Gradey’s shot
-
Athletic story today….
The shooter was Duncan Robinson, sitting out that season after transferring from Division III Williams College. He was still an unknown to most of the basketball world. Robinson, who went undrafted four years later, has ranked in the top seven in 3s made in each of the last seasons in the NBA. He is now viewed as one of the best shooters in the world.
Last fall, I got that feeling again when I went to watch Sunrise Christian Academy practice for a few days. This time I knew about the shooter — Gradey Dick — but it was my first time watching him play. Dick shot the ball so effortlessly. Perfect form. Elbow in. No wasted motion. Always balanced. Perfect flick at the top. All it took was one day for me to be convinced he’s an elite shooter.
So it’s no surprise when Kansas coach Bill Self is asked about his 6-foot-8 freshman wing, the hyperbole flies right away.
“He’s got a chance to be one of our best shooters ever,” Self says…

Yep!

Likely only going to be here one year.
-
Can’t wait to see him on the fast break. Dude has a motor…
-
Like Luke said, he’s gotta get tougher going to the basket.
-
23 points tonight on 9-13 and 4-6 treys, I’d say 1 season for GradeA looks like a good guess right now.

ya your probably right , especially he plays like that. Gonna be interesting on how he adapts when teams shift their focus more on him , forcing him into other things - -keying on him to give it up , force him to move evn more without the ball. He has such a quick release and high shot , hard to defend. The key is guarding him not allowing him to get the shot

Ok. He’s a lot of fun. Has a pure stroke. Clearly fast and has some quick hands, but is it just me or does he not jump very high? Yes he caught a lob. Yea he had a fast break dunk. Yes he had an acrobatic finish at the rim. But it looked to me he was above the rim but not like Och level. I know that’s picky but just trying to find something to keep the kids head out of the stratosphere! Lol.

It’s been awhile since I had heard such glowing practice reports about any freshman. Probably Josh.
-
@BShark I told ya

@benshawks08 I was too afraid to knock him as I’m mr negative on this board already but 100% saw the same thing.
He is not a quick jumper aka explosive or quick off his feet.
Case and point was he was under the basket in better position but the athletic Omaha big was quicker off the floor and tipped the ball off the backboard then grabbed it then he was fouled by Grady or Wilson. Neither are just quick/explosive ect when jumping (think Withey or a center winning a tip there is a quickness factor in jumping as odd as that sounds).
Don’t compare height of a jump to Och that ain’t fair lol. It’s like Och and Wiggs than everyone else ha!

Another positive (as I see it) about Gradey is his very punchable face. I think he will totally piss off a number of fan bases by being so good and, well, looking like he does.
-
@dylans lol, as much as i talk about other players’ punchable faces, i never thought of Gradey in those terms. He just needs a better haircut, maybe?

Pretty sure this is what folks are talking about when they say that.

@benshawks08 haha awesome

@benshawks08 Kinda looks like the HS Ecstasy dealer in virtually every TV police show. Except the British ones, which all seem to have pimply kids.
