New qb
-
Former Washington State Quarterback Peyton Bender has committed to Kansas. He was a 3 star recruit in the class of 2014.
-
Bender, Stanley, and Starks should make for a good QB battle in the spring. Hopefully that means Cozart can finally move to WR for his final season and Ryan Willis can transfer to a program that’s a better fit for his abilities.
-
@Crimsonorblue22 The more the better our chances of one being decent, @Texas-Hawk-10 Cozart wont touch the field as a WR, plus hes scared to get touched. I say DB with all the guys we got leaving from there is his best shot at ever playing football again.
-
@kjayhawks “plus hes scared to get touched. I say DB”
That statement is why I say WR. A guy who’s hesitant to take a hit will be hesitant to deliver hits as well. With his size, I think he’d be a good fit as an outside receiver who can get a jumpball because Cozart is a pretty good athlete. That let’s Sims and Gonzalez line up in different places on the field, especially in the slot where they can run crossing patterns and play off of Cozart’s routes as well to get open.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 Beaty claims he is one our best athletes so if its true, he can help some where
-
RE: Bender, he was going to be Wazzu’s back-up this year, and maybe their starter after Falk left. However, he ended up having academic issues and had to go the JUCO route. He could definitely win the job. Like @kjayhawks said the more the better odds are one is good. I need to watch of his film to see how his arm looks.
-
This kid can sling it, quick release and pretty good arm strength.
-
@BShark can he run-fast?
-
Decent athlete, not going to blow anyone away in that regard. Quick release should help mitigate oline problems at least. With what I’m seeing with his release and arm strength he should be pretty good at those stupid bubble screens Beatty loves. Of course, most of what I could see he was throwing downfield and throwing those short screens is different. It will be fun to watch him in the Spring game!

According to an older article Wazzu was hoping to place him at a Cali JUCO and get him back after he presumably cleared up his academics.

I hope one of our quarterbacks separates himself from the others early so Coach Beaty doesn’t suffer the difficulty of picking a starter next year. As we reach the end of the season and after watching three different starters, I guess they were all equally mediocre showing why coach couldn’t pick one ahead of the rest. As always, I will look forward to next year’s team with optimism and patience.

Yeah no great options this year. Cozart was afraid to get hit, Willis locks in on one guy and isn’t great in general and Stanley has all the intangibles but lacks arm strength.
