Per Trey Smith: Some are speculating it sets the stage for a tag and trade.

RE: Chiefs offseason
And the BIG news of the day:
Chiefs will franchise tag Trey Smith.
Big surprise from what I’ve been reading.
-
RE: Chiefs offseason
Ha. Saw that one too. The off-season NFL is fun!
It’d be a $24M dead cap space hit. So, doesn’t seem to make sense.

kJ’s flying dunk over Zac is my favorite slam of the year…
Hunter lumbering down the court for a slam has to be in contention.

And though KJ didn’t rebound well, he was the other glue for this team, especially with his energy on both sides of the ball! Great job!
outside of KJ, none of our guys like to play through contact. They all try to keep space away from the defender in midrange and low post. NOT GOOD!
KJ plays through contact? Ha. I think you’re thinking of a different KJ! With his body, KJ SHOULD play thru contact, but doesn’t. Rarely goes up strong. (Alley oops don’t count)

RE: Man is KU is really going to stomp Colorado tonight!
Did Zeke score tonight???
I’m not really joking when I ask!
-
RE: Man is KU is really going to stomp Colorado tonight!
Jeez. Finally. Painful to watch, but I’m sure we’ll all take it.
-
RE: Man is KU is really going to stomp Colorado tonight!
Zeke. My god. How many times can one guy fall asleep on defense?
I’m telling ya, if we can just stop doing brainless things we could win!
-
RE: Man is KU is really going to stomp Colorado tonight!
So I like when we see flashes of athleticism from Storr. Just give him the ball and get out of the way.
-
RE: Man is KU is really going to stomp Colorado tonight!
Ok, got my negative thought out in the other thread.
Go Hawks!
So what happened in the first 10 min?
-
RE: So do we lose to Colorado?
Man oh man, glad we’re up, but we can we do some stupid sh*t on the basketball court. And this is a veteran team.
We just compound mental errors. what could have been a 10+ point lead is down to five.
Harris for no reason at all drives into a dozen guys in the lane and throws it away. Zero reason to try that. Know the clock and score.
Zeke COMPLETELY forgets to play anything remotely close to defense and we give up a simple baseline bucket.
Know the score! Know the game! Play smart!

Work: done
Dinner: eaten
Dishes: done
Next up: Jayhawks. Please keep me in a calm state of mind before bed!

@kjayhawks said in So do we lose to Colorado?:
@rockchalkjayhawk I’m hoping it works out that way, IMO this isn’t top 25 team arguably not even top 40.
Yup. fingers crossed.
I think we’re Top 25 material for sure. Just have to prove it.
-
RE: So do we lose to Colorado?
And sadly we dropped out of the Top 25 today.
Maybe that will provide some motivation for the game tonight.
-
RE: Biggest game of the year thread
Yea, that 8 p.m. west coast time slot (9 p.m. Colorado time / 10 p.m. Kansas time) is pretty regular out here. Somebody gets stuck with it most every week.
Gives us on the coast something to watch after dinner for sure though. Sucks for everybody else. Sucks for local Kansas fans for sure.
-
RE: Biggest game of the year thread
Fun with the box score! And it is truly fun this time. yay. fast paced action. exactly how we need to play.
52
First half points.
52 – 46 – 75
FG% – 3pt% – FT%
I’ll take that most games!
36
Bench points!!! wow.
48 – 28
KU – OSU rebounds
-5
Flory’s +/- That’s interesting. Hmmm.
<30
Not a single player over the 30 minute mark.
18
Lots of turnovers though. Maybe from a faster pace?

@rockchalkjayhawk I’m not sure if he is trying to fit square pegs into round holes. To me it seems more like trying to see if any of these pegs can stand on their own. I think all he is trying to do right now is get guys to care and the more he tries, the less they care. But we may have ourselves in a cycle where the less they care, the less he cares, and the less I seem to care.
sure, fine. we can toss the square peg / round hole analogy. Something’s amiss. However we want to word it. I just want these guys to run! All but Hunter seemed well-suited for a run and gun style.
Even though we didn’t start Flory over Hunter, I’d like to take credit for today’s win! Lots of running and gunning. You’re welcome

RE: Biggest game of the year thread
No time to eff around. gotta come close to winning out the rest of the way to guarantee we’re dancing.

RE: Chiefs offseason
Ha, saw this rumor today. seems like no way it could happen.
Inspired by an idea from Shannon Sharpe, this projected trade sees the Chiefs sending a fourth and seventh-round pick in the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft to the Atlanta Falcons in exchange for former No. 4 selection Kyle Pitts and a 2026 seventh-rounder.

RE: Chiefs offseason
A few Chiefs rumors/hearings:
— Kelce leaning toward coming back
— Hollywood Brown may be the most likely FA wide receiver to return
— Chiefs are not expected to franchise tag guard Trey Smith
— Arrests made in dudes who robbed Mahomes and Kelce. A Chilean theft gang!
— Noise out there about KC signing FA left tackle Ronnie Stanley from Baltimore.

RE: The rest of the season
Well, the entire sports universe is pretty much saying KU hoops is in a downward spiral and an embarrassment.
With locker room troubles, apparent player backlash and what not, this could actually be a defining moment – for the better.
The players surely value their good names, right? They have to re-energize after reading how lazy and unenthusiastic they play.
They can’t just sit back and be mocked like that, can they? There has to be positive change in effort soon! I hope at least.

You can’t enjoy the highs, if you aren’t hurt by the lows too. Welcome to the bipolar life of a normal basketball fan. The drug of Bill Self’s dominance has worn off this year. How will we handle the withdrawal?!? Sports sobriety, Ugg. Curl up in the fetal position and cry? Full body spasms as it works its way thru our system? Uncontrollable sweating and Tourette’s like swearing when watching a ball game.
Well, I’ll be damned if the hopium doesn’t have me hooked for at least another year…
Well said!

RE: The rest of the season
Ok, after watching tonight, it seems like there’s one thing to do …
Ya got one thing for sure happening here: Self is trying to fit square pegs into round holes this season. And it’s just not working.
He’s trying to force players to play within his system. Ok, hard to argue against, except for the rotten stench.
I now see one solution. I mean there’s nothing to lose at this point, right?
Bench Hunter, insert Storr into tonight’s lineup and run, run, freaking run and gun.
Tell the guys there’s one rule: run. You get the ball? Don’t stop til you hit our backboard. Every time. Foul, turnover or bucket. I don’t care which. Sub often. Run!
We got the ponies to run. We don’t have the ponies to do whatever it is we’re doing now.
Release the hounds, Bill!

RE: Tonight's game
One minute and thirty seconds.
That’s all the time it took for us to be out of the game tonight.
Hard to believe we can this bad.

RE: Early Hearings TM
Can’t read it, so I’ll speculate:
(Sorry in advance. Feeling stupid)
— Bill to team: you’re soft as 3-ply Charmin
— Hunter to nobody in particular: Anybody seen my bag of cash?
— Dajuan during team outing: So if me and the Brauns moved up here, we could all get married?
— Ostertag in Jazz uniform: Listen u little shts, I’ll swat your sht back to Kansas if you don’t pull it together. And who stole my fishing rod?!
— Coach Townsend during pregame meeting as his phone rings: Excuse me, coach. That’s TJ Gasnola on the line.
— Self to Mayo: Zeke, you need to be more chesty on the road.
— AJ Storr to the team: Fellas, I quit.
Everybody in unison: AJ, you already quit like five times this season!
(As KJ admires his physique in the mirror the entire time)

RE: Tonight's game
Bummer. Maybe that will allow more playing time for a frequently pulled quickly after a turnover guy?
Growth. i’m all for it.

RE: 2025 Portal Madness Thread
So weird that you can have in-season visits from guys currently enrolled at another school. Another reason we need better management from whoever the governing body is these days.
-
RE: The rest of the season
So, i’ve been doing some common fan thinking (insert joke here) about how to fix things.
The only conclusion i can come to is: It has to be an attitude thing.
If we can beat Duke and a few other good programs, something obviously went right.
We certainly have flaws in our roster. But it is what it is. We can win games.
Now how to get things turned around, that remains a mystery.
-
RE: The rest of the season
Well, looks like we somehow remained in the Top 25 in AP and Coaches poll, barely. 23/25
A poor outing vs the multiple wifers Tuesday and that’s all, folks.
Suck it up, buttercups! Play like ya care, please.

RE: Fishing
I used to fish a little when I lived in Kansas. Lake fishing.
Carp are a blast to catch. They are so strong and feel like a Volkswagen on the end of your line.
I think we used bread on the lure.
Did some bass fishing out here on the West Coast, too. Been awhile though.
-
RE: The rest of the season
Ah, thx. This kind of thread is what I had in mind to start today.
Still needs more thought, but I think we are in the danger zone. It would be shocking if we don’t make the NCAAs.

RE: Ute came to the right place
@dylans said in Ute came to the right place:
I’d expect people to be disappointed, but the only “solution” I hear around these parts is fire the coach. SMH unoriginal, boring, tired, sad. If this applies to you, pick your head up - KU isn’t likely to win the national championship this year or next or the next or the next. It’s just a numbers thing. If the National Championship is all you care about, you will be disappointed nearly every year of your fandom. At best you might enjoy one in twenty years or you could root for a team like Missouri and not even know what a final four is like.
If you can’t have fun watching the team grow and competing you will be disappointed nearly every year. For instance, some are really enjoying watching Flory develop. He could be a great player if he figures out how to play with others - help defense, why positioning on offense helps the flow, etc. I look forward to seeing how his KU career progresses.
To me it looks like the team lacks an emotional leader and that can’t be the coach. They need a Travis Kelce, DeVonte Graham, type hype man. There aren’t any true alphas (Frank Mason, Mario Chalmers, Tyshawn, Robinson, Ochai), demand the ball in the crunch time players on the team. I suspect this is why there is such a big let down on the road compared to home performances with the crowd providing the energy at Allen and a lack of an alpha to carry/spark them.
The pieces are there, the spark isn’t. That is on the players to find. You either want it or you don’t and some (most) don’t know the effort it takes - I sure didn’t put forth the effort in sports that I thought I did in hindsight. I quit when I got wore out or hurt instead of pushing thru like, not my, but my loved ones life depended upon it. I didn’t have the heart of a sports champion, I hope the team finds theirs.
I agree with you on two points, but disagree on another.
Yup, they really lack a hype man leader this season. Pretty obvious. Without ever really realizing it, maybe that what’s it takes to win. Maybe it’s not as easy in the one year rental era to find that guy?
Zero spark most days. 100%.
Are the pieces really there? I don’t think they are.

RE: Ute came to the right place
Fun with the box score.
This pretty much sums up the lack enthusiasm tonight:
REBOUNDING
Utah 46 KU 36
OFFENSIVE REBOUNDING
Utah 16 KU 6
But just for fun I’ll throw in:
FG %
Utah 36.5% KU 40%

@TYOHawk I have never been this frustrated with any KU BB coach in my life. That being said I think we give Bill next season as long as Dp still comes and Flory stays. He has done enough to have a few bad seasons. If Dp/Fkory jump ship it’s over and we need to move on from him.
We are in the pace and space era and we really run lineups with 3 non shooting bigs and a non shooter at PG.
It’s the type of thing you would laugh at happening in another program but it’s become normal here. It almost feels like a middle finger to the fan base at times with some of the lineup decisions.
I saw a Dajuan/Shak/Diggy/KJ/Flory lineup tonight man. Who is supposed to score or create shots in this lineup?
Exactly. I about lost it with that lineup at that point in the game.

Shak is the mystery to me. Need defense. We shouldnt be acting like a football team with a separate offense and defense team. We need a blended team that can score.
Was debating the same thing earlier. We were down 6 with a pure D team in the floor, except for Diggy. Weird.
-
RE: Ute came to the right place
Boy, this team is really frustrating to watch.
We’re gonna have to break down why in a separate thread.
