former ku point guard Aaron miles
-
Will be the assistant director of student-athletes development
-
Wow. Sweet!
-
Is there any other former KU pg you’d rather have mentoring Frank and Devonte?
-
@konkeyDong I wouldn’t be opposed to Jacque Vaughn mentoring them if he was interested in moving down to the college ranks, but I can’t complain about Miles being groomed to hopefully replace Howard after this season.
-
I am very excited about this!
This is H U G E !!!

@blackmild33 Nice!!
-
I can’t wait to see Aaron uplift the games of Frank and Devonte… I can’t wait!
This may be our year!
-
@blackmild33 just got home, did miles retire from playing?
-
@Crimsonorblue22 he’s taking a year off from a injury so he’s not playing ball
-
@blackmild33 exciting! I saw him in Lawrence at the jr high playground coaching his kids and others. They were doing some pretty nifty ball handling drills for lil ones.
-
@Crimsonorblue22 He has four!! sons… future Jayhawks hopefully. Need to keep that family here in Lawrence for sure.
-
@blackmild33 Maybe Aaron will decide to stick around and maybe Coach Self will help convince him.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 I like Vaughn, but I’ll take Aaron’s substance over Jacque’s flash any day. As for Howard, pardon the expression, but he’s been on the pot for long enough. Either make something or vacate the throne. If he doesn’t come through on Bolden, I don’t see any reason for him to stick around…
-
@konkeyDong Vaughn’s flash?
Since Jacque is my favorite all time hawk, I gotta ask: what exactly do you mean?
I know he couldn’t take us to the promised land, but JV could ball!
-
Both are outstanding Jayhawks but I would give the edge to Jacque, arguably one of the better PG ever at KU.
-
@konkeyDong How was Vaughn’s game any flashier than Miles? Both were pass first PG’s who each left KU as the all time assists leader.
-
Nice scoop.
Miles will toughen our guards way up.
And sharply improve their passing. Improving their passing will really make KU tough.
Good hire!
-
Hey folks, not being a coach he’s not allowed to work with the players. Same with Manning when he started out.
-
@FarSideHawk @Texas-Hawk-10 All I’m getting at is that I feel like Miles had more of a knack for seeing the floor and making the simple play. Vaughn had more wow moments, but Aaron got more done. Aaron also had better leadership skills. And of course Aaron topped Vaughn on the assist leader board which, being the most important stat for a pg, I have to give the nod to Miles. It’s not about hating on Vaughn, who is clearly loved by a large contingent, but I think Miles made the bigger contributions to the program.
@ParisHawk We know he’s not allowed to coach them directly, but he is allowed to mentor and that’s something that can be invaluable if done well.
-
What do you think having a 6-1o hall of famer washing your jock did for players making excuses that they couldn’t play a role for the team; that they were future NBA stars?
Miles has played in a Final Four as a freshman and been a pro and travelled the world. When he is washing your jock and looks at you whining about fighting over a pick, what will that do?
These kinds of men are priceless to a program.
-
True and glad you mentioned that.
This move was made as the first move to bring Aaron into the system. No guarantees he stays either, because after his injury heals I expect him to go back to playing for a fat check. But this first step is crucial for the day he is done dribbling and starts using a whistle. Good chance he will do that at Kansas!
