Well, Storr is not coming to KU to be a bench player. He’s a starter for sure. I wonder if Self is starting to reconsider some roles.

Storr! He is fun to watch. Nice addition. Who knows who’s next!
They all seem to play the same position so far?

RE: 2024 Recruiting
It wouldn’t be a Kansas recruiting summer without some chaos. I predict the chaos hasn’t even begun.
Oops, hit send too soon!
Crazy scenarios:
— Hunter gets an offer from a pro team in Greece in August and leaves
— Dajuan is lured back to Missourah!
— KJ decides to go pro in rodeo
And we will do some September recruiting to fill the roster! Ha.

It will be a bummer if Philon bails.
Yup. We need to develop a PG. Oddly just read an old Self quote that said “he can play some point”. Wonder if Self had plans to use him as an off guard more than a PG? Weird.
But, that must mean we have a portal PG locked up?

Darius Acuff should be visiting this weekend. Explains Rylan coming a big earlier than expected since you wouldn’t want overlap.
Wow. How did we pull off that? Haven’t seen Kansas on any list for Acuff.

RE: 2024 Portal Madness Thread
IF we got both, which doesn’t make sense on the surface, maybe we go smaller ball (we can dream, right?):
Dajuan
Storr
Kugel
Griffen
Hunter
Zeke is sixth man
KJ a big off the bench
Elmarko fills in at guard
The rest who knows!
-
RE: Transfer Rumblings
Griffen looks like a shooter, and less of an attack the basket type. a little stiffer, not crazy athletic off the dribble. which is fine.
Kugel seems like he has way more to his game, but maybe as hinted at in some fine print he has some issues in the noggin. hopefully it’s just motivational.
-
RE: Transfer Rumblings
Apparently it’s my day to read about soon to be Jayhawks. More on Kugel.
Pure speculation here, but I sense he and Self will butt heads. Guys who “get lost in schemes” don’t normally do well under Self.

@stoptheflop said in I Know it's Pointless, but what if. . .:
Arterio Morris got a federal court injunction against KU’s dismissal from the team like Terrence Shannon did at Illinois? I have to admit I was really disappointed that Shannon played out the season for Illinois despite a Douglas County Kansas pending felony case, while Morris languished from juco team to juco team due to a Douglas County felony case that just got dismissed. Shannon’s charges remain pending. It doesn’t help to speculate about the charges and the reasons why cases get dismissed. I’m really wondering how much Morris would have helped this year’s team. We didn’t see him on court enough to tell how he would have fit in with the rest of the guys, but I remember wishing for another scorer throughout the year just before Johnny got going for several games. And, another scorer would have helped replace Kevin’s points when he got hurt. Maybe, Morris was dismissed for reasons other than the pending charges, but I sure wonder if Morris hired a lawyer and got an injuncton if that would have been a positive for KU, expecially with the dismissal of the charges against him.
Counting the minutes before this post gets ugly…(sorry, flop)

@FarmerJayhawk said in Transfer Rumblings:
He was a decent enough defender his freshman year then Bama stunk on ice on defense this year (like 100 spots worse in KenPom defense than us… woof) so his defensive stats tanked. It sure looks like it’ll be a much, much different style of team, even more so if Furphy comes back. KJ is going to start but if his main role is really a utility piece at the 4/5 that would be terrific. Zeke, Griffen, and Furphy at the 2-4 gives me heart eyes. It’s a better rebounding team and has plenty of scoring punch.
Is there a shot creator in there, Farmer? A guy who can get to the rim?
-
RE: Transfer Rumblings
I don’t recall his game, but the Alabama people seem pissed he’s leaving.
They say he’s a threat from 3, and a good perimeter defender. “Potential” to be a great defender with his size, athleticism.
Skinny for sure.

Dang, arrest warrant for Rice.
It’s hard to root for dangerously stupid people sometimes.

I wonder how long universities will continue to receive public funding for semi-pro sports? Will it come to a vote like the Royals/Chiefs next time they want a new arena!?!
Yup. And what if universities eventually want a cut of the NIL cash, arguing that they provide the platform to given them stardom?
-

Wow!

@FarmerJayhawk said in New NIL tournament for next year:
@rockchalkjayhawk might be a big disadvantage for UCLA and Cal State schools to have to disclose what players actually get.
Yup. But, as they did previously, I imagine other states will quickly follow suit if this one passes. So maybe temporary disadvantage. I haven’t read more to see if this bill stands a chance. Gotta be heavy pushback from the “private” collectives.
You’d think rumors about NIL cash would spread quickly between players. Guessing kids already know what each school pays. It makes sense to me that eventually the public knows what public universities or their collectives pay kids. By name, too.
-
RE: New NIL tournament for next year
BTW, it’s from the same legislator (Nancy Skinner) who was behind the first two bills in the US to give students the right to NIL compensation
-
RE: New NIL tournament for next year
Speaking of NIL…this may be of interest to some.
A California legislator has offered a bill that would pull back the veil on NIL deals.
Would mandate that collectives and other entities provide this basic info to colleges, which then would be made public:
— amount of NIL $$ provided to athletes and their families
— the team/sport
— provide total compensation and value of deals by sport and gender.
— would not require names.
Looks like a gender equity play.

RE: Transfer Rumblings
Zach. Hmm.
Not sure he’s gotten a fair shake yet. Big guys always need more time to develop. Have we seen enough of him to know?
I know I don’t want to see him shoot 3s anymore, that’s about it. He hustles (and gets bloody!). Seems aggressive on the boards. I can’t speak to his mental health — wasn’t that rumored? Immaturity? Dunno.

He pulls up from behind the arc. He absolutely has a pull up game.
Ha! gotcha. Must be my old school thinking. Pull up is midrange!

RE: Who would you keep for next year?
Looks like we’re still waiting to hear who’s gonna do some portaling.
Given our guard/wing acquisitions, Elmarko has to be thinking twice about leaving.
-
RE: Elmarko
I guess the question is how can the coaching staff mold or make something out of Elmarko?
He’s got a good basketball body. Seems to have quickness and mobility.
Does anybody truly think he can eventually be a productive PG? Or will they try to make him a driver/scorer?

RE: 2024 NFL Offseason - FAs, Trades, Draft
Looks like Clyde is back for a year. I’m fine with that. He can pound out a few yards.
Oddly JK Dobbins was in town today. Guessing he’s off the table now with Clyde back.
We really need a pass catching back.
-
RE: Zeke Mayo
Wow. Two free agent commits before the season is even over. Nice. Will be interesting to see how these two battle it out for PT. I’ve never seen either play, so no clue what Self has in mind.

RE: 2024 Recruiting
Watching a few minutes of Bidunga in the McDs practice scrimmage.
Only saw a few runs up and down the floor. Very springy! Left handed. Quick up the floor. Doesn’t have traditional big man size. At least not compared to a few other guys on the floor.
-
RE: Other bball games
Man, after watching Purdue today, I am shocked at the lack whistles on those defending Edey. Constant aggressive arm bars in his back. Thought that was a point of emphasis?

RE: 2024 NFL Offseason - FAs, Trades, Draft
Ok, cruising the top site for this kinda stuff (TMZ pays the best for source material)…these guys look to be absolute idiots. I’m still guessing Rice has a semi soft landing, but it now would not surprise me if it were harsher after seeing the scene.
I’m no expert, but dude in white could be Rice? Hair looks right, hard to say on face.
Lots of damage done to cars. I’m still guessing this pleads down to not much, but for sure civil suits coming.
Maybe he’s got a good excuse.

I could take or leave him honestly. Have heard the expectation is that he will come back. But if he doesn’t…eff it add two bigs instead we move.
The Hunter situation for me depends on other dominoes.
We absolutely NEED Hunter to stay if we don’t bring in any automatic plug in scorers.
If not, he’s our guy.

Well, well. I’m surprisingly near the top. I felt good about a few teams reaching the Final Four, but spent zero time pondering the first few rounds and upsets. That cost me.
-
RE: Transfer Rumblings
My guesses is that Self does a major reshuffling.
STAYING Dajuan KJ Furphy
LEAVING Hunter McDowell Elmarko Clemence
RESHUFFLING Some of the end of the bench guys will be replaced by guys who can compete for a role
COACHES Guessing Sadler and a bigger name are gone

@BeddieKU23 right. But its the mental side of things we need to do better at. Dotson was a 3 sport athlete, Embiid grew up playing soccer. All the internationals are growing immensely by coming here and seeing life in an entirely different society. Maybe there is a lack of robustness of mind, groundedness, when you are a single (? Is he?) sport athlete produced by the AAU puppy mill.
Im struggling to articulate, help me pick at this thread if it strikes a chord?

Ugh, Sneed has been nearly officially traded to the Titans.
2025 3rd round pick main asset in return.
This should save the Chiefs about $19M in cap space.
We will see how the spend it, but I’d rather have Sneed. Great talent on a team that needs a strong defense.
