Royal fans in da Quarter
-
Couple of Royals fans enjoying some Nawlin’s jazz from Tuba Skinny in da French Quarter. Shaye Cohn on the clarinet also plays a mean piano, violin/fiddle and accordion. Oops. Just noticed I said Shaye plays clarinet. She’s actually on the cornet. Jonathan Doyle on the clarinet, Barnabus Jones on the trombone. Robin on the drum usually plays the washboard and is one of the best.

@brooksmd cool!
-
I saw a few Royals hats at the Dome last night for the womens soccer match.
-
@brooksmd were u there? Like the music.
-
@Crimsonorblue22 Nope. Don’t go to that cesspool unless absolute necessity
-
@brooksmd I have similar feelings. Except I can’t think of any reason that I would deem “necessary”. The last time I was there was in 1981 - the night I got to witness KU lose to Wichita St, and then my brother in law spent most of the rest of the night trying to keep me out of fights with WSU fans…
Besides that, I just don’t like N.O. (sorry if that offends anyone) - to me, it has bad mojo. Very heavy “spirit” to the city. It seemed a dark place that I couldn’t get out of fast enough. Once I sobered up.

@brooksmd Here is a link to some really cool radio cd’s by HOF broadcaster Denny Mathews. http://www.610sports.com/ I listened to audio excerpts on 610 last night - Brett’s near .400 BA (.390) in 80’, the 1980 ALCS with the Yanks & Frank White winning MVP, Saberhagens’ no-no with the Big Hurt recording the final out, (sorry @wissoxfan83 ), vintage & current Royals WS Championships. There are also some additional calls by his longtime sidekick & super great Big 8 & 12 CBB announcer Fred White. Man this took me straight down memory lane. Absolutely great gifts for the Royals fan in your family. Also from the getmyperks.com page you can select your team if it happens to be somewhere else, but certainly there are not any others in this mix of board rats… LOL… With almost one month of the digging out season gone, this old fogey’s ready for Spring training BB & haven’t seen one flake of snow yet - and don’t care if I do…ever ! Sorry @VailHawk… So ya’all jump on these links & check these out if you’re so inclined.
-
@nuleafjhawk I guess cesspool was kind of strong, but until crime is cleaned up in the city, including the quarter, I won’t go and advise guests not to go. Which is a shame as there are any number of things to do, see and enjoy. The zoo, aquarium, WWII museum, insectarium (where you can actually dine on some of the exhibits if so inclined) and beautiful architecture. Not to mention the food.
-
@brooksmd if I come down you will have to take me down there!
-
@Crimsonorblue22 Nope
-
I agree. The place is a dump. I have been there a a few times over the years and I don’t quite understand the fascination with the French Quarter…the place is a dump, but like the emperor with no clothes, it is politically incorrect or uncool or unfashionable to call it what it is…a dump.
-
@JayHawkFanToo Yeah, they’ve allowed the t-shirt shops and strip joints to ruin what once was a great area. I was at Keesler AFB from 67-68 and it was great back then. Still a few good places to eat and not so annoying bars to relax with an adult beverage. But many places have migrated over to Magazine St in the Garden District. Actually it’s about a 6 mile long stretch that runs from the Garden District to Uptown. Lots of little shops and places to eat. If you absolutely have to see the Quarter, have the cab driver run through there when he takes you to Magazine St.

@globaljaybird
Was Saberhagen’s no-no against someone other than the White Sox? I don’t recall them being no hit by KC and Brett.
-
@wissoxfan83 Guess your recall ain’t what it used to be. Getting old is a b*****. http://www.nytimes.com/1991/08/27/sports/baseball-saberhagen-pitches-no-hitter-as-royals-defeat-white-sox.html
-
@brooksmd Had just started my first teaching job that week. Must have been distracted!
-
@wissoxfan83 I’ll accept that.
-
@brooksmd Now brooks, we know @wissoxfan83 can’t be in denial…Plus, Saberhagen is one of only 3 guys to win a Cy Young, throw a no hitter, & win a World Series. The other 2 - Bob Gibson & Sandy Koufax. Them there pitchers is some mighty damn fine company, if ya ask me.
-
@brooksmd Also reported on the evening news that the Royals have offered Alex Gordon a 4 year deal but the money is below the 20 mil per he’ll likely get.
-
@globaljaybird
-
@globaljaybird Thanks for that factoid. Fascinating.
-
@brooksmd More Royals news - Jamie Quirk to manage at Wilmington http://m.royals.mlb.com/news/article/159985876/jamie-quirk-happy-to-return-to-royals & Mets FA pitcher Dillion Gee signed to minor league contract http://www.foxsports.com/kansas-city/story/kansas-city-royals-sign-former-mets-rhp-dillon-gee-to-minor-league-contract-121815

always awesome to see people rocking KC gear in the wild. Becoming more and more common these days. Hell my world series hoodies are the only jackets i’ve worn so far this winter
-
@brooksmd Gordo has spoken…Rumors that the ROYALS have "no chance " to re sign Alex Gordon are false. When asked about that report a few days ago, Gordon himself said in no uncertain terms that there was ‘no truth’ to last week’s update. Gordo has told the Omaha World Herald that, “The Royals are in the mix. I know what’s going on behind the scenes, and I’m dealing with it the best I can.” http://www.foxsports.com/mlb/story/kansas-city-royals-alex-gordon-free-agency-update-quote-no-chance-comments-123015
So yes brooks & @Crimsonorblue22 , we do still have a chance to keep him even if it’s a long shot.
