TCU meets the “Trae ball”

Those Egg Sucking Sun Devils lose to the best team money can buy.
Really a great day of college basketball. It would’ve been one of the best ever if Dook and UNC had also lost. Like Uncle Jed says…weeell doggies… This is shaping up to be just a great year in college basketball.

-
Unc should have lost but wake has a 7 footer that could lose a free throw contest to doke
-
@KUSTEVE Duke - -got really lucky, BUT they have the best big man in Basketball - -Damn where have I heard that about a particular player umm what the hell is his name - -oh Trae ya that’s it - -well doggies - -32 points 21 rebounds - where the hell is Ellie May when you need her. - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

@KUSTEVE I see that of the 3 guys at ASU that burned us…only Holder had a good game (at least based on total points). The other two didn’t score that much. It took 3 guys to be hot to beat us in AFH.
-
Trae takes the vast majority of the teams shots…
One would wonder if he was guarded by a tireless talented defender if anyone else could step up
They are beatable
-
I spent yesterday wishing that both teams would lose in several games. Especially the OU/TCU game.
-
Young had zero fouls. Does he play any D?
He might get 30 but Devonte may get 29.
-
The key to beating OU maybe holding Young to less than 20 and make someone else beat you. Dude is averaging 30 points which is pretty much 1/3 of their total. @Fightsongwriter iI think he’s getting a little love from the zebras, that’s how a guy plays 39 minutes without a single foul, he had at least 2 that could’ve been called in the parts of the game I watched.
-
Stopping Trae Young is not the key to beating Oklahoma. Especially since KU doesn’t have a defender good enough to stop him.
OU’s weakness is their defense. They are sub 300 in ppg allowed at 80 points allowed. That’s how you beat Oklahoma, you outscore them which this KU team is more than capable of doing.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 Bill Self won’t like that idea and it didn’t work well trying to out score ASU. I think you could beat them ether way but I’d rather slow him down. When Arkansas beat them he had 28 points, which oddly enough is his lowest point total vs a decent team. You probably won’t shut him down but I bet they lose every game going forward where he doesn’t have 20 heck maybe even 25.
-
@kjayhawks agreed but the main thing for me is: how often do we go inside? Will OU try to matchup with us or will McNiece be guarding Svi? That to me will be huge as well.
The best option is to throw different defenders and defenses at Trae and make him think. I like putting Marcus on him a bit so Devonte doesn’t have to carry such a big load.
-
@kjayhawks OU is 318th out of 351 teams in points allowed per game. They don’t play defense.
If you think Bill Self doesn’t like the idea of letting a star get his and focus on the other 4 on the floor, I would highly recommend you check your history about KU facing players of this caliber. Kevin Durant, Michael Beasley, and Buddy Hield are the three best college players Self has faced in the Big 12. Go look at how KU went 5-1 in those games against those players.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 if you don’t think Bill tired to stop guys you’re crazy (just finished reading beyond the streak, they thru everything they could at KD sometimes triple teams). I don’t quite think Young is near as good as Beasley or Durant, not even close IMO. It also was huge how good of a job DTG did on Hield in their place the next game, held him to 6 points in the first with all the, coming at the FT line. Held him to below his average so I’d recommend you check the history. I don’t think anyone that’s covered Self would disagree that he would rather play defense, in fact in that book he says that.

I’m not sure the Trea is the next coming. Is he good yea just not so sure on the great thing.
After watching the OU versus TCU game. I came away thinking OU is quite beatable. I will give him credit on trying to get his team involved. He was dishing some dimes/assists. However Coach Dixon made the adjustments, and for all intents and purpose shut down the assist matching Trea.
It appears to me that too many teams are so afraid of him hanging 40 that they over play on defense leaving wide open shooters.
Sure Trea got his points but cheez how many times did he shoot? Kind of looks like to me that OU relies on him too much. Hope he’s in great shape, because OU is going to need him big time.
Hey I could be wrong? He just doesn’t look like a player that can take over a game to me. It was just a one game sample that I seen, but it looks like to me he does his damage in the overall volume he puts forth. Maybe he’s getting these gaudy numbers because OU has to rely on him so much?

Trae Young is like the elephant story, where each man was asked to examine only a part of the elephant, and they all came to a different conclusion. I think he’s an NBA star playing in college, but I respect the people who disagree with that assessment. Let’s see what he does when we throw DG and Garrett at him. Let’s see what he does when Thug Carter goes after him. TCU tried to push him around, he dropped 39 on them with 14 dimes. Even if we do stop him, or limit him, he’s going to be playing in All-Star games for years. There’s a reason why Coach Self went so hard after him. His passing ability is simply otherworldly. His shot is tremendous. That doesn’t mean we can’t beat his team. It’s still a team game.

@Texas-Hawk-10 Self is like that - and that makes the most logical sense. - don’t know how many times I heard that - -seen that and been pat of such a scheme. - Players like Trae is going to get their points - the key again is you just don’t let another player with Trae have a career night. - -Anyone should be able to understand that reasoning. - -Which I don’t think they will. - - ROCK CHAK ALL DAY LONG BABY

OU is very beatable , be very careful about what you say about Trae in here - -you step on people’s toes, they DO think he is the 2nd coming - I agree you , and they do count on him very heavily - but I mean they should he is a talent for sure - I just don’t think he is the talent that some here try to make him out to be. -He will get his points - -that’s ok hell let him have his 40 - -you keep the others in check your gonna be fine. - -Look what Durant did -and how did that turn out - -look what Buddy did - -how did that turn out - we have seen/played great players before - and we will play them again - -we did just fine. - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
