@Crimsonorblue22 Two HUGE takeaways:
1- We will have to run 4 guards because of this:
"Self on Mitch Lightfoot and Dwight Coleby battling for backup minutes in the frontcourt: “Both are doing fine. Dwight is still not 100 percent (recovered from ACL surgery). He’s structurally fine. He’s still dragging it a little bit. Mitch is going to be good but Mitch is young, green and doesn’t totally understand yet. It could be situations as much as anything else.”
2- We’re going to run, run, run.
Self was asked what “excites him most” about this team.
“I’d say speed,” he said. “It’s fun coaching fast guys. I think we’ll be able to play faster than what we have. This year we can play at a quicker clip because of the little guards.
“The backcourt is ahead of the frontcourt,” he added. “I think we have a deeper backcourt right now.”

Thank you for the links. Sounds like the older players are doing a great job helping the new players. Landen Lucas is not only a smart player but a smart individual overall; I can see him having a future as a Coach.

That news on Coleby is very concerning. The longer he takes to get back to full speed, the more you have to worry that he may not fully recover his agility and explosiveness. Granted, Coleby was not a speed and agility player before, but losing mobility could hamper him quite a bit.
He tore his ACL last September. It’s been 13 months since injury and a full year since surgery. I understand there are hurdles and people recover differently, but 12 months is when you would expect even some of the slower healers to be back to 100%. Perhaps its more mental than physical and he’s not ready to trust his leg underneath him yet.
This is definitely a watch and see type of thing.

@justanotherfan I think coach has referred to it as mental.
-
Yes and no. 9-12 months is the normal time to full recovery after “standard” ACL surgery; however, if the surgery was more complicated than the average, it could take longer. I don’t know if Coleby had routine ACL surgery or if his was more complicated. Also, recovery time for bigger, heavier individuals is typically longer.
Is is possible that he has not quite recovered mentally and he still does not truss the knee. When I had shoulder surgery, I babied that shoulder for a long time and I only started using it fully when I had surgery on the other shoulder.

@Crimsonorblue22, @JayHawkFanToo
I figured it was mental, but since Coleby is a bigger guy, he has to start working it normally, or he will injure his other leg trying to “protect” the leg he had surgery on. I am always wary of big guys with leg injuries when they take longer to heal. History has not been kind to big men with leg injuries that do not heal quickly. They are quite literally never the same.
