I get the natives are getting restless with recent Calamari results but literally 100 headlines I’ve seen since last fall about Sharpe going to Kentucky early and then going Pro. And he did exactly what he said he was going to do… Hard to get mad about a player who never even put on the Jersey but I guess that’s what they do

That is Mattress Mack, the guy who bet millions on KU winning the title. He owns a furniture store here and ran a promotion where if someone bought a $3000 or more mattress and KU won, you got it for free. He invited Self to Houston to meet the people who got free mattresses because of the promotion.

Hes planning his next promotion for the Kentucky Derby. He will bet 3 million on the race favorite. Did it last yr and didn’t win but it caused a big stir

No connection to KU. He just runs promotions like that several times a year and places huge bets as way to recoup money if the outcome results in a lot people getting free furniture. He’s been doing this for years now, but Gaines national attention in 2017 when the Astros won their first World Series and he had to go to multiple sports books to bet millions on the Astros because of how much money was going to lose in giving away free furniture.

wouldn’t you think thats kind of a wasted year - - I mean we are approaching the halfway point. - -By the time he gets adjusted to the offensive & Defensive schemes - -at least chances are what 3-4 games - - comfortably anyways. - -just seems like a wasted year

Think he was ending up in his original class. He has played in almost every game this year and is a role player for them right now. He’s going to be good in time I think. Might end up somewhere else down the road too

Just rewatched highlights of this class coming in. I cannot wait to add 3 dudes who can play above the rim… McDowell has a lot of Vick in him. I do think Johnson is going to struggle to score naturally. But Elmarko could be 18 ppg as a freshman so effortlessly. Has the handles and athleticism to dominate at the college level.

Here’s my early views of each.
Elmarko- reminds me of Dotson in scoring aggression in the paint, overall speed, quickness, athleticism at the position. Better shooter then Dot at same stage. 2 years tops likely…
Johnson- Not projecting his career here until we learn how he meshes with being coached by Self. I think that’s a big one tbd. NBA talent is there. If he matures watch out.
McDowell- He’ll play early. I think he’s a dude and he’ll be moldable into a Self guy on both ends. Could be here the longest but could also develop into a star. Really interested to see his progression.
