Upon further review, that was so much more than a loss. It was a Greek tragedy.

RE: Feeling the Fieldhouse magic?
If you’d have told me before the game that we held Cryer and Sharp to 17 total points, i would have thought easy win. sigh.
-
RE: Feeling the Fieldhouse magic?
I’m shell shocked. How the hell did that just happen? Twice???
Zeke no less? wtf???

dang. Stupid Dookies.
Not seeing the ESPNNews switch, but sure hope it’s there. Hate coming in 11 minutes into the game!

RE: Feeling the Fieldhouse magic?
Picking this game is a tough one. I don’t feel too confident in a win, but it’s possible. The Jayhawks are a bit more unpredictable this season than in years past.
If we get in a hole today after a typical slow start, a think a comeback will be more difficult.
I do think Hunter can excel in this game. Bidunga, too.
If either goes off, I say we win 70-67.
If not, I think there will be too much defensive pressure on Zeke to pull this one off.

@kjayhawks I would like to play 4 guards, especially if AJ has turned a corner. My only concern would be that this team has practiced 3 guards all year
Doesn’t seem like practicing three guards is a real thing? We switch just about everything on defense. Same. KJ plays and defends on the perimeter. Same. Sometimes run the weave. Same. Ok maybe not so much the weave anymore! What would the difference be?
Either way I’m fine with four guards or non bigs.
I think we ran some great sets against the horny toads. Toss it inside, Hunter kicks it out to a shooter. Perfect. The way it should be. We got a bit lucky when Shak made his shots. Not so lucky when Dickinson has no choice but to kick out to Dajuan.
I don’t think there a perfect answer this year with personnel, as Self won’t change playing his favs. But I’d love to have a true shooter on the floor next to Zeke.
That kick out offense is ideal for Hunter both as a passer and post up player. More!

This may be an unpopular opinion, but I FREAKING LOVED that Hunter held on to that jump ball! Love to see him get fired up.
-
RE: Big Ern’s Frogs meet The Bidunga Bunch — Game Thread
Dajuan is 100 percent awful today. Bad bad.
-
RE: Big Ern’s Frogs meet The Bidunga Bunch — Game Thread
Btw, this TCU team has been described as offensively challenged.

Hunt isn’t as aggressive as he should be getting his shots at the rim. The 3 ball, midrange and short floaters are a big part of his offense. I’ll have to see if there’s numbers of that to back it up.
Edit, found the stats.
Hunter only gets 37% of his shots at the rim and shoots 67% at the rim for a 7’2 guy. 50% of his shots are 2 pt jumpers, the other 12% are 3’s. His shot distribution is out of whack for a guy his size. Self should be correcting this with his scheme that’s built around Hunter.
Seems pretty simple to me! Build a scheme around Hunter. 100% agree. Dude can score with ease when he has some space.

Question to everyone: when you have stoic players, like Hunter, who don’t know how to express enthusiasm, does that make our entire team more stiff and less confident on their shots?
I believe the answer is yes.
I don’t know what is in Hunter’s heart. I suspect he feels enthusiasm but has a hard time expressing it. Maybe some of his teammates can help him with that. Could be a very fun thing to practice and I feel sure would help lift the team and promote confidence!
Hunter? Stoic? Not sure you’re looking at the same Hunter as the rest of the world.
Hunter is well known for trying to get under the skin of his opponents, being very vocal and opinionated, and for his cheap shots.
Not sure stoic is the word here.

RE: The end of NCAA?
Sadly it all makes sense. Or could it be full circle, and the NCAA pulled a brilliant back door scheme, found a way to get a gazillion more dollars in play, and will now thrive!?

On rewatch, I understand why Rylan didn’t get a ton of run. He was very slow getting back in transition after rebounds etc…
OK, so having watched Rylan play so far this season, doesn’t he seem like an awkward athlete?
He has as a smooth, fluid shot, but otherwise he seems to be fighting his body when he runs around.
Dribbling is not a strength.

True. I guess by “modern world” i mean it’s much easier via social media for these thoughts to spread and become truth.
-
RE: Former Texans vs Current Texans
People need a good conspiracy theory to believe in.
Welcome to the modern world.
Society believes what its leaders tell it to believe at times (sorry, couldn’t help myself).

Rough looks from the Texans. Players and coaches whining a lot.
What about? Refs?
-
RE: Former Texans vs Current Texans
Fun with the box score!
Wow, if you only look at the stats, there’s a good chance you would have thought the Texans won.
Total yards
Texans 336. Chiefs 212
Total plays
Texans 65. Chiefs 50
Rushing
Texans 149. Chiefs 50
Passing
Texans 187. Chiefs 162
Hopkins / JuJu / Hollywood
ZERO receptions
Difference maker stats?
Sacks
Texans 3, Chiefs 8
Kick return yards
Texans 67, Chiefs 131

RE: KState game thread
Always nice to beat the sheep lovers!
Fun with the boxscore:
16-21 FTs
We attempted 21 FTs!!! That is fantastic for us.
Of those with double digit minutes played
AJ Storr was -11 in +/-
Hunter and Zeke were 20+ point scorers / and Dajuan with 15, filling that third scorer role mostly necessary to win. Sure wish Rylan or AJ would fill this role, or be a fourth double digit scorer

Ok, inside game it is. I haven’t followed the opposition yet, so hope that’s the right game plan.

RE: KState game thread
I’ve been looking over previous box scores to see what it takes for KU to win.
Seems obvious, but a light review says we need Hunter and Zeke to have solid games, plus one other guy to step up to double figures.
Please get Hunter going!

RE: My crisis of faith in Bill
Sure is crazy that the topic of questioning Bill Self is coming up this season.
Something has pushed some to ponder his coaching.
Is it just KJ and Harris, or are there other concerning factors to you @approxinfinity ?
I think it’s natural to worry about his health after the scare last year. What else?
-
RE: Looking back at Hilton
@approxinfinity yea, sure. but…
He doesn’t need much athletic ability to get his shot off. Great touch. He needs teammates or a coach with the ability to get him open near the hoop. Not 15 feet away from the hoop where his unathletic ability slows things down. Spacing!
It’s happened before. It can happen again. Maybe.
-
RE: Looking back at Hilton
Doesn’t it kinda suck that for the last four or five years every argument comes down to KJ and Juan?
-
RE: Looking back at Hilton
And of course — fun with the box score.
Sums it up:
FTs
KU 4-11
ISU 18-25
Game over.
-
RE: Looking back at Hilton
Hey, it sucks to lose. But losing like that is maddening and frustrating. F-U-G-L-Y.
I lost track of how many times we got a turnover and within a split second turned it right back over.
But, we had a chance to be in this game all night. Stupid turnovers and bad decision making.
I think starting Shak has positives and negatives. The defense is obviously better. But, today at least, we suffer with really only ONE offensive threat on the perimeter. Shouldn’t take much for teams to try to shutdown Zeke. Leaves zero room for Hunter to operate and gain good position.
So, if you’re starting Shak, you gotta start Rylan and not KJ, who is a non threat on O.
Self has his hands full. I wish he would think about offense. You have to score more than the other team to win.

I’m honestly less worried about these type of games. We seem to bring our A game when the situation calls for it. It the games when we are playing less competition like WV or Fizzou we have zero energy.
Yea, weird. The energy part makes no sense to me. It’s very evident at times though. How can guys not be fired up to play? KU needs a Flavor Flav hype man. Yeah Boyeeee!

RE: WKRP in Cincinnatti
@drgnslayr said in WKRP in Cincinnatti:
REALITY CHECK: ISU awaits us! This is a team built to give us a real challenge. We better bring defense and we damn sure better bring offense. If we dilly-dally through the first half of this game we will be down 20+! I heavily suggest we finally make Hunter stay in the post and score! You want high ball screens, that’s what KJ’s for!
First half dilly dallying is a concern.
-
RE: Favorite All Time Players
Jeez, it’s nearly impossible to come up with a starting five. So many favs over the years. Some of my favs:
PG Jacque Vaughn / Sherron Collins
G Kirk Hinrich / Devonte Graham
SF Paul Pierce / Keith Langford / Calvin Thompson
PF Danny Manning / Nick Collison / Alonzo Jamison
C Greg Ostertag / Udoka Azubuike

RE: WKRP in Cincinnatti
@BeddieKU23 said in WKRP in Cincinnatti:
I mean the offense is not nearly close to the level it needs to be. #32 ranked on Kenpom, the d is rated 28 places ahead. They have been struggling to score all season long. You need to be proficient and good at both ends in March. Defense will carry you so far as it has lately but this is the regular season.
And how freaking weird is all that!? Totally the opposite of how we thought this team was built. Thought we’d need to score 90 per game to compete!
-
RE: WKRP in Cincinnatti
Wow, that was maybe the ugliest game I can recall.
The D is coming alive! I watched the Shaq post game interview. Very impressed with his confidence and demeanor.
Some of the stats are just astounding.
Seven total FT attempts! Combined.
KU under 10% from deep.
I’m not quite sure what to think of this team. It seems to be transitioning the last three games.
All Shaq?

RE: Arizona St
It’s not easy, but i’m going to have some hope for Storr though. We did see something good out of him in the UCF game. He did well to find some baskets. not all hope lost, but something needs to change. we don’t know these players, but maybe it’s just a mindset.
-
RE: Arizona St
Anybody worried about that “flat” first half? Seems common now.
Once again we seemed lifeless. Of course I missed the first 5 min of the game. Thx ESPN!
-
RE: Arizona St
My initial enthusiasm about Diggy is waning a bit.
There’s lots to like about his play — mainly that he isn’t shy and he’s in the game for one reason…shoot it.
We sure need that at times. I wish he could reign in his shot selection a tiny bit.

Could it be possible he leaves the team during the Season ?
I had the same thought! Wondered if Storr would call it a day in Lawrence and move on. Seems crazy of course, but he’s now deep in the doghouse. I will say this: Bill gave him a chance to play through FOUR turnovers/mistakes until he yanked him on the fifth eff up. Or something like that. That’s more than usual.
Very intriguing to see how this story line plays out.

We have nine conference home games to go. Thinking about winning the conference title is okay but conference tourney seeding with a vaunted bye is more attainable. Zabudda, you’re lost in a sea of threads!

RE: The KU Sports paywall
Way back in the day i used to have the KC Star delivered to me out here on the Left Coast. Lasted like a month. They’d send me like a week’s worth at a time, and they just collected dust. but that was before the digital days.
I enjoy the content that KU Sports provides for sure.
-
The KU Sports paywall
Well, all good things come to an end. I’m surprised it hasn’t happened sooner.
The paywall has arrived at KUSports.com.
Who’s gonna pony up the $50 a year? I’m undecided. (if they could only get that Upcoming Games algorithm fixed! ha).

RE: Arizona St
@BeddieKU23 said in Arizona St:
Agree I hope they continue to push the pace. Playing slow doesn’t work for this group imo. 3 guard starting lineup might be the answer on offense and may lead to improved defensive efforts as well. Moore was known as a good defender and could really help shore up our perimeter defense. Too early to tell but Moore could really be the chess piece this team needs to leap back forward towards its ceiling.
It’s hard to argue with the success we had against UCF with Shaq starting. I 100% would not have guessed it would lead to more scoring by replacing scorers Storr or Griffen on the floor.
-
RE: Central Flaw rid unh-uh
I was very encouraged to see Storr contribute in some way. Most of his shots were not created for him, but by him. Seems like from what others have said, that’s his thing.
How can he keep that up in the flow of regular offense?
