RE: Coaching Changes
For lack of a better spot to put this...
Looks like the Big 12 just gained a great coach. Arizona State has hired a local guy to me: Randy Bennett from St. Mary's in California.
He's had a tremendous amount of success at St. Mary's, given it's a teeny tiny school. Maybe 2,500 students?
He's played with a small, shooting roster. He's played with a larger more plodding roster. He adjusts to his personnel.
Wish him luck, but not too much luck.

Fair enough. Basically I’m simply offering a way to bitch about players to soothe our post season blues. Since these players are pros now, seems fair.
Does being paid somehow negate being young and dumb? Does it negate playing only one season under Coach Self, who always takes 2 years minimum to get the best out of guys?
I don’t understand what you’re asking.
This post is a simple way to discuss player performance. No nuance involved.

My issues arent with the players. The things I want to grade here are their usage, their growth, their pay. It feels very difficult to judge them as individual contributors in a meaningful way when their capacities are very much bounded by forces external to them.
That being said I would probably give each of them an extra point over your ratings if judging how they handled their season.

I think the “growth” category is the big issue you’re personally having with Self. Most saw no growth, and actually performed worse as the season progressed. Flory is better than last year, but we can see his flaws and kryptonite.
Usage: another Self issue.

RE: Money next year
As far as i can tell, the schools can "revenue share" in any way then want though, right?
I poked around and couldn't find any limits on structure. Who knows. it's all wrapped in a riddle.
But 100% against paying em all the same. Ya get what you can, tis the American way. All that being said, i HATE this entire pay system. Way out of control. It'll be a death blow to college sports at some point.

Agreed. I just thought he was wimpy going to the rim. too many wild, gangly layup attempts.

Season in review: the players
Let's take a look at how we feel the players performed this year. I'll start us off with a few. Feel free to offer your own ratings here if you'd like. My grades could for sure be skewed as my mood is crap right now!
My two cents:
Darryn Peterson
Averages: 20 pts / 4 rebounds / 1.7 assists ( a shockingly low 38 assists on the year. wow) / 60 3pts made
Performance: This is a tough one. Generally his numbers are more than good for a freshman. I argue he did very little to next to nothing to make the players around him better. Ya have to add his health issues to the overall as a big negative, both for him and the team.
Score: 7 out of 10
Melvin Council
Averages: 12 pts / 5 rebounds / 5 assists / 36 3pts made
Performance: Seemingly a team leader. Fan favorite with his "dawg" PR movement. Bonus points for that. Generally a weak scorer. Needed to be more dominant offensively more than he was. Had a pretty bad end of season run. Defense seemed strong, at least the effort seemed there mostly. I'd prefer Self get guards who can take over games in all aspects (sherron, graham, etc).
Score: 7 out of 10 / End of season run lowers grade.
Tre White
Averages: 13.8 pts / 6.7 rebounds / 1.7 assists / 56 3pts made
Performance: He probably deserves a better grade than i wanna give him. Except for a few games during the regular season, he was a consistent scorer, hit the boards, defended. But he was crap in post season games. Big demerit for a very experienced player. My two cents: He's soft as hell when near the rim. Weak. Go straight at it, get a foul instead of these 360 up and unders he constantly tried.
Score: 6.5 out of 10 / I understand his stats alone say he should grade better.
I may add a few at some point.

@crimsonblu22 I’m hearing everyone but Mari and Elmarko are being shopped hard by their agents. Trying to get max pay days. Dook is supposedly offering over 3 mill for Flory alone.
Stupid if ya don't in this era, huh. it is what it is now. times have changed

RE: Kansas vs St Johns
Not so fun wth the box score...
this one can't entirely be judged on the box score. unless they added a mental mistake category.
3 PT SHOTS
KU -- 5-14
SJU -- 11-35
Pretty much the most glaring stat. We challenged them to shoot, and they made enough to win.
INDIVIDUAL PERFORMANCES
Council -- he did what he had to in the major stats: 15 pts, 9 boards, 4 assists. but an ugly to watch 5 TOs.
Bryson -- 0 points, 5 boards. Think he'll be better in years to come? not sure what his go to way to score is yet.
Mbiya -- more boards than Flory in less than half the minutes.
Elmarko -- will be remembered for that last play

Tre -- 4 pts, 5 boards, 3 assists, 3 TOs. we needed him to score.
DP -- 21 with some i guess questionable shot selections. but somebody has to shoot!
REBOUNDS
KU -- 44
SJU -- 36
Nicely done. going in i thought we matched up well to compete on the boards.
TURNOVERS
KU -- 16
SJU -- 8
no bueno.
BLOCKS
KU -- 9
SJU -- 3
Also nicely done.

RE: Coaching Staff
So does anybody think Self calls it a career at KU?
IMO, he sticks around.
Any chance he’d go to OSU to close out his career!
-
RE: Kansas Jayhawks vs Cal Baptist Lancers 8:45
I still think we have a good chance Sunday. St John’s isn’t even as big as Cal Baptist! Ha.
They are about the same shooting 3s as Kansas. KU has made like 8 more 3s on the year, 2% more accurately.
They are each at about 38 rebounds per game.
But they got us on scoring per game.
-
RE: Kansas Jayhawks vs Cal Baptist Lancers 8:45
Can we trade in Tre White for a used Miata or VW bus or something?
He topped 200,000 miles and needs a new everything.
-
RE: Kansas Jayhawks vs Cal Baptist Lancers 8:45
Fun (or really not so fun) with the box score!
REBOUNDS
KU let a 5-foot-8 guy get 7 rebounds!
Baptists 42, Kansas 41
Bryson with 10. The only positive from him.
POINTS
Flory, Bryson and Melvin: 6, 6 and 4!
That is abysmal.
DP with 28.
THE SPECIAL PAUL MBIYA CATEGORY!
8 pts, 4-5 shooting, 3 boards, 1 block in 16 minutes.
Why the heck has Self refused to play him all year? A few minutes here and there can’t hurt.
Hard to have a positive spin off that performance

RE: Selection Sunday + Bracket Challenge
Not sure ya'll realize, but this Siena/Duke game is a real tough one to root for either side.
I mean, everybody wants to watch Duke lose!!!
But Siena's coach is Gerry !@#$% McNamara.
If you don't recall, you will when you look him up. We don't like him.

Entered, ya'll going down in flames, you might as well save yourself the heartache and delete your brackets. I'm so confident I don't have to enter 42 brackets or whatever like some people do. 1 bracket is all this self described nostradumbass needs to win this thing. This is your last and final warning to give up.
One bracket per customer!

RE: Selection Sunday + Bracket Challenge
Bracket has been bracketed.
This may be my least informed year in history.
Darts at the side of a barn.
Good luck to all! But not too much luck, unless you have KU in the Final Four, then it's OK. -
RE: Other Games 2025-2026
Yea, i listened to some of that Dickie V / Barkley game. Honestly, it's not about the game to them. They toss out a generic phrase about a player here and there, but generally not great to listen to. Dickie V is past tense as a broadcaster IMO.
