SAN DIEGO AZTECS - TUESDAY NIGHT 10P.M. CBS

  • @wrwlumpy

"Hotel del Coronado (also known as The Del and Hotel Del) is a historic beachfront hotel in the city of Coronado, just across the San Diego Bay from San Diego, California. It is one of the few surviving examples of an American architectural genre: the wooden Victorian beach resort. It is the second largest wooden structure in the United States (after the Tillamook Air Museum in Tillamook, Oregon) and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1977[3][5] and a California Historical Landmark in 1970.[4]

When it opened in 1888, it was the largest resort hotel in the world. It has hosted presidents, royalty, and celebrities through the years.[6] The hotel has been featured in numerous movies and books."

Women went nuts for Dan back in his playing days. He is still a good looking man.

  • Am I the only old fart that is probably going to conk out by about 9:30 and miss the whole game??

  • @nuleafjhawk yes! Take a nap earlier! U r not that old!

  • @wrwlumpy Once again, great job on the photos and info. Didn’t know that Ann Wilson of Heart was born in San Diego…the folks around here make a big deal out of her being “Seattle’s own.” Turns out she was a military brat whose folks moved up here during her HS years. Heart started out a Led Zeppelin cover band and were just breaking out nationally around the time I got out of KU.

Speaking of KU, don’t know if it was mentioned on this thread, but SD was Wilt’s last career stop, as player/coach of the San Diego Conquistadors of the ABA.

  • Danny played for the San Diego Clippers with Larry Brown in 1989. In the same arena I saw Hendrix with Iron Butterfly, the local hero’s. After Hendrix the audience was invited to stay and see the premier of the Movie “MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR.” A long, loud, wonderful evening. The Hendrix recording of “Red House” was recorded at that concert.

  • @wrwlumpy Sounds like one amazing night. I was a big Butterfly fan, partly because of the organ licks. My Mom was organist at our church, and these guys made the organ sound cool again after having to listen to years of hymns. (Later I picked up on Jimmy Smith, who knocked it out of the park.)

  • I saw Jimmy Smith at a club and restaurant located in the Union Station in 1972. I had all of his albums.

  • @wrwlumpy Other than “Got My Mojo Workin’,” I didn’t really get into Jimmy until I took Dick Wright’s History of Jazz class at KU. Dick was the general Manager at KANU (now KPR) and had a basement library of over 10,000 albums, mostly jazz & classical.

  • Aaarrgggh!

Iowa State pulls one out against Cincy with (what else?) a late 3. Bearcats missed three game-winning shots at the end.

Oh well, I guess at least it helps our strength of schedule.

  • Does anyone know a way to watch the game if you don’t have a package that carries CBS college sports?

  • WARNING TO KUBUCKETS PARTICIPANTS:

Drgnslayr has an itchy finger and can’t stop pushing all the “like” buttons!

You guys post so much amazing stuff… both basketball and non-basketball.

  • @JhawkAlum @Crimsonorblue22 posted a link on the CBS thread.

  • @JhawkAlum I used to use First Row Sports, but it’s a pain in the butt because you have to get rid of all the pop-up windows to watch a game.

  • @nwhawkfan @JhawkAlum Somebody posted the steps for using first row but damn if I can find the thread or post now. It was very detailed.

  • @nwhawkfan honestly feel a little bad for Iowa St this year. Liked their team a little when Hoiberg was there (and 0ther than a few douchebag nutjob fans, their student body is alright with me). I’m going to relish tearing their 7 man rotation apart this year. But, non-conference, go Clones.

Only Big XII team I root against out of conference these days is Kansas State. Even Ford and Drew have grown on me.

  • @approxinfinity You check your temperature lately? Something causing you to be delusional. 😄

  • @brooksmd he needs you brooks, md!

  • CBS strikes again! You’d think they’d realize that pissing people off into signing up for some sort of package to see the one game they poached off the other carriers is cannibalizing their business.

  • @Crimsonorblue22 Two asprin and call me in the morning. But not too early. I’ll be at the range shootin’ clays until about 9.

  • @brooksmd lol.

I wrote “Damn, I’ve gotten soft.” after that original post, then chose to delete it… Nahh… Big XII 4eva. Would be even better if we could kick Texas to the curb. I honestly like Shaka, having taken classes at VCU and seeing a lot of him there, but Texas the University I cannot stand.

It’s hard to root against the teams… I mean think back… think back to Doc Sadlers dirty Nebraska team nutpunching us on the floor… or… Iowa State pre-Hoiberg even, or Michael Beasley stealing one from us… I felt the dark side of the force in those moments. But now man… of the people on the floor, who’s left to hate besides Weber?

  • @approxinfinity Ford or Huggy Bear?

  • @brooksmd

I’ve come to respect Ford. He doesn’t fare well against us (and certainly its easier not to hate someone your coach humiliates a lot in recent years), but he actually seems to be a decent guy (accusations of recruiting improprietary aside) and seems to recruit nice kids, and has a decent amount of national success. I mean for the conference, he seems alright, right?

And Huggy Bear, man, that guy can flat out coach. My college roommate was a Cincy fan during the Kenyon Martin years, and I watched him closely. They ran him out of Cincy on a power play by their AD. He will recruit the right talent for his system; if he’s managed to keep his mind and gets the right chemistry out of those guys, watch out!

The players respond well to both these guys; I believe because they’re decent human beings and decent coaches.

  • @approxinfinity Speaking of Huggy, I just tried to bring up the KU game on First Row Sports and got a pop-up ad for Huggies!

  • …sadly, no game feed, though…

  • @approxinfinity Always thought Cinc was about one of the dirtiest teams in bb under Huggy.

  • @brooksmd They were definitely one of the strongest. They were ripped and super athletic, and didn’t mind dropping someone with a hard screen or throwing some bows, but they were dirty by overpowering you. By strength and by speed and making unbelievably athletic plays.

Not by doing the five-step-Scheyer pivot and getting away with it, or getting 2 seconds added to the clock to make some last second half court shot, because your name is Duke.

They were a more respectably dirty - a bully.

  • @approxinfinity

Ford and Drew have squandered more talent than just about any other coach I can think of.; Ford is certainly in the hot seat considering how much he makes and the lack of success he has had recently. I did not care for Shaka Smart at VCU and I care even less for him at Texas. Weber is a pretty decent coach, but he cannot recruit or keep players; he has KSU playing well above where anyone expected them to be given their losses in the off season. Huggy is a superior coach that has over overachieved and has won everywhere he has coached.

  • @JayHawkFanToo Wow, I misspoke. I meant to say I have come to respect Drew. Don’t have much respect for Ford still.
