KU Welcomes Flory Bidunga

Great news and thanks to Flory Bidunga for picking KU. His background is so similar to Joel’s that I imagine we will hear a lot of the similarities mentioned in the coming seasons. Way to go Coach Self and staff. RC

Imagine if he reached Joel’s height!

Embiid isn’t the comp with Flory. He’s going to be much more similar Doke or Chieck Diallo as far as skill set goes.

Ya I myself was thinking of Doke. - -maybe a little faster down the floor. - -little better shot , short baseline range jumper

The smilarities to JJ I had in mind were more about his youth sport being soccer, not basketball and when both came to the US, they were just being introduced to basketball; just starting to learn the game. We’ll have to wait and see if Flory also had to fight a lion in his village.

As it’s pretty much a given these days for a top 10 kid nationally to turn pro ASAP I’m not all that excited about this. If he decides to hang around you know and actually be a college student and player, then great, but our OAD kids have never given us any real success.

NIL is a game changer for bigs like Flory sticking around and developing. We don’t get Hunter otherwise imo. We’ll see if Flory decides to unpack the bags but I would say it’s more of a possibility then it used to be.
I see no way Flory leaves for the NBA without a bunch of development & expanding his skillset. Could be 1-2 years or potentially a situation you get 3-4 years out of him. He’s unlikely to be desirable if he’s a 6’8 College Center at the next level. Will be interesting to see when there are official measurements for him because those will be important. If he’s 6’10 with the 7+ wingspan then that does change things potentially on his timeline here.

@BeddieKU23 But those top 10 guys go pro ASAP NIL or not it seems.
-
I read an article where it said Flory’s est NIL is 500 thousand
-
Wing span!🥳
-
Blocking shots may be my favorite part of basketball.

@approxinfinity Give me Jeff Whitey

I was curious so I looked it up and would agree, top 10-20ish bigs do leave a majority of the time. Last year gives me some hope, as Filipowski and Ke’el Ware both were top 10 guys and returned or transferred to a new school. Adem Bona also returned to UCLA #17 and I think Flory compares to him a bit. NIL is a factor now at least and has impacted some decisions. Having dived into it I would certainly agree it’s unlikely we will get to know Flory that long

Read where Flory calls Bill kinda a smart ass off the Court but in a good way. —I bet Bill keeps that tucked in his pocket lmao
