Guys I' need some info - -I'm confused
-
needing some information please. - Me personally I would love to see Vick and Doke both come back next year you know? - -But that is just not possible is it? - -I mean with the players we already have coming back - -the new players we have coming in , the transfers that will be eligible , - -there is just no way for them to come back is there? - Wouldn’t we be WAY over the limit?
I think there would be more of a chance for Vick to return now because of the swoon he is in – -Doke is nowhere close to being ready - but what they gonna do? - -I still thinks swoon or not Vick will go. - -BUT what if they wanted to? - -I just can’t see where there is any way they could no openings - Am I just totally off on this or what? - Someone enlighten me please. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

@Jayballer54 If only the seniors leave we have 10 returning scholarship players. We have 3 incoming freshman. All of the scholarships are used. However from a scholarship standpoint no one has to leave.
-
Billy leaving freed up the last scholarship, so nobody has to leave early unless Langford commits.
-
At this point I am in favor of mushing Cunliffe for Agbaji.
Also I still think Newman is leaving for sure.

Or Langford!

So if only Graham & SVI left ? - - so Doke and Vick would still be able to have their Scholi without it taking extra away? - -bottom line they could return without it making an over load and we still would have the spots for our 3 incoming freshmen and possibly Langford?

If Langford wants to join someone has to leave. We probably won’t have that issue I think.
-
Bottom line: we have 12 players now. 2 are definitely leaving. That makes 10. We have 3 signed. That makes 13 without anyone leaving. If someone did (Malik) then KU has room for a Langford or Ogbaji.

Someone would have to leave other then SVI or Graham right? - -so like Newman - -Doke - - or Vick would have to leave for there to be a room for Langford - not looking at position - -just so there would be a scholi available right?

Thank you - I posted again before I read your response - -I appreciate that. - -I think there will be one other leave anyways so that means we should still have room if Langford wants to climb aboard

Yeah the roster should work itself out at season’s end. Even if everyone wanted to return I’m not sure that’s what would happen if the staff had Romeo’s commitment on the line. These things always work themselves out. Romeo starts here if he comes. I think its more about who leaves that’s possibly in his way

I agree totally. - I just don’t see anyway that Romeo doesn’t start from day one if he were to commit. - Like you said though - I think bottom line , it all hinges on Vick.
It’s hard for me cause I waver back and forth with this , I know what Vick is capable of - - we have all seen it , when he is on , aggressive love it. - -When he plays that way as hard as it is to say , I think it would be hard not to chose him because of game experience and Senior leadership. But then again if he were to keep playing like that , really good chance he would declare for the NBA anyways.
Then on the other hand if he were to continue with the type of play we have seen recently? - -I would just as soon see him go and we take Romeo ,BUT if Vick were to finish the season like he is playing now , chances are he would be coming back - -so it’s kind of a damn if you do - -damn if you don’t.
Yet if Vick gets it turned back around and Continues to play well BUT yet still wants to come back for his Senior year? - I’d have to refer back to the above statement - It would be really hard not to have him back because of Senior leadership

I’ve been a big fan of Vick since we signed him. He’s in a major slump and negatively impacting this team’s potential right now. The hope is the talks Self mentioned this week start to change things around for him like they did Newman. We absolutely have no chance of a great season if his play continues to be this poor.
I think Romeo’s decision is more then just Vick. I believe its Vick and Newman. This is how I see it and I’ll get to that later. If he’s truly down to KU, Vandy, IU then on paper KU would be a no brainer. I think KU sits 3rd for Romeo despite what might be out there to the contrary.
IU is the home school and Archie Miller is a good coach trying to turn around a storied program. His team sucks currently but IU is a year away from turning it around once Miller has “his players”. He’s got 4 Top 100ish types signed on for next season and a few leftover pieces should give them a chance to be much better next season. Langford can step into IU and get up 10-15 shots a game because there’s nobody on the roster as good as him. That’s the “business decision” part of things. He gets to showcase himself on what should be a decent Big-10 team next season and keeps his possible lottery pick status doing so.
Vanderbilt is the school I actually think is favored to get him today. Having Garland and Shittu already in the fold makes it very attractive for him to go play with those guys. Vandy has nothing standing in his way as far as PT goes, he gets as many shots as he wants being a SG at Vandy instead of a wing at KU. Vandy has a Notre Dame SF transfer and a Top 100 SF signed as well so I can see Vandy selling him on the other guard spot next to Garland because he’ll be a 2 guard in the NBA. If Romeo is serious about Vandy as I think he is they will have to cut someone to make room for him as they are full.
Last we have KU. I know we’ve discussed the importance of Vick’s year end decision but I believe Newman’s decision plays just as big a part here. If both leave Langford has a clear shot at a big role at KU next season and I would bet he comes here in that situation. If one returns its likely he’s going to see a crowded perimeter.
As we get closer to the spring it will be interesting to see what his comments are about a commitment timeline. If he’s waiting until late April/May (that looks good for KU). If he signs earlier I assume he isn’t convinced guys are leaving. Romeo doesn’t talk much so this will be interesting to get any good intel. As good as Romeo is I do wonder how his recruitment became 2 struggling programs and KU. Calipari turned the other way rather early, Duke bailed as well. I do have concerns about Romeo’s character but I’m hopeful those are not anything that actually means anything when its all said and done. He’s a fantastic talent that is needed but Top 5 talents usually have more schools kicking the tires for his attention. Just my 2 cents

Newman and Vick have been playing 180 degrees out of phase. When one is playing well the other isn’t, Vick is playing himself out of the draft and Newman is playing himself in.
Hopefully Coach Self cand get them both playing in sync since it would make the team that much better and increase the margins of error and, if this is the case, Devonte can get some rest and not have to play 40 minutes every game.
If they both play to their potential I can see both leaving. I am inclined to think that Malik will be gone regardless but Vick is a question mark. A senior Vick playing like we know he can would be a better option than any OAD.

Good points. - The ONLY thing I could possibly say in rebuttal about this is like I’ve talked with others and they have brought up and agreed - -makes sense IS. - -IF Romeo wanted and he wasn’t waiting to see what Vick does , then why didn’t he go ahead and commit early to Vandy OR Indiana because of the things you mentioned - as far as immediate - showcase playing time? - -Like you said he could step right in.
The people I’ve discussed with all say is he is waiting to see what Vick does , I head he had soured on Indiana because Indiana wanted Garland and missed and Romeo wanted to be surrounded by other really good players. - -there would be no reason for him to wait could of signed in the early period if he wasn’t waiting to see what happened at KU - which tells me we are in very good shape to land him. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

I liked Self’s comments about Vick this week. Shows you how far away he’s from being a pro right now. In his current state of mind it would be a big mistake for him to leave. He’s just not there yet. Who knows though we’ve seen guys that barely played here go pro and seen guys that played a ton return for bigger roles the following year.
I agree we’ve seen the rise and fall of Newman and Vick almost simultaneously. Having Newman playing well is great but we’ve also seen how much of an impact Vick not playing well is having on things. On nights where Devonte doesn’t shoot the ball well we can ill afford another starter playing poorly. If we ever got say a 6 game stretch (hint hint) where all 3 + Svi brought their A games we’d be having ourselves a fantastic off-season
-
I agree. Very few games and none recently when KU has been run in on all cylinders. Hopefully Coach Self can tune up the team and have running on all cylinders in the near future and definitely by post season.
-
I’m sure Vick’s decision has an impact on his own decision. Since he didn’t want to sign early he has zero incentive to end it until the Spring Signing Period anyway. He can continue to be recruited and get attention at the Burger Boy and Jordan Game and soak it all in. If Newman and Vick move on I fully expect him to sign with us.

I can’t even remember a game we had 3/4 of all cylinders going well. Every game is a struggle in some capacity. I don’t know if that ultimately means we are a fatally flawed team or one that’s going to get there. Still holding out hope on the latter
