Wiggins vs Hield

  • You are a GM of a NBA team.

Would you rather have Andrew Wiggins or Buddy Hield?

  • @drgnslayr wiggs! Proven!

  • Wiggins because he has a much higher ceiling than Hield. I think Hield is a guy that can be a solid 12 year NBA guy, but Andrew Wiggins is a guy you build a franchise around.

  • @Texas-Hawk-10

I was already comparing Hield to Wiggins last year. I felt the same as you.

I’m not sure now. I am seeing so many other areas of Buddy’s game blossoming that there is no way I’m willing to bet against Buddy on anything.

Really, I can say the same about Andrew this year. He has lifted his game completely. Wish we had this Wiggins at Kansas.

I don’t doubt that Wiggins is the better athlete. But the goal of this game is to score the most points. I think Buddy is a better perimeter shooter.

  • Wiggins. I really like Buddy, but Wiggins has unreal potential and has plenty of time to improve his jumper.

  • At 6’-8" Wiggins can play either the 2 or the 3 while at 6’-4" Hield will play mostly the 2 where he will be somewhat undersized and maybe the 1 that he really does not play much.

At this point Wiggins, no question about it; he has already proven he can play in the NBA while Hield has proven he can play in college…so far.

  • @drgnslayr Andrew Wiggins can be a 25+ ppg scorer in the NBA and I think Hield is a guy who will be in the 10-12 range because he’s a very good shooter. I just don’t think he has the quickness to be an elite NBA 2 like Wiggins can be.

  • @drgnslayr goal is to score the most pts? Wiggs usually guards the best players too. He plays both ends and rebounds.

  • I’m sure we all love Wiggins here, and he’s doing great in the pros, but he didn’t dominate the college game like Hield is doing.

  • Wiggins is still younger than Buddy which is kind of strange to think about, by almost two years! I imagine as a 22 year old college basketball player Wigs would have dominated almost every game.

  • Wiggins would be a junior this year, Hield is a senior. Does anyone here truly think wiggins would not be dominating college ball right now as a junior? Also put Wiggins on Oklahoma and not Kansas and have every play ran for him and this would not even be a topic.

  • @wissoxfan83 agreed, I was typing something very similar when you posted

  • @wissoxfan83

Excellent point. Hield is now a senior…in his fourth year Wiggins numbers would be record setting…

  • @nuleafjhawk How much did Hield dominate as a freshman?

We’re never going to see another Danny Manning in college basketball because players with that talent don’t stick around long enough any more to gain the experience to really dominate. A late bloomer like Hield is as good as it’s going to get.

  • So is it the majority in here view Buddy as more just a college phenom and won’t be near the phenom in the NBA?

It’s looking like Wiggins was the other way around (because as others mentioned, he didn’t stick around long enough in D1), but is sure becoming the phenom in the league.

  • Hield as a dominate senior barely cracking the top 10 in the draft boards, Wiggins as a freshman a consensus top 2 pick. That kind of answers the question of what a GM would want.

I think Hield will be a decent role player in the NBA, I wish him the best, he is just under sized and not an elite athlete. His defense is avg and his ball handling is avg. He will struggle to create his own shot in the league against taller more athletic players at his position. JMO I wouldn’t mind if I was wrong BC I like him as a player and he seems like a good kid from what he has allowed the public to see.

  • Wigs could drop 30-40 at 2/3 speed.

He is rookie of the year in the NBA at 3/4 speed.

We won’t see the real Wigs till after the big pay off of the second contract!

    Hield is a player though.

And he has that mania to get better that allows players to go beyond expectations.

  • It is very difficult to make this an “apples-to-apples” comparison for many reasons. One being that Wiggins is already starting to establish himself as a star in the NBA. Hield is more speculative.

But I wonder if we could have changed out Wigs for Hield for this game, could Andrew have gone off for 46 points against our defense in AFH? I find it unlikely while he was in college, but my scenario is to take him out of the NBA now and drop him in AFH. I think he is capable of doing it.

I’m trying to think of different scenarios to compare these two.

If anyone else has ideas… I’m all ears!

  • @drgnslayr he could! Plus guard Hield

  • @Crimsonorblue22

Thanks for continuing to mention Wigs defense. I think I get a little star-struck by Buddy’s offense and tend to overlook the other side of the ball.

I think your point about defense is key in this comparison and who GMs should favor!

  • @drgnslayr buddy, had the TO’s at the end too w/Mason on him. Is his real name buddy?

  • @Crimsonorblue22

    I believe so

  • @tundrahok Good point! I did not consider that at all. I can be very tunnel visioned. My wife calls it stubborn. Well, she calls is something else, but I’m sticking with stubborn. Can you imagine what Wiggins, McLemore, Embiid and many others would be like as college seniors? Yikes!! Thanks for setting me straight.

  • Wiggins, he is a freak athlete and has not even come close to his potential. He is a multiple All Star player.

  • @drgnslayr Heild is killing it in the NCAA right now. He stands to be an excellent NBA player but I really dont see him being an All Star caliber player. Maybe he can though, I mean I felt that Steph Curry would be excellent in the big leagues but I didnt see him being as good as he is now. I mean, the guy is just unconscious. He absolutely can break some of MJ’s records.

Wiggins #1 pick in the draft for a reason. Kid is the next great NBA talent out of KU. I would still take Wiggins over Buddy.
