Hey, we still have a starting 5, but no bench!

@kjayhawks He was encouraged to leave.
Too bad about Passmore. He looked like he had potential on D, and he has the proper size and athleticism to compete. I was hoping he’d stick around a few years or so as a foundational piece.
I saw a few flashes this year. Obviously limited viewing opportunities.
These are the kind of guys Bill develops.
Yeah, I wish there was time to develop anymore…
I think things are going to have to settle down with transfers and NIL in a year or two.
We have to weather the storm. And hope Self is the right guy to deal with fresh players every year. Off the top it sure doesn’t seem like it.

The roster is shrinking pretty quickly here.
More news coming soon I assume.

FWIW I’ve heard as long as Coach Self is here…Darryn will be here.
This is pretty much the deal.
Glad you’re hearing what I’m hearing on this.
Like I said Shark is my brother…but I’d just give Coach some time man. This has been a SEASON. I can’t imagine how taxing emotionally it was on the players and the staff…hell we feel it as a fanbase.
Kind of Self-inflicted though! ha.

Ok. Thanks guys… do you feel the absence of a GM will put us at a competitive disadvantage this off season? Do we have enough cabbage to field the roster we want?
Without any semblance of transparency in this new NIL era, these questions are impossible to answer.
For any public institution, all $$$ transactions should be recorded for all to see.
Who knows, maybe Self and Co. are brilliant money managers.

RE: What does “faith in Bill” mean?
I posted this on the Portal thread, but does anybody even know if Flory is eligible for NIL cash, being from another country?
-
RE: The portal.
Wait, clueless question here:
Is Flory eligible to receive NIL riches? I thought foreign players were restricted?
-
RE: The portal.
Well, let’s sit back and pray Bill brings in a rebuilt, monster of a roster.
-
RE: The portal.
Jeez. Sounds like the ship is sinking.
Should we still have faith in Bill Self?
What’s the word?

Christopher Tilly- mutual interest
I may not be exaggerating by saying that dude has like a 1 inch vertical. glued to the ground.
I’d prefer more mobile, springy bigs. Remember when USC kicked our ass with the tall, athletic, mobile Mobley brothers? Like that, please.

Did we ever get a final KJ diagnosis? i don’t see any updates anywhere.

RE: Generic soccer thread
Forgot to post this the other day!
USA played Panama in the Nations league, and lost in the waning seconds.
Some odd people in odd positions to start the game. Mostly surprised to see Weston McKennie as the center mid #10 in a 4-2-3-1.
I always liked him and Tyler Adams teaming up in the defensive end, but they were on separate lines.
Anway, uneventful mostly. US had some good chances. Pulisic was messy.

RE: Early Hearings TM
Just a general statement on Coit type players.
We need bigger, better to get back into upper echelon status.
I hope he and others like him are an afterthought in future recruiting.
-
RE: What does “faith in Bill” mean?
I saw the Stanford loss coming a mile away.
But that was a bad matchup problem for us. Unlucky draw.
We didn’t do well against size and multiple bigs that season. And they had both.
-
RE: Early Hearings TM
Apologies in advance…but if Coit is the best we can do, we’re in trouble.
I’m looking at all these big, strong guards with multiple skill sets in the tournament, and Coit just doesn’t measure up.
sure, he can hit a streaky 3, but c’mon man.
We can’t settle for guys like Coit and hope to succeed on any level moving forward.

RE: Fiftieth Annual KU Buckets Bracket Challenge!!!
Jeez, my bracket lacked enthusiasm this year. Lost a million matchups already.
Toast.
-
RE: Lets Dance - Arkansas vs KU
And Fun With the Box Score!!
Actually, not much stood out to me tonight. Lots of similar stats.
The biggest thing was turnovers: KU 16 – Arkansas 10
One small thing also stood out: AJ Storr got 28 minutes, and produced.
-
RE: Lets Dance - Arkansas vs KU
I’ll list the obviously desperate acts Bill Self miraculously resorted to tonight (finally – and they worked):
– Zone defense. Stupid effer could have done this much earlier in the season to help us out a bit???
– Playing AJ more minutes.
Both worked very well tonight.
Why did he decide to succumb tonight? He has had many chances all year to alter his approach.

Yea, looked like it.
The way he reacted and went straight to the locker room. Terrible.

RE: Lets Dance - Arkansas vs KU
Well, we had a lead with minutes to go, then just started tossing the ball to the other team.
So hard to see that.

Very happy that AJ has come to play.
And why is it every game we make one guy who averages like zero points a game into an all star?
Step it up, defense!

We wouldn’t even look at Mgbako I bet.
Now Bryce Hopkins, that’s a JAYHAWK (I pray and beg)
I’d probably cry if we got him at this point. He reminds me a lot of Jalen Wilson maybe even better 6’7 guy that plays like a guard. I’m just scared we will roll out 2 bigs that are completely useless more than 5 feet away from The goal.
Having two bigs clog the lane with DP coming in doesn’t sound ideal? He needs room to get in the lane.

Hoping that means he’ll be at least somewhat comfortable and be home field Zeke.

RE: Chiefs offseason
Sounds like Kareem Hunt is back too.
The RB room seems set with Pacheco, Hunt, Mitchell and maybe a late round RB draft pick?
-
RE: Arizona beatdown!
Pretty much zero contribution from Rylan and AJ tonight. Deal breaker.
-
RE: Arizona beatdown!
Not so fun with the box score!
A few startling stats tonight.
3Pt
Arizona 8-17
KU 14-41
And we lost???
FT
Arizona 18-31
KU 9-13
Big difference in makes.
POINTS
Rylan — 2
AJ — 0
BENCH POINTS
KU — 13
Arizona —45

I’m just worn out thinking if we somehow come back and win that we have to play a tougher opponent tomorrow and then another tougher opponent Saturday. It’d be exhilerating, but wow, daunting.
Remember when WE used to be the tougher opponent?

RE: Central Florida 3. Not UCF.
@BeddieKU23 said in Central Florida 3. Not UCF.:
Rylan is 22/75 from the field (29%) since February started. He hasn’t played like a starter in almost 2 months outside a play or 2 a game. Don’t get it with him
Even though I’ve stated earlier I’d like to see AJ start, I’m not sure I’d want to switch Rylan and AJ at this point, but it’s difficult to watch Rylan put the ball on the court in his spastic way.
If we can get him an open shot, that would help.
Now if AJ has back to back good games…I say presto chango Remy March Madness time.
-
RE: Chiefs offseason
Watch out Mahomes, Minshew Mania is in da house!!!
-
RE: Central Florida 3. Not UCF.
Fun with the box score!
Nothing real shocking tonight. Lots of similarity though. Stats nearly identical.
Turnovers
KU — 16
UCF — 14
Basic shooting stats
KU took eight more shots, both otherwise both teams about the same with percentages:
FG
45% ish
3PT
44% ish
FT
75-78%
Bench points
This was a big one for KU!
30-13

RE: Central Florida 3. Not UCF.
@BShark said in Central Florida 3. Not UCF.:
Haphazard line-ups tonight. Storr has given up multiple wide open threes.
In defense of Storr, giving up wide open 3s is kinda our thing. Blame all around many times over.
I was very excited about Storr’s play tonight. I know going in not to expect much on D. That changes your perspective for the better. If he makes a play, great. Kinda like not having high hopes of KJ making any guarded shot near or under the basket. If he does, I’m elated (lobs not included).
But this team, Jesus! It’s like digging a grave with a spoon. They make things soooo much harder than they need to with brain dead play! Even the announcers were like, wtf are these guys doing??? Value the ball. Slow down. Keep possession.
But a win’s a win. We need em. On to Arizona.

What's this team's identity?
Can’t believe it’s March and i’m still pondering this, but what IS our team identity?
Hard nosed on defense? Post play? Running? Half court?
I’m not even sure i can say.
In year’s past it’s been way easier.
