I guess no one mentioned the streak to him? and the greatness of it?

Good point.
Which coach of a team from across the country now ranked above KU managed greater adversity and finished better with less depth and talent?
I would think there might be one, but I can’t think of one, so…
Ready. Set. Go!
who gives a flip!!! all i’m saying is you are comparing a Ferrari to a Corolla…it doesn’t matter what the discussion is…you just don’t compare those 2 classes of vehicles.
Wow…this board is going straight UK. Homers going from patting selves on back constantly to giving self BJs for self gratification.
hmm…lets see…let me compare KU to the vastly inferior BIG 12 and make my dick look bigger!!!
Has ANY Other Big 12 Coach than Self Managed Roster Uncertainties and Apparent Chemistry Problems As Skillfully and Effectively as Self Apparently Has this Season??
Seriously…this is what its come to? we are really comparing self to other big 12 coaches? The only coaches Self can ever be compared to are the elite coaches.
this is like you are comparing your ferrari to corollas and sedans.
We need to stop this BS comparison. In he Big 12 there’s KU, then there’s a yuuuuge gap and then there’s the rest of the big 12. If KU only played a 5 man rotation this year, we still would win the big 12. just stop the nonsense.

so why does duke keep on getting all the top recruits?
Crook K keeps on coaching the USA Men’s National Team in the summers. Nice tool for recruiting, yes?
yes…i’m sure that’s the only reason why. i’m sure the # of rings on his finger have nothing to do with it
KansasComet said:

Everything he’s said is true. we live and die by the 3. If Svi doesn’t make his 3’s against tech, we don’t win that game. This form of Russian (or Ukrainian) roulette with Svi we are playing is very very risky.
Do recruits outside of Kansas really care about the streak? seriously…when has any recruit said i want to go and win big 12 ship and extend streak? nada…all recruits say is they want to win championships. This is why Duke constantly keeps on getting top recruits. As much as i hate to say it, Coach K is considered the gold standard in college bball and he doesn’t have close to the conf streak we do. Again - national titles. that’s what stands out! As much as we like to downplay the tourney as a crapshoot, it is the official measure of the ncaa greatness.
The streak is something we propelled to exponential importance because as KU fans, we don’t have anything else to cling to. we feel it keeps us relevant when in reality it is nothing more than a “dick size” contest with other teams in the big 12. Yea, we can brag to KSU, ISU, WVU, etc. but that’s about it.
I know a lot of you disagree with this thinking, but the same bunch also say the big 12 is the toughest conference when in reality it is not.

KSU has as much talent as anyone in the league this year
HAHAHAHAHAHAH…GTFO…KSU…bball…talent…hahahahaha! this is so damn funny i can’t even finish typing out my clever comeback.

From my view, I personally don’t care at all because I don’t care about the NBA. I just want our guys to make a living. And have long, productive careers.
not surprise!
this ties in very very well with “i personally don’t care about national championships. I just want our guys to win the big 12 and break personal records”

That really is interesting. I guess Deron Williams was his only other all Star?
Deron Williams was Bruce Webbers All star. hahah…didn’t even realize it. Squeaky has the same number of all stars in nba as Bill Self.

Amazing! Congrats to Joel. His play this season has earned him this honor.
Agreed! Couldn’t be happier for Embiid.
He should have worn Wiggins jersey on the court like how AD wore cousins jersey! its as close as Wiggins will get to playing in the All star game IMO.
Bill self finally had one of his players in the All Star game. Finally…he can stand next to Calipari, Izzo, Coach K and claim all star status. oh the joy!!! i’m sooooooo excited. just imaging what this will do for recruiting. i mean we always get the top recruits, but now - we will get even the topper recruits. hallelujah!!!
Why are we not hanging banners for this??? Why are people not running across Lawrence screaming this at the top of their lungs???

Once again we have heard pretty much how the Big 12 is the toughest conference in the Nation - -the # 1 conference. Just read a pretty good article off ESPN also stating as much.
hmmm…so when did ESPN become credible? i thought from all the posts there ESPN is garbage and they have no clue and all they do is kiss UNC and Duke’s asses?
Big 12 the toughest conference? seriously? whatever you are smoking, i’ll have it. WVU is garbage team and they proved it again today…JFC…how many times can a team lose from having a double digit lead. OU on a losing streak…they sucked to begin with, just catching up. TT is nothing more than an anomaly. When it does matter, they will shit the bed. Everyone else just blows. Just becuase KU has a down year doesn’t automatically make the league tough. Give me a break…i’m tried of hearing this garbage. glad i don’t come on here much.
BIG 12 is and has been the most overrated conference. You can point to all the articles and stats…but history speaks other wise.

The greatest heroism is showing up and doing one’s duty, when seemingly hopelessly outnumbered. It is not going to one’s death without hope. It is searching for the path to victory that no one including one’s self can see. This is belief. Belief is the heroism of showing up hoping to find a way.
I am in awe of this team.
hmm…we lost 2 games in a row and then beat Omaha (which is ranked in the 200s last i checked). Guess it doesn’t take much to impress the fans here. Don’t recall our standards being his low…

I love that Duke is taken to the wire twice and that instilled the confidence in the voters to make them unanimous number 1.
i love how when KU gets taken to the wire, all KU fans are like “win is a win”, but when other teams go through that - suddenly, its all like “well, clearly they aren’t that good since they got take to the wire”. if i’m not mistaken, UK took us to the wire too and they are much worse than MSU. I would even say Texas is better than UK at this point. Given the powderpuff schedule we are playing, we really have no business harping on other teams wins/losses.

As much as I would’ve enjoyed the Dukies getting beat and as badly as Grayson just needs his a** kicked(despite being a pretty good player), i’m very content with us in the polls right here. Let them deal with the hype about being #1-while we just keep doing what we do- and even better with some extra bodies soon. April forecast looks very exciting with Wichita & Omaha just a short trip away for those first 2 weekends!
content with being #2? what are we - KSU? when did that happen. i thought KU fans strive for nothing less than #1? or or we content w/ being #2 given the streak continues?

LOL…on the same night…Wiggsy had just 11 pts. Tsk Tsk
Wiggins and Embiid are night and day! Embiid is truly the anti-wiggins
embiid is the anti-wiggins
Now, when someone mentions the streak in context of KU - they could also refer to the KU Football losing streak.
guys - this could be disastrous for KU Bball program and all the sunshine pumpers. Now, when they want to rub in the face of our lowly over hyped built up opponents, they can longer just say “the streak”. Instead, it now needs to be qualified by, e.g., “the bbal win streak” or “#12 straight” (or whatever the number is). As it is vocab of sunshine crew is very limited. this will surely create a great recruiting challenge as well. Bill self now will have to stray from his script as he pitches these new recruits.
not good!!!

@elpoyo Seriously, that is what you are stretching hard to find to put him down? You would be better off if you said he wrote his name funny in 5th grade or something.
I’m telling you, Wiggins stepped on Elpoyo’s foot one day and he’s holding a grudge forever.
oh…i’m holding a grudge alright…so should all of us…we got duped! Wigs gave less then 50% effort the whole time he was here…we should have made it to the FF that year! but he was too concerned about getting injured and protecting his draft status so we couldn’t even make it past stanford.
even sadder - all this and he is still worshiped like some god by the sheeple here
only took $148 million for Wiggins to do what he should be doing. too bad he didn’t get paid in college…we might have actually beat stanford
@KUSTEVE in the grand scheme of things, does it matter? like the past few years - we will: Win the B12; Extend the streak; Lose in the dance; Repeat.

Ok so let the arguement begin. Could UK, UNC, or Duke duplicate what KU has done these last 13 years? If UK, UNC, or Duke were in the Big 12 would they be on the cusp of setting the record for the most consecutive conference championships?
Duke, UNC, UK don’t care and that’s why they wouldn’t be able to replicate KUs streak. These programs have made it pretty clear- all they care about are championships and they make sure all their recruits know it also. Conf wins/streak is a nice to have, but, since Self is a steak guy, i use this analogy:
you go to a steak restaurant for the steak, not for the appetizers. Sure the appetizers help and the joint can have the best tasting appetizers consistently each and every day, but they will always (rightfully so) be judge on their steak.
DoubleDD said:
@Texas-Hawk-10 The Media doesn’t and won’t view the Big 12 as a good basketball conference.
That’s because the big 12 is not a good basketball conference. Outside of KU, its basically garbage.
Didn’t you know…we have 13 titles. I’ve bee asking the same question and i keep on being told by the Selfers on here we have 13 titles.
So, you can delete your thread.

TCU - - - -112 - - - Iowa State - - - -145- - - -WV- - - -156, now it starts getting crazy:- - - - Okla St- - - -527- - - -Real Crazy- - - - OU - - - - 845- - - - Kansas St- - - - 857- - -now just insane - - - - Texas- - - - 1244- - - - BU - - - - 1578- - - -TTU- - - - 3059
These last Three are just off the charts -totally crazy - -just goes to show add whole new definition to the word Dominence lol. – -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG

Actually, i already posted this on earlier threads! we need to avoid this like the plague. Just imagine the embarrassment if we lose (ala WSU). There is no way we would be able to live it down. There is nothing to gain here, and everything to lose. I say we steer clear and continue to pound on the big 12.

Bill Self couldn’t win the Big 10 and until he wins the national title again this all means nothing. He’s a choker … just beating @elpoyo to it; so now it’s said.
anything to end the worthless streak!!!
If we lose again in the 2nd round, will you say Bill has solved the Rubik’s cube then???
The point is Bill will have solved the Rubik’s cube once he wins a national championship!!! There’s no other way to look at it. Big 12 streak is cute, but its no championship. We can sit here and say he’s solved the rubik’s cube and give him his dues only for the hawks to falter early in the NCAA tourney!!

@REHawk Josh has handled his mistakes extremely well and should be an example to others. Who amongst us didn’t do something equally stupid when we were young.
Yes…kicking in car doors and trying to verbally assault women are everyday offenses for guys! boys will be boys afterall…you realize this is KU and not MU and KSU!!! our guys are held to a different standard ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE GOING TO BE THE TOP 1-3 PICKS IN THE NBA!!!
The image of Josh, his mom and his lawyer leaving Lawrence municipal court spoke volumes.
Yes, lets forget the fact that he had to hire a lawyer and go to court but instead, applaud him for having to follow the law!!!
Josh took responsibility for his offense, accepted the court’s punishment and now talks about how the anger management counseling has helped him.
Yes, he did take responsibility long after it was brought to light what he did. He didn’t voluntarily take responsibility.
I’M JUST SHOCKED!!! WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS BOARD!! ITS TURNING INTO THE PHOG. ALL WE ARE DOING IS MAKING EXCUSES AND COVERING UP FOR OUR GUYS…THIS IS TURNING STRAIGHT UP INTO A MIZZOU BOARD. OUR GUYS CAN DO NO WRONG!!! GIVE THEM MEDALS AND COOKIES AND IF ANY ONE DARE EVEN LIFT AN EYELID, ATTACK THEM. THIS IS FLAT OUT DISGRACEFUL.
KUSTEVE said:
@elpoyo Irreplaceable, huh? Your lack of faith doesn’t discourage anyone on here. However, your obsession with KU does speak volumes about our success. The best programs will naturally create bitter, jealous rivals. So in your case, it’s obviously working.

@elpoyo was probably saying Frank sucks before last year, just something to keep in mind.
nah…i was actually saying wiggins sucks!! hate that guy. wouldn’t even show up to the roundball classic…he doesn’t want jack$hit to do with KU. was always about himself and $$$$ and to top it off, his bro ain’t even coming here. Boy, he worked self good.
KUSTEVE said:
@elpoyo I disagree. Last year was a doughnut hole in the middle. That problem has been resolved. Not as much individual talent, but a much more balanced team, and a much better defensive team. I like our chances.
we lost frank mason! no one on this team can replace him. the only ku player who i think could was sherron.
if anyone on here thinks DG and Newman will be able to make up for the loss of mason…keep drinking the kool aid.
DoubleDD said:
This might be Coach’s best team ever. No really.

@elpoyo Oregon proved exactly this:

I guess Hudy will finally be worth the hoopla when she makes Humans into Super-Humans.
you mean super-humans*
DanR said:
@elpoyo: Hudy has about 40 NBA players (from UConn and KU) heaping praise on her non-stop when they aren’t coming back to Lawrence to train with her. She’s written a book, done some actual research, published several articles about her training philosophies and nutrition, and is a fantastic promoter for KU basketball (and herself) doing clinics and whatever else she can do to educate people. Are any MAN trainers doing that in BB? Honest question. Lots of legendary football/track coach/trainers. Does being female give her an advantage somehow? LOL. I doubt it, unless players don’t like getting their asses kicked by a woman.
Anyone following another (or third) college team closely can easily see the difference in physical development from first year to junior/senior year physically compared to KU’s players.
hmm…so players who you trained praise you…very objective.
Written books, published articles…all trainers do that especially at the top colleges. its how they progress in their field. i’m sure everyone on this board is closely following all the accolades of trainers @ UK and Duke…Give me a F’ing break.
“and about the difference in physical development from first year to junior/senior year physically compared to KU’s players” - again, this holds true in the big 12, but even if we didn’t have hudy, this would hold true.
The fact is each year, key players get injured, our guys are gassed towards the end of the year and we get bounced from the tourney because we run into more athletic teams…so tell me again howmuch of a diff is hudy making? she’s definitely good in her field which is why she’s at KU, but i’m just not seeing benefits more than any other trainer at any other program.
how is this a troll question? seriously…why is she any diff than any other athletic trainer? what sets her apart?
too many sheeple here…god forbid someone goes against the grain
maybe its just me…but i don’t really get what the hoopla is about Hudy? she’s a female??? is that it??? are our guys really that much stronger and athletic than the rest of the big 12? don’t need hudy to do that. but when compared the ncaa, not really. Oregon proved clearly otherwise.
What exactly has she done that has given her this status? outside of her being a female in mens college bbal program?
IDK…i’d rather not play them. last thing we want to do is play them like we did with WSU and lose. We can’t hang our heads high around shockers anymore…last thing we need is Fizzou fanboys constantly needling us.
we don’t have anything to gain and all to lose. i’d say no ways.
JayHawkFanToo said:
It is kind of sad that some of these kids see playing time as the ticket to the NBA. A elite program that helps them, improve the basics, even when it means less playing time, is a much better option but their fragile egos cannot accept they are not that good.
Yes…coming to an elite program worked out great for conner, andrew white, carlton, etc., etc.
i think its the fragile egos of our fans that cannot handle it.
KUSTEVE said:
@KUSTEVE I’m glad we didn’t sign him. He looked pretty one dimensional to me- a BG clone.
pretty one dimensional?? so why did KU show interested to begin with? so you’re telling me we’ve been recruiting one-dim crap all these years? no wonder we don’t win the tourney
Selden getting owned by spurs! someone needs to remind him this ain’t the big 12.
IDK…i’m not too excited by this pick up. Yea, Self will up coach them but the result will be the same with or with out them. We will win the big 12, streak continues and we will lose in the tourney.
Since when did we become ISU? With Self’s credentials, top 10 OADs should be raring to come to kansas. something doesn’t add up.
@DoubleDD said in Is March Maddness a Sham?: Maybe UK and Duke aren’t so wrong with selling their souls for the OAD’s?
And Self hasn’t sold his soul to OADs? come on now. With all the $hit going on with JJ, he basically said JJ was a great ambassador to the program? seems very calipari like.
All blue bloods are in the same bucket.
And March madness isn’t a sham, its the big 12 and the streak.
