ok Big 12 / SEC challenge

  • @BShark TAM seems to be worse since going to the SEC. They were actually competitive in the B12.

  • I want to ask Kruger why he didn’t resort to fouling bama with a small single digit lead. Almost identical to the KU game.

  • @truehawk93 I’m not a fan either. Can’t shoot and all his advanced numbers are pretty bad. TCU will be better by subtraction when he graduates. They also lose their two best players Vlad Brod and Kenrich Williams. I think they might mostly stay the same next year.

    😠

  • I thought tcu looked really good last game, forgot who they played

  • Wish u all were here

  • @Crimsonorblue22 I was at the OU game in Norman. I live in the OKC area. I was sick after that game and PISSED at Kruger.

I don’t care what people say. Yes you can foul and yes intentionally, but again, didn’t say much for his coaching or his team’s ability. He was flat beat too.

  • Big XII looking overrated again… Going to take an OSU upset to win the challenge. Lucky Auburn didn’t replace Georgia or Ole Miss. Could be looking at a 4-6 record.

All of the statisticians put too much weight into the beginning of the season non-con records. Easy way to check who has the most talent is to check the most NBA players getting produced. Kansas has produced 16 of he conferences 33 NBA players. Compare that to Duke and the ACC. Duke has 20, but the rest of the ACC produced 69 NBA players. Kentucky has produced 27, but the rest of the SEC still has produced 21.

What this says to me, the Big XII has a good non-con because they have more experience every season. We keep players for 4 years. So we have the advantage at the beginning of the season against less experienced teams from other conferences. But, come March, other teams have leap-frogged the Big XII.

It isn’t hard to see the Big XII is not as talented as other conferences. A team should never win 13 conference championships in a row. That alone speaks to the strength of a conference.

  • DG slumping a bit?

  • Refs missed an easy travel. Probably won’t matter, but just terrible.

SEC teams might not always be great basketball/skill teams, but they ALWAYS have top athletes. Something the B12 can often be lacking outside of typical KU teams and a few guys here and there.

  • A&M torching the nets in the 2nd half. Harder to play post D w/ no Doke.

  • @BShark Still waiting for this team to find that ability to stomp on it’s opponents throat.

Doke sitting with foul trouble is going to be a problem every game. This team has to find a way to push through that. Whether it be DG just getting a killer instinct or switching to a 5 guard lineup where we REALLY stretch the floor and make the defense guard. Something has to happen.

Or, you know if Garrett can become a threat offensively that completely changes the dynamic of this team when Doke goes out.

If this is a close conference game Doke is already back in imo.

  • @BShark This has been a pretty loosely called game though. Doke could have easily been in foul trouble 5 minutes into the game.

  • Fall down it’s an automatic foul

  • @Kcmatt7 Yeah. I mean of course I’d like the team to be better when Doke isn’t in there. This team just might not have the horses though. Being so thin means heavy minutes for all our top guys. Imagine if we signed Ayton instead of Preston…

  • Friendly reminder that KU was Tyler Davis’s dream school.

  • @BShark Even Mitchell Robinson… Would have gotten cleared after Braxton Beverly did the same thing to transfer to NC State.

Can’t blame him though. By all appearances, his draft stock hasn’t dropped at all.

  • 11 pt lead with 6:00 mins? Here we go…foul time…hahaha

  • Doke FT= DUNK…haha FOUL THIS

  • DG in a little slump, but better this game than the next.

  • GIve TAM credit for fighting and hanging.

  • Guys closing out fairly well…

  • I was going to complain about this big guy hitting 2 threes but he is a very respectable 35% on the year.

  • Take care of ball, manage clock, and make FT

  • Malik went sky high for that rebound. I like where his head is at right now.

  • Newman 1-2 FTs and Graham loses ball…ok…fortunately the lead allowed the miss and the TO.

  • Graham with the smart thought to not take that turnover LOL

  • Freaky low scoring game in Ames, weird…Not the Clowns we play and know

  • Let’s see what WVU can do against UK

  • I am supportive of a “Go Fund Me” account to send @Crimsonorblue22 to all remaining home games!

Tennessee is a top 10 Kenpom team with the #12 adjusted defense. ISU is young. Bad combo.

  • Great game for UVA in Cameron…great win

  • @BShark If #22 can go into Ames and win like that, what will KU do at around #5?

  • Probably have a really close game.

  • What’s the conference challenge score right now?

  • @truehawk93 KU should’ve stomped ISU in AFH but didn’t, it’s never easy on the road if you’re Kansas especially in Ames.

  • Yep…mystery why KU can’t take care of business. Actually even with the loss at OU, they have been playing on the road fairly well.

  • @truehawk93 we have played better on the road than at home to this point. Even at OU we controlled about 25 minutes of the game and crapped it away at the line.

  • Faylor - L

    TCU - L

    ISU - L

    OU - L

    KU - W

    KSU - W

    UT - W

    TT - W

Need Pokes and WVU to get wins.

  • @truehawk93 The most disappointing performance was TCU…Vandy was like 7-13 for gosh sakes.

  • WVU just putrid on offense for awhile now.

  • TCU should have won, OSU had several chances to win and could not score, two critical TOS by Young handed the game to Alabama. West Virginia desperately trying to give the game away with a little help from the refs; two of the fouls on Konate were pure BS, even Bilas took a time out from sucking up to UK to criticize the refs.

  • @truehawk93 OSU lost and WVU may go down. And, it’s not just that the B12 may go 4-6 against the SEC (at best 5-5) - it’s arguably worse than that. ISU and Baylor got absolutely spanked. TCU lost to a lousy Vandy team. OU lost to an average Alabama team. Not a single B12 win was a dominant - TX and KU the biggest margins.

The question is what does this augur for the tournament? I know there is a lot of passionate debate about this, but this notion that the B12 is the best conference (by Kenpom or RPI) is flawed - the B12 is the most balanced conference, and there are no bad teams (ISU on the brink). And, the B12 teams had a great non-conference record, but it was primarily a function of avoiding any bad losses and picking up a lot of solid wins.

The problem is that year in and year out, the B12 teams do not consistently play and beat the better teams from the power 5 conferences. This year was no exception (the exception being WVU’s win over UVA (their only loss)).

I very much hope I’m wrong, but my fear (and prediction) is that yet again the B12 teams will significantly underperform in the tournament (absolutely and relative to seedings). Happy to eat crow if that doesn’t turn out to be the case…

  • @DCHawker To me the only truly surprising result was TCU Vandy.

  • I don’t think anyone has said there is a big time FF contender in the big 12. KU, WVU and perhaps Texas Tech have an outside chance but are realistically S16/EE teams at best. Like you said, it’s a balanced league with no truly terrible teams.

  • The argument for the B12 being the best conference will take a hit regardless of if WVU can beat UK. The SEC is probably the 4th best conference. I hoped we would win the challenge as a conference but I care more about what happens in Lawrence to be honest.

  • I only care that KU won today.

  • Kentucky should win this now tbh.
