Matt Tait: KU football regression continues in Week 7; so what comes next?

While improvement needs to be made, I would not necessarily call it a regression when your main QB is missing and when you are playing solid football teams, likes of TCU and OU.

@AsadZ Main QB, Main RB and Main Defensive Player. It could have been a WHOLE lot worse.

Yes
KU certainly needs to clean up things but to call it regression is a bit harsh IMO

Hishaw wasn’t the main running back and Bryant isn’t the main defensive player. Hishaw was the back up RB who played a lot of short yardage situations and his loss has hurt KU’s offense as Thomas and Morrison aren’t as good in that role. Cobee Bryant isn’t even the best corner for KU, that would be Dotson. Bryant has absolutely made some big plays, but he also has been torched multiple times this year and when relievers have had huge days, they’ve done a lot of their damage when lined up against Bryant. Teams don’t throw Dotson’s way nearly as frequently because he’s the better corner of the two. I would also say that Logan, Phelps, and Young are also more important to KU’s success on defense than Bryant has been.

Yea one of the comments in the article nailed it. Was it regression by KU? Or was it that OU had been playing well below their talent level for most of the season and the beast finally awoke? Maybe a bit of both. KU was definitely flat defensively. Gassed as well. The OU game plan was smart and effective.
I get what Matt is trying to say though. We just need one more of these games to have the ball bounce our way and get that bowl game.
