84-66. You’ll have to trust me on this - I do have an 82% winning percentage picking KU games.
Well you prediction % just took a major hit with making that kind of prediction - -how’s your day working for ya man lol

@jayballer73 Say what? I pick the winner of KU games at 82%, which happens to be Coach Self’s winning percent. In other words, I pick KU to win every game. I just threw the final score out there because I want us to kick Dook’s ass. My final score predictions pretty much suck overall so I don’t track those ( although I have come within 1 or 2 points of the final score on a few occasions). I only track the stat that makes me look good. BTW, the NCAA penalties, if we get busted, will not kick in until at least 2020/2021 :

I always wondered how Duke fans were made.

They’re made in test tubes in New Jersey.

Duke has an acceptance rate of 8.6%. That means their basketball players are elite students. We should be impressed by them.
I’m not impre$$ed.

Little secret: a lot of students (including basketball players) take intro classes at NC Central, a HBCU in Durham.
-
@wissox Common misconception. Their athletes have different academic standards.

This article is old but afaik still accurate.

What, you’re telling me that athletes get preferred treatment to get into an elite academic institution that they otherwise would have no chance at gaining entry, just because they get an athletic scholarship?
Hmmm.
-
@HighEliteMajor just because it’s private vrs state college? Am I reading that right?

I don’t think that’s it.
From the article:
It’s a world-class private institution with the admissions flexibility of, say, a state school.
I think he’s saying that while you’d expect private institutions to have very rigid high standards of excellence in academics, Duke in fact has very flexible admissions standards, similar to what you might expect at a state school.
-
@approxinfinity I’m aware of the different standards. It used to crack me up. There was this big doofus I taught that had one attribute Duke liked. He was 6’5" and 300 pounds! I used to see recruiting letters for him from Duke. Used to crack me up because Nick barely graduated, had to beg for extra work the week before graduation just so he could pass my class! I will say, he grew up a lot (not physically!) and ended up playing football at Memphis and actually graduated college so he pulled it together!

Yes and no. Private schools have a lot of leeway in who they accept and why. State schools less so. Stanford doesn’t take academic exceptions, dook does because they can stash the kid at NCCU for any “hard” classes. To my knowledge, UNC cannot make exceptions for people who wouldn’t get in otherwise. I know it’s been a frustration for Roy over the years.

I gotcha. Thanks guys

I gotchu. The private vs. public thing is super interesting in athletics.
-
@rockchalkwyo The comment by @approxinfinity was the point I was making a touch sarcastically … again, the great benefits many kids get.
-
Anybody up this way going to see KU beat Duke? I’ll be there. NYC has an active alumni fan base that meets at the Cornerstone Tavern on 50th Street and 2nd Avenue.
-
Bumping this to say dook only beat noted juggernaut Northwest Missouri State 69-63 and shot a sterling 2-16 from 3. Only guys that hit were Stanley and walk-on Justin Robinson. Jones and Hurt both 0-3, Moore 0-4, Carey 0-1 and didn’t play much due to foul issues. Exhibition disclaimers apply but we could rek them next week.
-
I read an article about the game, a real doom and gloom on why Mark Williams should look elsewhere with no “surefire OAD’s” on the team. Yikes. Hopefully we can flex on them in a week
-
I was looking at their roster over the weekend, and I know the Freshman are talented and highly rated but I don’t see a ton of talent on that roster. They will be 7 deep maybe 8 and Tre Jones is going to have to be nearly perfect every game for them to win. ( against a decent opponent) Vernon Carey will be able to bully a lot of teams with his size, but not against Doke.
I doubt we blow them out, but I will be pretty dissapointed if we don’t win this game.
-
@FarmerJayhawk Apparently Vernon Carey Jr. has problems being engaged and giving 100% effort all the time. I’d bet he’ll be better against Kansas, just because he’ll be more excited to play against us than he was to play Northwest Missouri St.
Here’s the box score: https://goduke.com/documents/2019/10/26//Duke_NWMS_Box_Score.pdf
I’m a little worried about De Sousa guarding Hurt if that match-up happens. I know Hurt was 0-3 from 3, but he was 8-16 from the field overall, and Kansas has a pretty long and depressing history of opponent’s big-men deciding to transform into Steph Curry when they play against us.
I’m not sure Duke wants Tre Jones taking 15 shots a game. A few of the freshman are going to have to step up and handle the scoring load for Duke to be elite this season.
