2019 Recruiting
-
I am sure their recent success is opening doors to players previously unavailable. The question is, will it result in higher ranked players that leave earlier and ruin the system that has proven to be successful with older, more experienced players?

Both of these guys fit their model to a T. Dixon a borderline Top 100 guy and Moore a Top 60 ish kid that missed a year due to injury. That’s their sweet spot
With the recent success they are involved with higher ranked kids though in 19 & 2020 classes. They may not land any but they definitely have their foot in the door where they didn’t before

Nova continues to run laps on people in recruiting. 2 4 star commits already. Moore the latest, a Top 60 guard with size. Can only imagine he’ll become the latest great from there in time
I just assume he will redshirt and play insane defense and shoot threes at a 40%+ clip by his JR year.
Automatic lock. Its the water I’m telling you

Also Brunson was very highly ranked and stayed 3 years.
Both these guys fit the mold for sure. I mean the one kid is a 6’6’’ center. That’s vintage Jay Wright right there.
The Arizona mess gifted them JQ who I think is right there after the top tier of PGs in this class. I’m not sure I see a single OAD PG in this class tbh. Quickley might be because Kentucky. It’s ridiculous that Tre Jones is the #1 PG by some services. But whatever, Dotson can just prove it on the court.

Brunson, just a different cat. Agreed.
Definitely JQ was gifted. He’ll be there a few years too, maybe 3 LOL.
Quickley, Garland are the two most likely OAD’s I think. Still I wouldn’t trade Dotson for any of them, I’ve thought that since last summer. Jones is being recruited over so he might not have a choice.
KU arguably landed the best College PG (Dotson) and best Pro potential PG (Grimes)
-
@BeddieKU23 Well if Wright gets a third year out of JQ I just assume he will at worst be in the FF again that year.
Agree. There will be some number of OADs just because. Quickley and Garland feel like good candidates. I can’t imagine any of the top players Vandy got sticking around more than 1 year.
That depends on if you view Grimes as a PG or not. I think long term and in the NBA he wants to be a PG but I also think it’s very likely he is only at KU one year and never has primary ball handling responsibilities.

I think Grimes will be a NBA PG but that could change after we see him at KU. My view of him right now is he’d make a heck of a PG at the next level with his size and skill. For KU I think its exciting knowing he has the skills to run the team if needed and will be a valuable secondary option to have

What’s the latest on five-star 2019 big man Onyeka Okongwu. Well looks like he’s throwing us a hopeless bone. Imagine he won’t even visit.
How’s the recruiting process going? It’s going really good. I’m leaning towards USC, UCLA, Washington, Kansas.
So it’s those four? Yeah.
What’s the next step in this process? I will go on a couple of official visits.
Do you know when you will start doing those? Probably late summer.
What do you like about USC? USC, I have always been a Trojan fan since I was a little kid, close to home, I like the way they play basketball too, I like the way they do their offense and defense, just the basketball is my type of style. I like the coaching staff, I’m really close with them.
What about UCLA? UCLA has been known to bring a lot of NBA players out of their college, that’s the main thing and their close to home as well.
What do you like about Kansas? Kansas is one of the best college basketball schools ever, there have been a lot of talent and a lot of NBA prospects. Washington, I have really grown close with their coaching staff.
Does Eric Mobley being on staff at USC and you playing AAU with his brother intrigue you? It’s pretty interesting. Me and Isaiah have a great chemistry together but at the end of the day I have always loved USC to begin with.

Where are you going to 100% commit to: UCLA
Guess they left that one out.

@BShark USC*
-
He is staying on the West Coast; unlikely he comes to Kansas. I would say USC or UCLA

Oh interesting I thought he was part of some UCLA AAU pipeline. I could be thinking of someone else though.
-
Just thought it was funny why even list ku.
-
@BeddieKU23 Yep. Completely pointless.
-
Lots of prospects list KU, they probably think it makes it look like KU is interested and raises their value when in reality KU is not interested at all.

Not the case here. KU would take him if he were willing to leave the wc.
-
I was note referring to that specific prospect but many others, much lower ranked, that routinely add elite programs for self-aggrandizing reasons.

Agree. Andre Rafus and some kid that committed to Rutgers are recent examples.

Very contentious one this is shaping up to be. Hope we get pursuing

@BeddieKU23 I would assume Baylor, Michigan, KU, Marquette, Oklahoma, not sure on 6th school.
Notice a theme here? Though Michigan switched recently iirc.
-
KU offered: https://247sports.com/Player/Kira-Lewis-46035371
Stock piling PGs for @jayballer73
-
Some notes: he absolutely blew up this recent AAU session. Speculation is he will move up into the 40-50 range.
-
@BShark from what I read today sounds like Michigan is a pretty heavy leader right now. Was suppose to be meeting with him - haven’t offered yet but it’s coming - - -just kind of sounds like he is pretty heavy on Michigan

“It’s always great getting an offer from a coach like Bill Self. He’s proven himself time and time again, winning and also putting guys in the pros. Kansas is a great school overall!” -Lewis on KU

Nike has pushed Okoro to Oregon.

Tyrese Maxey committed to UK and will stay in the 19 class.

Yippeeee
All but confirms Haggans goes to 18 to get his one year in

Ku is at #3

KU only has Jacobs so far and th rest is just smoke at this time and the same is true for most of the teams in the list. Until a player signs a LOI nothing is certain, Ayton comes to mind, and even then, the prospect can always decomit.

Yeah kind of silly to even do an article like this now. KU is very well positioned for Hurt and JRE but who knows if the FBI spectre will keep haunting KU…

Made Antoine’s final 5 lol
-
@BShark I thought R.J. to duke was a done deal.

Agreed, but KU basketball content is in a slow period. I would greatly appreciate if you/others would post links as well (like @bshark et al) to satiate my appetite for KU news, even if it’s fabricated.

The four-star guard said he hopes to begin to whittle his list down after the AAU season and he doesn’t have a date in mind for his commitment. However, asked if he wants to take some kind of a visit to KU, Lewis did respond: “Yes sir.”
“I’ve heard it’s one of the best places for basketball,” Lewis said of Kansas. “I heard it’ll be sold out.”
But basketball won’t be the only factor driving his decision.
Lewis said he’ll be considering a number of things with his college choice, including education and the comfort he feels on campus. He said the largest factor in his recruitment will come down to the relationships he’s able to build with the various staffs and players before he moves away from his family.
Certainly those familial ties are plenty strong — and present — in his recruitment.
“It’s real close,” Lewis said of his relationship with his mother, Natasha. “It’s my mom. She knows everything about me. She had me in her stomach for nine months.”
She might know everything about her son’s recruitment, too.
Natasha told 247Sports she has made it a point to try to talk to every coach that interacts with Lewis. The process, one she called busy yet rewarding, has kept her hands full, but she’s still found the time to enjoy it all.
“I’m very proud of Kira,” Natasha said. “What I’m most proud of is his humility. He’s humble, he doesn’t let that get to him. He’s always been taught to earn things, nothing is given in life.”

Seems the KU offer threw a wrench in Tre Mann’s recruitment. It was looking like he would decide between UT and UF pretty quickly before that.
-
@BShark Sounds like your 100% correct. - -Sounds like he is very intrigued about KU - - saying that they are right there in his three. - -KU - - - Florida - -& Tennessee , before the KU offer said or sure sounded like he was focusing on Florida and Tennessee then KU entered the picture.
Yet though ANOTHER PG - - -lol - - -I’m sure glad Coach knows what he is doing - - I know it’s not the case but man it just looks like he is recruiting right over the top of Jacobs. - -The question is I think how serious we are in him cause we sure are in his interest.
Then sounds the same with Samuel Williamson. - Sounds to me we have his interest for sure - -plus with his mother a graduate from here & then his brother graduating last year from here - -sounds like a plus for us, - -can’t hurt that’s for sure. - -Sounds like both for sure want to make that Visit to KU might be interesting.

Lewis is a PG too. Staff probably read the tea leaves with RJ Hampton.
Williamson should be a Hawk…

So when is Coach K going to croak? That old suckers gotta hear the demons scratching at the earth just beneath his feet.

One time KU target Marcedus Leech who plummeted down rankings after many injuries committed to ISU. It’s not listed on any of his profiles though, so idk what the deal is.
"Marcedus Leech, a 2019 wing from Poplar Bluff, Mo., recently announced his commitment to Iowa State in a Snapchat post. Leech was a borderline five-star recruit after his freshman season of high school but has struggled to remain healthy. He’s suffered from a stress fracture in his shin and a broken foot.
An athletic scorer with a lot of upside, Leech had the likes of Kansas, Missouri, Florida State and LSU on his radar before picking Iowa State. He’s taken visits to Kansas, Kentucky and Missouri among others and could reignite interest from other schools even after his commitment if he can show he’s the same player from before the injuries.
-
Offer to keep an eye on. Combo forward Jaden McDaniels. Moved up 80(!) spots in the 247 rankings up to number 10.
