SELF KNOWS MORE HOOPS IN HIS LITTLE FINGER THAN TONY BENNETT KNOWS IN HIS WHOLE PENCIL NECK
-
It’s true! UVa is another eyeball and click seed with no one over 6-8. So what!
-
I have to disagree with you. I have seen UVa play several times and, IMHO, UVa is a very solid team any way you look at it, and Bennett is a coach a I would not mind having at KU after Coach Self retires. Just my personal opinion.
-
@JayHawkFanToo Agree with you - have also seen UVA play several times - extremely well-coached team - more talent than Bennett has had before, even if not OADs. And, although they lost 2 of last 3 (close games to Louisville and UNC), they’ve done so basically without their best player. And, the fact that they don’t have a lot size upfront (just Tobey and Gill) makes their success the past two years all the more remarkable. They can struggle to score sometimes, but I really like the way the play defense.
-
Bennett is a good young coach, like Self was when Self came to KU 11 years ago. But in coaching, as in most professions, there is no substitute for experience when the really big money is on the table. Same as Coach K always holds an edge on guys like Self. There is a point of diminishing returns, but Self is 8-15 years away. And Bennett, like Self, and K, and Knight and Dean and wooden had to wait for the senior genius with the experience to clear out to become the best. Having more recruited talent can make you look smarter, but you’re not.
-
@JayHawkFanToo Haven’t seen UVA in action, but lost to L-ville, NC and even with Duke, right? Isn’t UVA one of those teams that is always hot during the season but fizzles out when it counts? That’s my memory and am sticking to it
-
I think I know more hoops in the hair on my bum than my wife knows in all the chapped skin between her big toes.
-
@HawksWin Well, they’ve really only been good the last two years. Had a #1 seed last year, but lost in the sweet sixteen by 2 to one of the experienced coaches @jaybate-1.0 notes can give you an edge - Izzo and MSU. Bennett has been getting better players, although not the top-ranked, and I expect UVA to be strong year in and year out from here. Probably won’t ever get the best talent because of the way they play.
-
Last year UVA won the Regular Season and Conference Tournament Titles and made it to the Sweet 16. Bennett has been building the program gradually from sub .500 team to a contender. This year it won the ACC Regular season Title and will likely be a #1 or worst case a #2 seed; not many programs have done better than that.
-
@drgnslayr that was gross!
-
-
I think he’s going to be the next coach at that school up in Madison that you’re all tired of me talking about.
-
I want add that I agree that Bennett would be a great get for KU, if Self were to depart 5 years from now. He has to be one of the best of his generation, if Danny decided not to come home.
-
@wissoxfan83
Agree.
-
My first choice would still be Brad Stevens…Bennett is high on the list as well. Danny still has to prove that he can lead a major program; his first year at Wake Forest is nothing that gives you a warm, fuzzy feeling. Turgeon, on the other hand, has had a great year and is leaps and bounds ahead of Manning in HC experience.
-
Sorry… when I hear that term… “so and so knows more XXX in his little finger…” my imagination runs amuck.
“My first choice would still be Brad Stevens”
He’s one of my favs, too… but first, let him get his silly NBA thoughts out of his head.
College is where it’s at.

-
@JayHawkFanToo He did well at Washington St., coaches great defense, has an incredibly disciplined team that has been top 3 all year. That said, I think we would beat them like a drum if we played them.
-
@drgnslayr That was funny
-
I’m trying to keep things light and fluffy before we pounce on the clowns.
-
@drgnslayr I said I thought we were gonna lose to Baylor yesterday and that worked out well for us. I think I should continue that trend by saying ISU beats us tonight.
-
@jaybate-1.0 …“left nad”…
-
Won’t the results of this game help you decide if Self’s “Billy Ball” was the right move?
ISU must have the best offense in our league… a split with us this year.
-
Oh yeah… I shouldn’t have said what I said. Jinx stuff. But I didn’t give an exact prediction or score.
UPDATE: Kansas loses by 30 to ISU!
There… that should do it!
I still can’t believe OU missed the bunny that would have forced OT. Would have been nice… maybe double or triple OT.
-
@drgnslayr LOL
-
@jaybate-1.0 I thought Tony Bennett was a singer or something like that.
-
@jaybate-1.0 I havent looked at Kenpom for a long time. In fact, I have purposely ignored it this year. But I just looked at our stats. Apparently KU is back in the top 10 on Defense Eff. ( #9) Not surprising, our offense eff is #31. ISU is basically the exact opposite of us. Super good on Offense and not tops in Defense eff. Maybe that plays in our favor?
