KANSAS BASKETBALL TEAM STILL AT WORK

https://instagram.com/p/1jGl1eKiDL/ It looks like Svi is standing next to Ellis in part of this clip and I gotta say he is either as tall or taller than Ellis.
-
@Statmachine Initial impression when the photo came up took me back to that fateful day in July of 1967, the place was the Armed Services Induction Center in KC. We were all lined up when someone came in and said turn and face the wall, bend over and spread your cheeks.
-
@brooksmd By the time I went there in 1997 they did that on a much more personal level lol
-
I’m relieved to see that he is even as tall as Svi!
The really great thing about this feed was seeing ALL the players (well, except for Brannen) appearing to be uninjured and without knee wraps for a change.
Now, if we can just keep this up into next season!!!
-
@brooksmd Gee, we chewed some of the same turf Mr @brooksmd. When I spent the day there in 69, guys swore there was buckshot in their crappy breakfast from Fred Harvey’s at Union Station. Also the alarm clock in the old Stats Hotel on 12th street rang about four that morning-it was a guy running down the hall beating hell outta the doors with a coke bottle screaming “Get yo asses up yo MFers. Yo ass is in da Army now !!” Funny as hell now but it sure wasn’t for a 19 year old farm boy that had been almost as far around the frozen out house as most had been on a friggin plane.

Concerning those wraps… I wonder how many of those wraps are for coddling injuries and how many are preventive armor? I used to like to deck out all my joints because when there was a loose ball I was sliding on the deck and I hated floor burns. And back in those days we didn’t have all the cool functional wraps they have today. For example, I remember using my elbow pads from football. Had to look really silly by today’s standards.
-
@drgnslayr what would your wife call you?
-
Back then should would call me “crazy!” (I know what you were thinking…) But I lived to go diving for balls and my favorite play of all times is to slide on the floor like a bowling ball and take down other players like bowling pins.
You have to realize how bad of an outside shooter I was. I had to find my thrills in basketball in other ways…
-
@drgnslayr @Crimsonorblue22 She gottcha man !!
-
@globaljaybird
True… I’ll never be able to live down the “p” post!
-
@drgnslayr never! But it’s so much fun!
-
@globaljaybird HOTEL? We slept at the center.
-
@brooksmd No room at the Inn-they brought us in on full busses. And it was a flippin dive too. Rats, roaches, & rejects. The Army was almost picnic compared to that.
-
Not sure. But it is conspicous how the scoring and pop declines as they get bulkier.
-
Or do they just develop more fear because they’ve come from HS and now have to turn it up a big notch?
I see players like Wayne and EJ… and they seemed to add on armor then go after less aggressive plays at the rim. But then every once in a while, both would go make a monster athletic play. That doesn’t add up. It just looks like they are holding back the rest of the time.
What if they just went for it? 110% on every play? Would they get hurt? They could. It’s more about playing smart than playing aggressive. You go flying into a crowd out of control and you are asking for it. But what if they did get hurt? If you want to really show NBA execs what you are made of, go blow out a knee and be back at 97% in 6 months because you bit the bullet on pain and fought through rehab. That’s a statistic you won’t see on any of these draft nutjobs’ sites, but I guarantee that it will impress some teams when they know it would take an elephant gun to stop you from coming back quick.
I admit it is a daredevil’s mentality… but there are health risks in sports, just as there are in flying over 62 school buses on a Kawasaki. Evil Knievel didn’t make it big until he made it in the book of world records for most broken bones. Ripley’s believe it or snot.

@Statmachine love it!
-
I like that Frank is in the back cheering on his teammate’s. Taking on a leadership role in the gym as well.
-
@Statmachine FOE! Teamwork!

The guy I want to see pushing himself in the weight room is Landen Lucas. If he’s ever going to live up to his potential, he’ll need to be clocking in at least over 260, and preferably closer to 270 or 275. He’s a very good rebounder, but until he gets strong he’ll never be able to score. He lists at 240, but my guess is he’s a bit shy of that. 230 maybe. Do the work, son, and you’ll be greatly rewarded.
