womens-college-basketball/story/_/id/39740282/caitlin-clark-iowa-2024-ncaa-women-basketball-tournament-ready-march

This is the year my bracket does well, for sure.

  • @FarmerJayhawk I only read the first 40 paragraphs. Should I continue? I’ve always been a fan of hers, but this is making me reconsider things.

  • @BShark Lol. I think I have a very very similar final four and outcome on one of my brackets. Wow.

That would NOT surprise me at all.

  • Just got through listening to Coach 's press conference and things that was said, and from what I’m getting from this he said : Samford presses everywhere, very seldom do you see a team press on FG misses ful court, press on missed free throws, they press every where.

Coach said they have 10 players that average at least 10 minutes a game, and they will play 12 players, they aren’t worried about what the score is, they want to see how many possessions they can get. Coach said they make you go and make plays. Saying they press everywhere and by the time you get set you probably going to be down to like 15 second and you aren’t going to be able to have time to run your play - -That’s where it comes they make you go make plays.

Themm pressing everywhere makes me cringe with Timberlake & El Marko making wild passes- -ove guys heads , – behind guys- - - passes where no one is there, - - passes at their feet Lord help us.

First question asked was about limitations on Dickinson was there any - -Self absolutely zero, Hunter is completely good to go, saying they was worried about if he tried for monster jam and hang on rim Coach said nope - - no limitations , that Hunter had been doing really good.

Coach said that kind of strange but that this is a year actually with everybody being on Ku and talking about our struggles - -he said actually this ought to be a year when we are the one with A CHIP ON OUR SHOULDER - -hell ya we should - - let it fly.

  • @bskeet It will probably end up way off but who knows really. Last year was quite chaotic, aside from UConn.

  • @DanR said in Bracket chat:

A big key is for us to defend tight and force TOs. This is a team that TOs a ton. If we do that, we will have plenty of easy runouts and they won’t be able to press. Also… without Kevin we don’t have enough scoring on the floor. TOs and runouts is our easy path to victory… anything else will probably be a dog fight and our chances reduced.

One thing… we will be fresh! I like our chances!

I still like our chances too my friend , I am being honest at this point though I’m not expecting anything after, but man would be sweet for tonight cause there is NO ONE in National media gives us a snow ball’s chance tonight - -especially Seth Davis & Greenburg, saying all the money is on Samford. - -Let’s roll the ball out and LET’s PLAY. like Coach said THIS ought to be the year we step on the floor and be the one with THAT CHIP on the shoulder -w have nothing to lose right ? I men no one is expecting us to win ----Soooo play and see whz up. - -ROCK CHAK
