It seems a bit overboard to throw DP, Self and KU together in a conspiracy blender of drama. How dare he hurt my feelings. One thing for sure is it's not going away it's just too juicy. Duke is about as exciting as a stale donut. UConn is more about Hurley. ISU is going broke along with Nebraska. I have yet to see Michigan play. Houston is too damn good. We are the only thing going that's really sexy. Flory is fun Melvin is fun Tiller is getting to be amazing like his zippy pass to Elmarko shows and DP can end up being leading man material. This is why we play the games of one and done, Sweet 16, Elite 8 and Final Four and it is so damn hard winning a natty.

The first 6 of the 7 top stories in my FB feed were about DP just now. Don’t really see how it compares to the Tang fiasco much tho. We are one of the most dangerous teams in the country with probably the best player. Yea it’s frustrating and yea there’s a lot drama being played up by the media, but comparing us to the train wreck at KSuck? I don’t see those two situations as comparable.

And I don’t think DP is bored either, but it was an interesting take. As is Bskeet’s of him playing the GM’s for a better team drafting him. We certainly can’t accuse this year of being boring and no fun to watch, as I can’t wait to see what happens next.

When Micheal Jordan scored 69 points, I knew I’d always remember it as the night me and Micheal combined for 70 points — Stacey King, Former Bulls Player

The almost inescapable conclusion at this point is the Peterson just has no interest/willingness to play through any twinge, discomfort, whatever. If he isn't 100% then he isn't going to play...

@dchawker i think qualifying that a little bit is justified. We are competitive and we are winning with and without him. It remains to be seen how much winning the conference accolades Ann’s tournament matter in terms of playing through issues because its all still achievable.

Do you suppose w/all the major injuries around the conference that adds to DP's entourage worries? The last week and a half have been tough. Just a thought, especially since Coach thought we were on the right track w/him.

Let me make a prediction. This will be Bill's last season, and I think DP will have been the catalyst.
I have stated before that I admired Bill's willingness to continue coaching during the new NIL / Portal era when most of his contemporaries retired. So much has changed. Notice how Elmarko and Jamari have improved. That's what Bill's always been good at. Player development. i.e. Travis Releford who took a redshirt after his soph season. Unheard of, but it gave him a chance to develop into a very good college player. SO few players today stay long enough to be developed. Now, Bill has the DP drama to manage. And, to his credit, he's managed it amazingly well. BUT . . . as much as he wants another national championship (and with it a statue in front of AFH), I think Bill will conclude that he's made more money than he can ever spend, has grandkids, and needs to take care of his health. I think this will be it. Great run. (But who's next??)

I think a big part of the national debates today was there’s just nothing else going on. NBA and NHL are breaking, so it’s college hoops and the Olympics

I think it could be positive to have all this negative press as I said above. The thing of it is i don’t like people insulting DP. Seen nothing there makes me think he is a bad guy and when everything comes to light if it ever does, I’m betting he isn’t the one making the decisions. This is our bed at this point and we have to lay in it.

@JoJoAndMe agree w everything except i dont think it will be fair at all to pin Bill retiring on DP. If he retires it will have already been his plan.

SA Smith was particularly harsh, especially in cautioning NBA execs re drafting DP. One possibility is that the issue is basically overly cautious load management, I wonder if this specific angle of media pressure this week will alter DP’s and his team’s calculus in favor of playing through cramps, discomfort, etc. a bit more.

@HoraceZontal SA Smith is a useless opportunist. Just my take.

Will be interesting to see, for sure. Whatever we do I dont want to see a regression in the chemistry we have developed. The roles are imo good.

@HoraceZontal SA Smith thinks that if he yells, he has a point. Guys like him only make millions because so many people disagree with him it leads to clicks and viewership.

Yes. I’m fully aware of who SA Smith is and how the sports industrial combine churns to increase revenue. Smith’s status as a blow hard (A Howard Cosell for the 21st century) is not relevant. A bunch of commentators (including Smith), are saying the same thing as regards those who might draft DP first: in essence, if DP can’t play full games in college, how will he last in the much longer NBA season? My point is that this might have the effect of encouraging DP to play more, which would be great, unless he’s actually injured, in which case I want him to save his minutes for the tourney. I personally have no idea whether he’s being overly cautious, but reading HCBS’s reaction Wednesday night …

@HoraceZontal for sure, if he plays major minutes in the tournament it could very well be worth it. I think Self is just tired of dealing with it personally. Hes been questioned about DPs status everyday since November. I’m sure it’s wearing on him.

As much as the DP situation frustrates Self, I think coaching Melvin does the opposite. I feel like the chances this is his last season are <5% unless his heart condition is bothering him more than he lets on or he continues to have new scares there.

@MR11 I think Self retires with in the next 3 seasons. Only way I see him going this year is if they win the natty. I think he really enjoys coaching Flory and Council, obviously it’s a slim chance Council gets another season but I just read this morning a Montana football player was given a waiver to play his 9th, yes 9th CFB season.

There’s at least one bright side to DPs issues, the emergence of ElMarko Jackson. He’s gone from looking almost unplayable at the start of the season to be a fantastic sixth man. He’d be starting for most teams, i think. Consider the numbers from OK state game. DP scores 23, Jackson subs for him and adds 14 more, 37 points out of the scoring guard position. Also with Jackson you get a guy who’s likely a better defender than DP, and maybe a better assist guy. Good to know that if DP can only go 20 minutes, we got a guy off the bench who can give us another solid 20. And Mario can have a great game here and there, but he seems to streaky to be as reliable as Jackson.

If you want to talk about drama it's the holding out until after or during the McDonald's All Star Game to bless a basketball team with your presence. I guess that's the reality of it all. I just think do it already it's will be forgotten in a few days anyway.
