Darryn Peterson

Very disappointing
-
Team energy noticeably increased from the rest of the guys when they realized he wasn't coming back in...
-
Listening to Self post game and he didnât sound too pleased with the situation. Said he thought we were past this and he was a full go. Talked about how in the tournament we need our best players on the floor to win against good teams.

Thatâs kinda the issue I have is we get better play from others when he isnât on the floor at times. Such a weird situation. Like I said I was pleased with the first half from him. We have just got to to figure out how to get two halfâs like that out of him. We are quickly running out of time.
-
@kjayhawks2.0 Because he probably thinks DP can play through it. His camp doesn't. I don't blame Bill for being tired of it. Who's ever seen a player who can't play an entire half because of cramps.
-
I think all good teams have some tension. Its like gluten holding together a good bread, sometimes the taste is worth the negatives. Its how you manage that tension that makes a team ordinary or great. So far we get an A for how weâve managed it. Tension is like sand to a oyster, ya dig?
-
We just have to hope when the season is on the line he is a full go similar to a Remy Martin situation. @approxinfinity I give a ton of credit to Self and this team for how they have handled it. Would be very easy for a a teammate to call him out publicly and in practice.
-
I say with how my mind works right or wrong if we continue down this path and get bounced in the first weekend yet again while DP plays sparingly. Would we have been better off getting a Flamings, Brown Jr, Wagler or Acuff Jr. instead of DP? Those guys are out there playing every game and good players all projected lottery picks.

If he doesn't play much and we get bounced the first weekend? Yeah, I think we confidently say we would have been better off putting our chips in on someone else.
Personally, I still wouldn't trade DP for any of them though. He fits this team well and gives us the best chance at a championship. I would maybe feel differently if the rest of the team gave off indications that DP coming in and out of the lineup bothered them. You can tell Bill is frustrated as all hell but the vibes with everyone else seem good still.
-
As of right now I would trade DP for any of the other elite freshmen in the country. But he's what we've got so we just have to hope for the best

Mercy , Peterson is getting absolutely fried on a round table discussion this morning by Jay Williams and others. Thing is with their discussion I wouldn't even be able to defend Peterson because these guys make very good points , they all say he is hurting his stock.
Hi light of some of things said when talking about Peterson : Was said by one , As a GM of an NBA team my question would be -- --How can I trust you ? I CAN'T TRUST YOU , other things being said were like when Bill saying he thought we were good to go and they needed all their players ready { you can tell Bill is really frustrated } these guys were saying Coach needs to get this stopped get on Petersons ass saying look if you can't be on the floor then were done , we thank you for what you HAVE done but we can't continue to do this , we will not be continuing the back half of what you were being paid , they said if they don't get this stopped then your going to be getting others players that want to come to KU and try pulling the same BS
They said that Ku has 13/14 other players in that locker room players that ARE stepping up but wondering what the hell. , talking about usually when a players has cramps , ham string , flu you will see expression on the players face a look like DAM I want / need to be on the floor actually wanting to be on the floor. They had one guy that said his question to Peterson would be does he really love the game . They said if Darryn is like this why didn't he just sit out the year and get ready for the draft, but nooo Darryn wants to collect some paper along the way , he is bored, saying Darryn has an agenda and College Basketball is not on his agenda. -they said he is getting information from someone and it's not good. They said you look at AJ B, from BYU what's he doing ? he is out on the floor ballin- --what's Acuff doing ? he is on the floor ballin , What's Philon doing ?-- on the floor ballin, What's Booze doing? out on the floor ballin. Yet there is Darryn doing ? -- He is tellin the Coach take me out or I'm coming out. This is totally out of hand-- he actually is hurting the team more then helping because you never know for sure when and for how long he will play.

I mean, this is a pickle.
That Okie St. game was the true high and low for fans. After watching his first half performance, yer like, F yea, Iâve never seen a freshman in my lifetime play as effortlessly and smooth as DP! Heâs awesome. Title town!
Then the second half your jaw drops in shock and disbelief: cut this @#$&ing guy! He canât be counted on. What an embarrassment!
Before last night I had come to terms with it, thinking it is what it is.
Now he seems manipulative and slimy.
I wonât be sad when he moves on.
-
National media is absolutely ripping him apart today. That's why this thing is so weird to me. Other than preserving him from injury(and he still plays part of the game anyway, so what does that do) this cramp thing is ruining his perception to the general population.
-
I'd kick him off the team. Coach can simply say we're shutting him down for his health. Does two things. 1 makes him accountable to himself. He'd probably move out of town the next day and he might actually learn from it. He might sit there and say dang, what have I done? Sucks for us fans but I'd say this has sucked for us fans a lot as expectations were sky high. 2 It may serve as a catalyst for the remaining players who have proven they can play and win against quality teams without him.
-
The above comments are why itâs such a weird situation. If plays like he did if the first half last night or against BYU. You can say this kid is a key piece to us doing anything in March. Then you watch the ISU road game, the Utah game when he played a good number of minutes but did nothing. Some part of me is thinking not to worry that he is going to uncork some crow pie of epic proportions come March with all the mainstream hate he has seen these last few weeks.

yea, therein lies the rub, huh.
If he's truly, truly hurt, then it would be hard to give him the boot. But if it's all smoke and mirrors, that's a different story.
We'll never know!

-
@rockchalkjayhawk Yes of course we truly don't know but Selfs reaction when he made the shot right in front and turned around kind of told that side of the story. He reacted like he was pissed.
It's interesting that Acuff's historic 49 points last night came 2 days after a protective boot coming off his ankle.

There is also videos of Caleb Wilson warming up and still practicing with UNC. As well as him saying he is playing in March no matter what. I think that watching DP play at times he obviously has had some ailments. But he seems to not want ti play thru them at all. Cramps are something most players go thru and play thru at some point in their careers. Jay Williams said on espn itâs looks as simple as he flat out doesnât have any desire to be here and play the college game. This is why the OAD rule is silly, it really doesnât change anything other than you are holding a guy against his will at a lower level.
-
The whole "cramps" excuse seems like complete BS. If it were just that you would see medical staff working on his leg and you would think he would be back on the court after working on it and fluids. Think about the top tennis players in the world - guys on the court for as many as 4-5 hours. Regularly have to work through cramping. Get a medical timeout, eat a banana, get hydrated, then back on the court slugging it out. Peterson is not a more finely-tuned athlete than Alcaraz, Djokovich, Sinner and others...

@kjayhawks2.0 hahaha. Crow pie of epic proportions incoming, totally. Guess that makes us both optimists about this thing, probably by necessity!
