My wife watched me as I watched the last 4 minutes of the game. Now I’m in time out.

RE: Sams club game chat
Samford played their average game which is forcing 17 turnovers, scoring 86 points per game and making over 10 three pointers at 40+ %. We on the other hand made a few more turnovers than average, hit about twice as many treys as usual and scored almost 20 points more than our average for the last half of the season. We shoot lousy from deep and make risky passes that are our SOP. The flagrant technical was a deliberate attack on Hunter’s injured shoulder and when Hunter missed both free throws the guy celebrated like an a##hole.

RE: Tracking the Outgoing KU transfers
Tough time for young Mr. Adams. Always miss my mom. Share croppers daughter from the now defunct Galia community about 70 mi straight south of Lawrence. Missouri Educator of the year circa 1980. Special Ed teacher and leader from the start of Title One. Bachelor degree from KSTC Pittsburg and Masters and Education Specialis degrees from Emporia State. All the while raising four boys and three girls. Kansas girls are the best. Sweet sweet mom. Her first teaching job was in Oakley Kansas about 1940.

RE: Basketball Season
I know I had mentioned my grandnephew an AA RB out of SDSU. He made the Jets final 53 man roster as the #3 rb and is one of the two deep return guys on kickoffs. Also he is on kickoff coverage every time. #32.

RE: Zach SZN Game Thread
Just finished watching the game. Dominated the first half and also outscored them in the second. Giving WV some props for getting within 14 pts. Some observations: In the paint we went 20 for 29 including 9 straight made at one point. Dave seemed to move very well and the team looked rested and quick. JWill is always guarding forwards and did a good job today all around. Och was getting open against the most stingy D in the conference. Dajuan is a big asset on both ends of the floor. CB had a winning double double and his defense was Self swarming. Yesfu is so quick and springy and when he gets it under control will be awesome. JCL is a walking trey with a quick release and he can move also. Again we saw how good KJ is with defense and passing and and look out! Zach does some lunch pail work on D and that reverse layup was stunning.
Loved this game and team today.

RE: Let the slobberfest begin
Another observation about tomorrow. Thanks for the idea nwhawkfan.
The “experts” think Kansas can win it all and one article titled something like anonymous observations from opposing coaches said that KU is as talented as any team this year. Then one coach said we have seen Kansas win 32 games by playing really well during parts of games but we have not seen Kansas play a complete game at their best. Truth and we have seen the same thing about the team. We come out flat and trail at the half making it harder to win or we come out blazing and get to 20 points very quickly and then go five minutes scoreless. We let some teams hang with us as a result. The bottom line was if KU plays at their best for an entire game we will beat them all.

RE: 2021-22 PER's & Stats
Hubert Davis said he was told KU was hard to defend because you can defend some but you need to stop them all and that’s not gonna happen. Self thought five minutes into the second half there was no way we could defend like this for the rest of the game but we did. I think it was Barkley who said Kansas was the only team who could have won like we did because every player hit big shots. Jalen, Remy, Och, Christian and Dave just took turns keeping us in it until it was all over. Juan and Och had 5 TO’s and everyone else three total but Juan had three steals and Och had one. NC got numerous second or third chance shots but were guarded and blocked just enough to limit their success. Bacot and Davis had six offensive rebounds each but were just a combined 8 out of 30 from the floor. We won this puppy because we were clearly the better team and came up clutch over and over. We gave them a huge gift and then took it back.

RE: KU vs Oklahoma St Game Chat
Well the BPI shows our final conference record 9 wins and 8 losses. 2.6% chance of winning the conference. Whew, the pressure is off thank goodness and we can play loose and chuck up treys like carpet bombing.

RE: Keeping track of the ever changing 24-25 roster
Another post about my grand nephew he was just selected by the Jets in the 5th round. 6’1" 220 rb. Isaiah Davis. Hope he makes it good.

Did anyone else leave yesterday’s game with a boosted level of appreciation for Dajuan’s play?

RE: Baylor Game Thread
I enjoy the moment but always think about how good are we really. We pick apart everyone which leads to thinking how we want it to be instead of facing reality.
I’m solid with JWill and Dajuan. Dajuan hasn’t exploded but he’s better and better. JWill is a baller and suspect passer but so are the rest in that regard. I never know what to expect from The Dave and The Mitch game to game so F***.Och was getting POY reviews but currently that seems a little much although since the Reverend Mr. Braun (apologies to the Kingston Trio) was hot and then swooned and is coming around to what he was then maybe Och will score 20 plus every game again. They are mostly, and have to be, our rocks.
We are going to beat some good teams in the post season or at least we should. Whatever that means.
I am very concerned about our pinball handling of the ball. It’s like WTF guys just grab it already. And let us not forget our fear of making shots from three feet on in.
Overall we are progressing but it is not a smooth progression.

RE: Dook Game Thread
Watched the game at midnight. Holy cow don’t know where to start.
We have guys who really know the game and can flat out ball. McCullers was so valuable. KJ what can you say other than he is one tough ass playerand put the ball in the hole. Udeh and Zuby made their mark in a big way. We have depth!!
DuJuan was better than any Duke guard on both ends, great game! Grady is a freak!! Highlight reel plays and Jay Bilas will realize that he is a terror on defense too. This was J Will’s best game I think. All American stuff. What can ya say? The whole team was focused and poised. So Impressive.
Duke played like punks and the refs made them pay. You could see the plan was to rough our guys up and beat us down with their length and depth. That last foul on J Will made my blood boil. But who was tougher? Yeah eff you Dook.

RE: Over Under
Watched the N/C game again. We have lost so much from that team. No Dave or Mitch. No Remy for certain. We can get closer to replacing Braun and Och than replacing Dave and Mitch. A better JWill and Juan, a gem in McCullar and a surprising Joe and both can score from deep and are quick getting to the rim. Gradey has a lot on his shoulders, getting better on defense while continuing to dribble drive and showing he is a better three point wing than even Svi because Svi could only hit two in a row and Gradey might hit four or more. If Jalen and Udeh/Zuby are grabbing defensive boards we could use our speed on fast breaks. Keep Bobby healthy!!! Sounds like a lot of maybe but reasonably within reach and needed by no later than February. Baby steps.

RE: Is this KU team "lucky" to be 13-1 after Saturday
I have mentioned my nephew who just played his last year in the FCS and his team won as repeat national champions. He may very well be in the NFL next year or be an undrafted free agent. First team AA and an even better young man.

RE: KU vs Cincinnati game chat
What the Johnny did in front of Mom and Dad was amazing. 23 and 10 is his first Furple Double. How about a Fripple Double of points, boards and hustle plays.
-
RE: KU vs Tech chat
How many doinks or that annoying shattering rim sounds did we offer up? That is why we lost I mean they shot lights out and didn’t hit the 80 mark. We can expect better from our three PG, SF and C. Hunter can do better than at the rim air balls. Surely he is practicing treys.
We are as thin as a wafer any way you turn it. -
RE: Pet Peeves Please
Someone who tells a grieving mother their child is in a better place. Gee thanks. Someone who tells a groom “keep her barefoot and pregnant.” I wish you would have told me sooner so I could’ve put that in the wedding vows. The governor of Arkansas. OMFG. People who list a pet peeve and include a snappy comeback.

RE: Control our Destiny Game Thread
When this arena was started in 2015 and we were playing there I noticed that during our free throw attempts the center court scoreboard would strobe towards the foul line. It would reflect off the backboard and white floor so much you could see it on the shooters face. And then I noticed it was only flashing on our attempts. Second half same thing different end. I found the B12 commissioners email and reported it. It stopped but I don’t know if it was me or not.

RE: KU vs Creighton Barrels
@stoptheflop And only one turnover out of the team total of a nice, for us, seven. His two 15’ foot jumpers were very timely. His flat shot trajectory reminds me of Earl the Pearl Monroe’s.
JCL, who matched up well with the bigger guards, displayed good defense (much improved) and was perfect with two pretty swishes one of which was a three.

Sweet Sixteen Seems Extra Sweet
This place in time feels very familiar. Providence seems like the kind of team we have beaten and the kind of team we have lost too. A solid four seed that is not quite as good as this Jayhawk team. Are we a full level step up? Probably not. But a higher ceiling team? Yes for sure.

RE: Ochai Agbaji
Amazing. As the first graduate of the Commandant of the Marine Corps Court Reporter School circa July 1970 I salute your ability to write long offerings to these threads. I cannot type worth a flip anymore due to loss of control over my hand movements. It takes a bit of effort and time so spelling and grammar adherence slip past me like a Remy Martin drive. Admiration and respect to you and the others.

RE: Miami Hurricanes Game Thread
What I wish for today is another Remy jam, three Och slams, two for Dave and a three ball wave. What I think we will get is Jalen won’t be failing, Daj will be stealing, Christian will be preaching and Bill will be teaching. Jayhawks 75 Miami 69.

RE: Way Too Early Line-up and Player Thoughts
Zuby’s rebounding hawkishness has me thinking hmmmmmmm. When many were, and rightly so, admiring the spark and play of Bobby I didn’t think it was threatening for Juan. We heard stories about Bobby last spring, from the coaches, that kept telling us how special Pettiford was looking during practice. I was hoping to see what the big deal was all about. I am glad to report the coaches were right. Lol. His ability to finish on drives was just great and assists everywhere picked up the team energy. When he subs there won’t be any warm up delay because he just goes into action immediately. Yes!!!
Juan makes me feel warm and safe both on offense and defense. He’s not going anywhere soon.
When the team was being special in the first half everyone was involved. When it got sloppy in the second half everyone was involved also. We are just two games in. We don’t know what’s up yet!
-
RE: Ernest Udeh
Zuby has 10 boards in ten minutes of play and was able to hold his position doing it. We need a dog down low!
-
RE: "Bill Self... needed on Aisle 7, please!
Southern Utah a team who had shown they could score 80 plus this year underscored the reality of this year’s team. We are unsettled everywhere except JWill and Juan. Now GD is really good but being a freshman he will disappear at times just like Wiggins and Josh Jackson did. The game before this one his offense disappeared in the second half and this game he was scoreless until quite late in the second half. We need the other two and three guards to be more productive to keep games from getting dicey like this one. And our big’s are what, where and/or who knows. We’re vulnerable in games when we are not fully locked in and will be until like mid January or later or hopefully sooner.

RE: Chef Dick vs Conference Traitors Game Thread
We started off poorly with our shooting and could have been down by double digits but due to OU’s poor shooting stayed in it. The first half was frantic and I can remember thinking thank goodness the halftime came when it did. Our getting to the rim was due to us displaying a high level fast break off turnovers and rebounding. That helped take Groves out of the game after the first ten or so minutes. Dick, again, showed his worth when not scoring by being active on the boards and in passing lanes. When Udeh got his steal and found himself all alone in the open court I thought this will be interesting and it was. Rice must have made some alley oops in practice this week but due mostly to suspect passing it didn’t pan out during the game. Watching Joe with the ball approaching half court I found myself holding my breath and thinking oh s*** he is going to launch one from the logo.
Zuby using his physical gifts to be a beast on defense is still a lady in waiting but could happen like KJ’s was used by Self last year to close out games. -

RE: 2023-2024 Statistics
Opposing coach’s eyes light up when our bench players hit the floor and they go after them immediately. Not so bad except our bench can’t score enough to offset it. Furphy, Nick, Elmarko are still in the you can beat me off the dribble at will stage. Who do you think is the least raw with the most upside? Elmarko, Johnny and McDowell are our best at getting out on the break. Small sample but clear evidence of. Scoring in a set offense Elmarko and Johnny and Parker are the best. Small sample but clear evidence of. Nick is playing hard but air balls are cringey although he hits the defense boards without fear. I think all of them are not timid mixing it up. Nice.

RE: 2023-2024 Statistics
I really only know what I see from watching KU and we have seen how unconscious teams can be against us like UK in the first half against us bombs away and UConn’s Alfred E. Newton hitting wtf shots adnaseum after being 7/27 (25%) before our game. I think we won both of those. Marquette again reminded us that we get the very best efforts against us every freaking game. Other teams think the Jayhawks are impossibly good while we bitch about Timberlake missing shots. We follow the other top teams and watch their stats and think they are better than they are and wonder how they lost to the Beantown Farts or whomever. It’s just fun to look at the numbers this time of the season.

RE: KU vs Wichita game chat
I finally watched all the game on replay. We sure do have a top notch 4 starters and we might just have seen that we now have a solid five and what a difference Elmarko made. 86 points is great with little help the bench which was 5/20 from the field including 1/14 from three. This team is damn good but not a title contender yet with such a low performing bench, except for Parker who gives us that athletic big to offset the seemingly unending supply we seem to face.
