Spoiled

  • Ya this hurts. It always hurts anytime when we don’t win it all. We’re fans. We’re FANATICAL. We want another weekend. We want another game to look forward to. We wanna see the kids grow just that much more and the success that comes with it.

It’s a late night. A sad night. I just hear the highlights of games, results, etc. Texas just made their first sweet16 since 2008 . Read that again.

2 Nattys in that time span and countless other successes. And we always know that KU basketball is forever legendary.

As fans it’s okay to be spoiled. Love this game. Love this program. Rock Chalk forever!

So true , It’s really kind of sad though that some take this so serious that they take the fun out of the game. Yes I get wrapped up in the game , probably to much , but at the end of the day - -next morning I realize the Sun still came up , I was allowed to open my eyes for yet another day by my maker, and there is life after Basketball.

Just think of the pressure that these kids feel that play for the University of Kansas .The pressure they are under trying to please the fan base of the University - not wanting to disappoint, they have eyes - -they have ears they can and do read and hear what people say about them. Constant scrutiny trying to appease the fan base.

It’s exactly as your Title reads – SPOILED it can get to a point where it takes the fun out of the game. Think of it , how many other Schools /fans would absolutely die to be able to have the success that KU has had - - does have -Winningest program in the History of the game - -We have the inventor of the game - - we have the rules of the game ,AND we have the PHOG - -We have as the recently retired Coach K who says we have the best Coach in the Nation - -COACH SELF. - life is good , sure we lost but at the end there can be only ONE NCAA CHAMPION. - -We have TWO and probably more to come , we can’t win it every year.

In the end I’m really proud of these guys for what they accomplished this Season - these are still kids believe it or not - let them be kids , sure they make mistakes , bad decisions - who doesn’t - -We are KANSAS the Blue Blood of ALL BLUE BLOODS - ROCK CHALK MY FRIENDS

  • Arkansas broke our crackpipe! lol

I’m okay with this loss. Close game and it wasn’t decided by refs. Arkansas outplayed us in that second half. We didn’t adjust. It was like watching a crash in slow motion. You could see this coming after the tide turned. Was hoping we would flip the script back.

Sometimes athleticism and enthusiasm beats experience and composure.

I do believe the difference was FTs and not having Self on the bench.

  • Curious… who do we root for now?

All the other Big 12 teams? Purple kitties? Longhorns? Toads?

I definitely want the purple kitties to kick UK back to Kentucky!

  • @jayballer67

KU players are fortunate to have such a good fan base! We are critical about the game but don’t go overboard.

For example… I heard Calipari received violent threats. Imagine someone from the Jayhawk Nation threatening Self? Not gonna happen!

Every KU fan I have spoken to since yesterday all agrees our fellas had a good year and aren’t now trying to play the blame game.

I was at a restaurant last night sitting beside a guy with an Arkansas shirt on. We discussed the game cordially. He said he just kept waiting for Kansas to put the game away and it didn’t happen. I congratulated him and wished his Razorbacks luck moving forward.

I know there are some here that doesn’t want any Big 12 teams to win/do well in the tourney. It’s ok , whatever rows their boat , for me since Conference Season is over and NCAA tourney time - - I pull for ALL other Big 12 teams- yes even in K/State. - I would love to see them Kick Kentucky’s butt. Will that happen - -more then likely not , they have no answer for OSCAR - oh I forgot not surpose to say anything about that cause nobody gives a rats ass about Kentucky when you mention it here - -my bad

I think if Miles can play today they got a really good chance at Gonzaga - -Gonzaga plays NO defense what so ever. TCu might just run their tails right off the floor turn them over. - I hope all the teams do well today

  • I think how we lost it is what bothers me the most. Fundamentals absolutely killed us, not boxing out, silly fouls, missing free throws and getting 10 seconds called. This loss and the Michigan loss in the sweet 16 because we blew double digits are the hardest I think for me to accept. We are spoiled in a lot of ways but we are Ochai stealing a bad pass and getting a dunk against Creighton last year in this round from losing 4 straight in the round of 32. That’s not acceptable IMO, I know y’all will start cussing my name for saying but it’s not.

  • @kjayhawks

    I hear you.

It doesn’t feel like we had the same “step up” in March like we did last year.

Might partially be because we didn’t have Self. He was out head leadership and it’s just not the same team without him.

In my lead up to the tourney I put up my critical post on what we needed to work on… free throw shooting was something I said all of our guys needed to sharpen.

I think you can make the argument that our team thinks in a spoiled way when they don’t constantly polish their fundamentals. Even at this level… it’s still fundamentals that rule the day and practicing them constantly shows some humility.

  • We may not have stepped up as much as last year.

But consider our opponent in the championship game last year. Talk about completely not stepping up! And we were the winner of that game!

  • This wasn’t even a bad loss. No head coach, no bench, short on top end talent. They over achieved in the regular season, because of the coach. Bill is amazing and we are extremely lucky to have him. The Robert’s intern coaching job just goes to illustrate how darn good Bill is.

Note: The worst tournament losses thread was not bumped.

Bill definitely overachieved with this roster in the regular season. Getting a 1 seed with 3 or 4 seed talent. Should have been coach of the year.

  • For all you Chief fans you guys are especially spoiled. I’m a KU and Charger fan. I’m 49 years old and have seen ZERO titles as a Charger fan but THREE as a KU fan so I definitely feel spoiled there!

California guy? Chargers are definitely one of those snake-bitten franchises along with the Bengals, Bills, Lions etc

  • @BShark Born in San Diego but moved to Dayton Ohio when I was 10.

  • Going into the game, we had the lowest point spread of any #1 seed ( -3.5) versus an #8/9 seed since 1996. They were underseeded due to stacking up losses due to injury, and we were overseeded due to our amazing coach’s ability to maximize his team. We lost 5 out of our top 7 scorers off a national championship team. The bracket was set up to ensure we lost, from playing the best #16 seed, to the best 8 seed, to the best #4 seed ( UCONN). We played without our coach, which was probably worth 6 to 8 points. I also think if DeJuan doesn’t wrench his ankle, we win. This might be the least painful loss in the tournament I can ever remember. And our coach will take the necessary steps to get back to much better health. We’ll get after it again next year. We won’t have a grind out schedule like this year, which will help us overall. Still a great year, another conference championship, and some truly outstanding individual performances.

  • I would still be so nervous if we were still in it about Coach’s health moving forward. He talked in one of the brief interviews I saw about checking his blood pressure in his hotel room during the first game and it getting too high when someone didn’t get back on D.

Can you imagine being a player on the team and getting beat on a back door cut and looking over at your coach hoping you didn’t just set his recovery back? I wonder if this as much as the way Self felt was a consideration for him not coaching in either tournament.

I’m chalking this up to “not our year.” Jalen got a title so I don’t feel too bad though I know he wanted it bad this year. Kev was only here for a year so not going to cry that he didn’t win one as a jayhawk. Juan is coming back. Kj is coming back. Gradey was a freshman… We weren’t the first 1 seed to lose. Not close to the biggest upset. This loss isn’t nearly as bad as some others where we had program guys for multiple years not making a final four or stuff like that. Winning last year really made this years loss a lot easier to take. I do think we were the better team and showed it for about 25 minutes of that game. Oh well. On to next year.

  • @drgnslayr I was rooting for the BLUE Wildcats. Too many K-Staters where I work. Today has been super fun…

  • @BigBad Not too late to come over to the winners side. GO CHIEFS!! Lol

  • @benshawks08

Funny how our “not our year” still means winning our conference and having a consensus team All American!
