If a KU team plays an exhibition game and there is 0 coverage,
did the game actually happen? Seriously, there is pretty much 0 coverage for these games. The only place to find any info is on the KU sites. National media has pretty much ignored it completely.
My nephew plays on the AAU circuit in Texas and he hasn’t even heard of the WUG.
The only coverage i’m seeing bball related is NBA and U19 USAB games.
Even more reason why Self needs to get past 2nd week in the tourney and get to a FF/championship. else this whole exercise of playing WUGs is moot.

No one in the Big 12 will have our depth? no kidding…that’s like the old chris rock line…you can’t be a dad and take pride in saying “i send my kids to school”…
we need to get past the big 12…else we will see #12, and an early round exit again…but if the majority are satisfied with that, then all this is moot.

As always, KU is the saving grace and for reason this season, is making all the other big 12 teams look a lot better.

this blows!
As i sat there and saw the first half of a terrible championship game, kept on thinking how we would have easily beat either of these 2 teams. So far, i was able to dissociate myself from our loss to Oregon and not let it get to me. but seeing the game last night, can’t help but see how we lost our golden chance. KU shit its bed when it mattered.
I really thought this was our year- i haven’t felt like that ever…even in 2008 i didn’t think we would win it all and we did…but this year was it. We were playing the elite 8 in our backyard and had a guaranteed ticket to the final 4 but Instead the BIG 12 screwed us over again.
KU was supposed to be battle tested. We had enough close come from behind victories against “good teams”, but we choked and why? this wasn’t on Self, he employed the same game plan he as all season and it worked for him all season, so why not? Again, the problem here is the vastly overrated big 12. Self’s game plan worked perfectly against Big 12 teams, but outside of that, it wasn’t.
BIG 12 sucks. KU needs to leave the BIG 12. while we are in the BIG 12, we will continue to extend the meaningless streak and will not win a championship.

umm…i’m not so sure about that. Bragg’s first choice was UK and once he didn’t get any attention from Cal, he chose his 2nd option.
Diallo was a lock for ISU till the mayor told him he wasn’t going to be back (that coupled with Abdelmassih leaving pretty much sealed the deal with KU).
to add to these, look at all the other transfers (hunter, graham, coleby…).
The kids are here and they will be playing for KU, so all the above is moot. but lets call it like it is.

RE: Tristan Thompson... tallest man on the court!
If it works in the NBA why can’t it work in college? Play small, play fast, win championships!
Its coaching and trusting your guards…other teams have tried it, but kerr’s using his players to their advantage. Self needs to pull a page from Kerr’s book and instead of trying to force players to play they way he thinks they should play, hone their abilities. We all know self get stubborn and falls in love with a player and will play him even after multiple bonehead plays.
with our line up + depth + experience, anything less than a FF is major disappointment and puts self on the hot seat.

RE: Wiggins
Cleveland/Lebron’s ultimate goal was to win a championship and take away the freak injury to love, i’m pretty sure they would have won it all. So, the trade was the right move esp since no one knew what they were getting with Wiggins.
i personally wouldn’t have done it and kept Wiggins- but for whatever reason- either Wiggin’s not so stellar performance while @ KU or maybe Chalmer’s really turned him off on KU…Lebron wanted to go the other direction.
I wouldn’t have done it, but can’t blame cleveland- they wanted to win and did what they thought was the right thing @ that point in time.
if they did win a championship, everyone on this board would be much quieter or singing a different tune.

RE: Interesting, sad Cliff read
I know i’ll get vilified for it, but i’m just surprised (well not really) how no one is pointing the finger at self? Cliff, through his handlers, messed up but prior to that, it was on self for not developing cliff more.
Self has to figure out his players, try to motivate them and help develop their game. To simply say Cliff was dumb and just couldn’t pick the game is bs. equally at fault is self who didn’t fully figure out Cliff’s other skill sets like his perimeter jump shot. Self tends to one-dimensionalize his players and it makes sense if this approach is being successful, but when it stops yielding results, time to change too.
sometimes, people on this board get so blinded with love for self, they automatically bash whoever says anything that’s even remotely questioning or criticizing self.
Self is a great coach, but he has his flaws too.

RE: Post Game Impressions of KU's Win at the Octogon of Silage
the sad part is, both times we played KSU, we barely beat them. Seriously…we should be stomping them by 20 regardless of home court or not. Don’t give me BS like they are legit and are tough at home.

The image of Josh, his mom and his lawyer leaving Lawrence municipal court spoke volumes.
Yes, lets forget the fact that he had to hire a lawyer and go to court but instead, applaud him for having to follow the law!!!
Josh took responsibility for his offense, accepted the court’s punishment and now talks about how the anger management counseling has helped him.
Yes, he did take responsibility long after it was brought to light what he did. He didn’t voluntarily take responsibility.
I’M JUST SHOCKED!!! WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS BOARD!! ITS TURNING INTO THE PHOG. ALL WE ARE DOING IS MAKING EXCUSES AND COVERING UP FOR OUR GUYS…THIS IS TURNING STRAIGHT UP INTO A MIZZOU BOARD. RE: Breaking Wooden
Do recruits outside of Kansas really care about the streak? seriously…when has any recruit said i want to go and win big 12 ship and extend streak? nada…all recruits say is they want to win championships. This is why Duke constantly keeps on getting top recruits. As much as i hate to say it, Coach K is considered the gold standard in college bball and he doesn’t have close to the conf streak we do. Again - national titles. that’s what stands out! As much as we like to downplay the tourney as a crapshoot, it is the official measure of the ncaa greatness.
The streak is something we propelled to exponential importance because as KU fans, we don’t have anything else to cling to. we feel it keeps us relevant when in reality it is nothing more than a “dick size” contest with other teams in the big 12. Yea, we can brag to KSU, ISU, WVU, etc. but that’s about it.
I know a lot of you disagree with this thinking, but the same bunch also say the big 12 is the toughest conference when in reality it is not.

Some twitter link was a link to his twitter account where he picked kansas to win it all (no problems there), but singled out UK by picking Manhattan to beat UK and even circled Manhattan. Seriously, he fills 1/4th of his bracket and then picked UK to lose in the first round to Manhattan and you think that doesn’t mean anything? Clearly something was off and its obvious he was peeved at UK and even posters on KU boards said he was big on UK, but they cooled off him and he apparently didn’t like that.

True, but take love out, and put wiggins in…with Kyrie’s injury, Wiggins playing time would have increased dramatically in the playoffs…and the experience he would have gotten…playoffs and the finals- you can’t recreate that and even with Kyrie out and wiggins in, Cavs chances of winning it all become very very doable. IMO they would have won the playoffs with that setup

RE: 4 YEAR SENIORS VS OAD'S
to be able to win with OAD’s, you can’t be stubborn. you have to be able to go with the flow and model your team/plan to the strengths of your OADs.
Self, IMHO, is not going to be successful with OADs (as UK or Duke have been) because he is just too damn stubborn. we have seen it over and over again. he’s just not willing to change or try certain things until its too late. Classic example is the game against MI when BMac should have been in the 2nd half- instead he was on the bench and Self went with his EJ- probably one of his worst coaching decisions to date. We had no business losing that game. still hurts!

Embiid’s ceiling is much greater than Conner’s; as @dylans expressed best, Embiid has the potential to be a national treasure. Embiid’s work ethic is greater, his contributions to the team were greater, his sense of humor was greater, among other things.
Of course, we’re fans and the personal story makes us root for the guy who played behind Dakari Johnson in high school, but exploded onto the national stage for us after playing only 3 years of basketball and was breathtaking before injury. I like that guy over the guy who struggled at Kansas on and off the court and transferred to Wichita State because he thought that’s a better opportunity for him. Not that I hate on Conner for that, it’s just not a compelling story at all.
There’s no double standard that I see here. Conner just wasn’t as likeable a Jayhawk as Embiid.
National treasure? LMAO… i know he’s a KU favorite, but lets not blow $hit out of proportion.
you mention injury’s for Embiid…Conner was injured too, but because he isn’t so high profile, KUsports didn’t dedicate posts and posts about it.
and its ok for Embiid to leave KU for a better opportunity in the NBA vs Conner seeking a better opportunity else where?
Conner was a much better athlete/player…he was severely mis managed; One of the biggest knock on Self used to be he one-dimensionalizes players. I used to not believe it at all, but not so sure know. Conner showed a glimpse of what he’s capable of at the end of the Stanford game. Bill Self knew he messed up with Conner because he didn’t place any restrictions on where conner could go…he said himself.
Conner not as likeable as a jayhawk? why because he didn’t make tons of stupid twitter posts and constantly act like a child? did you even know conner personally or ever met him or his parents? I have and can guarantee they are much nicer people than where you come from.
Its funny how like the Beiber fans (beliebers) and Beyonce fans ( BeyHive), the Selfers continue to blindly promote and support Self without ever actually realizing what they are doing or what they stand for.
hey, keep it at i guess.

Nothing is wrong with that you said above. all i’m saying is, we’re much better than thumping our chests when comparing ourselves to the rest of the little 12. it sickens me when our fans make statements .
instead, why can’t we not say “neither duke or UK will have our depth”…
Also, there is a growing sentiment among KU fans that they are simply satisfied with big 12 streak and chalk an early round exit to “oh well- the tournament is too hard to win” or “the tourney doesn’t matter…its the streak”. I think this is nothing but baloney. Don’t see the fire in the fans and the coaching staff that i used to see. It seems as though an early round exit is more probable than a deep tourney run.

cept’ it ain’t doing jack shit for our recruiting. no recruit comes to KU saying “wow…look at the streak”. NCs is all that matter. We can continue to be a big fish in the little BIG12 pond, or we can go out and try to become more relevant and hang with duke and uk.
Not to mention the apparent refereeing favoritism that is painfully evident when refs swallow their whistles every time ( seemingly ) that KU gets fouled intentionally. Was any whistle blown when Perry got his nose bashed in? Dont think so. Ok, so thats not an NCAA game but still, you get my point I hope.
Was a whistle blown when BG bashed Niang’s head in causing it to bleed? I can’t imagine you being all up in arms about that? We all think our players get called for fouls intentionally. to say stuff this like and why it only happens to KU is totally bush league.

RE: TOP 15 COLLEGE BASKETBALL TEAMS SINCE 2000.
i would put Florida as my top because they did what is extremely hard to do- repeat! Winning one title is hard, winning multiple titles (not back to back) is even harder, and winning back to back titles is, IMO, the hardest thing to do.

The deal wiht Bolden is he don’t care what school he goes to. He just wants to go somewhere where he gets playing time and its a blueblood ( I call this the Wiggins principle).
If he really liked a school, he would have committed by now.
Given the state we are in, we don’t really have options but if we did- i’d say skip out on these players. They only have one thing on their mind- NBA and never really get emotionally attached to the school. These type of players will help dominate the Big 12, but fizzle out in the tournament.
