"Wooden Watch"
-
This came out on ESPN today. Does it seem like a glaring error to anyone else that Frank Mason is not getting more credit? He is the best player on a top 10 program. A program that without him would certainly have 4-5 losses instead of 2. He is putting up big numbers and really filling the stat sheet. No love for him nationally.
-
It’s wrong. Next year people will know.
-
@joeloveshawks I don’t know enough about most of those players listed to determine if Frank deserves to be on the list. In some ways it speaks to the strength of our program this season that we don’t have any stars worth consideration as a Wooden winner.
-
It appears Perry Ellis is clearing a space for Frank Mason.
-
@wissoxfan83 Well unfortunately I watch far too much college ball and know quite a bit about the guys on the list. Frank deserves to be in the running. To quote Fran, he is “the guy that stirs the drink”.
-
@joeloveshawks Well, you saw the game last night. The first thing you saw was a tribute to Coach K from Coach Self, which they play everytime we play on ESPN. Then, they had their obligatory half time show on the Kentucky Wildcats, where the studio hosts quit talking about KU/OSU, and went into a long discussion of Kentucky basketball. Now, this is a long-standing pattern with ESPN, where we have seen half time interviews with the Squid on our games twice in the past 2 years, neither of which had anything to do with the Mildcats. There is an obvious, pronounced bias on ESPN towards KU. So, it doesn’t surprise me a bit they would overlook Frank.

The Wooden award goes to the best player in college basketball.
Now the question - Is Frank Mason the best player in the Big XII?
Not college basketball, just the Big XII. If I am answering that honestly, I say no because I don’t even think Mason is the best player on his own team. And that’s what hurts Mason for the national award.
Honestly, if Oubre had started the season well, I think he would be on this list. However, he didn’t, so it’s hard to put him there now, especially since he hasn’t had that spotlight game where he dropped 35 points on someone.
If I had to give the Wooden right now, it would come down to Jahlil Okafor from Duke, Delon Wright from Utah and Jerian Grant from Notre Dame. Kaminsky’s injury takes him out of the discussion for now, but he could get back in the mix with some strong games. Juwan Staten could really help himself by leading WVU to a strong conference finish.
But honestly, I think it should be either Wright or Grant because they do so much for their team, ahead of Okafor, who is just a monster for Duke.

@justanotherfan Frank the Tank Kaminsky will play tomorrow against Nebraska. I watch a lot of UW and he is a difference maker.
-
There is a difference between being the best player and the most valuable. No question Mason is the most valuable but not necessarily the best.
-
@wissoxfan83
I like Kaminsky and hope he is healthy and plays well the rest of the year. I like his game. He’s a stud. As I have said other places, I am just extremely wary of concussions and just hope he doesn’t have any lingering problems.

@wissoxfan83
In this age of OADs, what luxury to have a player like Kaminsky for 4 years.
