2023 Recruiting

  • KU makes the Top 5 for 4-Star Shooting Guard Chris Lockett Jr. Chris is down to Arkansas, Baylor, Kansas, LSU, and Tulane with plans on committing around Christmas time this year.

Kansas: “I’ve noticed the development they do for their guys over the years. I’ve been seeing their guards play and I’ve been watching them a lot this year. I love the system they run and how they just letting their guards and wings play. It’s a blue blood school it speaks for itself. it’s history.”

From the comments seemed like Baylor/Arkansas battle.

  • Scottie Middleton updated his recruitment. Only played basketball for 3 years. Here’s what he said about KU. Xavier involved as well now but their coach just got fired. Ohio St got him on an official as well recently.

Kansas: "It was good to get the offer. Norm Roberts came to a few of my games this year and he offered me. He told me that he loves my versatility, energy, and love for the game. I started liking the school two years ago and eventually, I feel that could be a school I can take an official visit to.

  • @BeddieKU23 Bill would love him. Garrett type.

  • 20223 Chris Lockett has KU in his 5 finalists , said he wants to makes his decision by Christmas. Other Schools Baylor , Tulane , LSU , & Arkansas besides KU:

Talked about LSU now not having a head Coach might kind of put LSU out of the loop , talked about coming to KU for a visit believe he is 6’5 or 6’6 SG # 56 in 247 at present

  • @BShark

    Better shooter imo

  • Whadya think? Any shot we land Dillingham after NC State decommitment?

    Or Kensucky-bound?

  • @webjay Top 10 players are generally too expensive. Guess you never know though.

  • Marvel Allen is a very interesting decommit that KU was on hot and heavy before LSU procured his services.

  • @BShark

Yeah. Talented kid. Just don’t see it… Kids that commit to LSU, we are probably better off avoiding if you catch my drift

I know we have no shot at Traore and don’t want to get involved in that kind of a recruitment currently but not even all LSU commits are the same.

  • @BShark

We just have no need for Traore with what we have signed and what might return (Dave).

I know little about Allen besides he was interested in KU one day and committed to LSU the next. I just started grouping all these high rated kids going to LSU to lose and win nothing as caring about “other” things more then basketball…

Allen is good, worth taking. We made a decent offer but LSU was big balling.

Agree on Traore. He will cost a lot and we already have studs coming in. I’m torn on Dave, he would be our best big but on the other hand I’m excited for the new guys.

  • @BShark

Yeah the film on Allen is good and rated appropriately.

Agree I’m torn on Dave but if he returns I’m okay with it at this point. We know what we are getting from him and expecting any of the returning bigs/newcomers to provide what he can when fully healthy, even hobbled is unrealistic in Self’s system. Dave could mentor Zach/KJ another year and the two giants coming another season. I think its important we keep Dave if he wants to stay and get his masters finished. He has his limitations but I respect how hard he’s playing with that bum foot. We shall see

  • FYI KU hasn’t been one of the programs to contact Allen yet. Probably due to the fact we are still playing LOL

For me it wouldn’t bother me at all if he did come back , hard to replace experience , the only thing I kind of worry some is IF Dave does return then with what we already have here plus with what is coming in I worry about possibly being a factor about someone transferring OR someone not coming because limited playing time because of Dave’s presence

Calipari has a lot of time on his hands these days.

  • @BShark

Been a theme for him lately.

  • @BShark could they fire him?

They always can because it is Kentucky but it would hurt big time financially.

  • Would love to get Scotty Middleton.

For real he should be a top priority

  • @BeddieKU23 yeah agree

    Middleton looks sweet

  • Staff likes him and he seems very interested. Time to get it done.

would be a solid addition from what I’ve seen

  • 4 star guard Chris Johnson mentions KU as one of 3 programs recruiting him the hardest. Arkansas & Tennessee being the others

Kansas: “I talk to Jeremy Case. I was going to take an official visit earlier this year but my high school schedule could never align with the dates. We are still figuring out a set date where I can go.”

Case is doing work. Recruiting and coaching.

  • @BShark

Case also involved with 4 star guard RJ Jones. Regarded as one of the best shooters in the class. Same town as Jalen Wilson

Kansas: “They have been active. I talk to Jeremy Case and Kurtis Townsend. They want me to play the position of Remy Martin but with the offensive skill of Ochai Agbaji. It has been pretty good conversations with their staff and they have visited my school plenty of times. They have not offered but we talk here and there and I would like to receive an offer from them.”

  • @BeddieKU23 sweet sweet recruiting music “be like our current champions”!

  • Duke with another 5 star in the 23 class. puke commence. This time its Mackenzie Mgbako the #3 ranked prospect. Now 5 of the top 30 for 2023

  • 4 star guard Rayvon Griffith cut his list to 5 including KU. The #42 ranked prospect has a final 5 of Alabama, Cincinnati, Kansas, Ohio State, and UCLA. He’s from Ohio. Hello!

Kansas: “Bill Self recruits me. They are a big time school and I feel I am a big time player so I like the way the have been recruiting me. They play with a chip on their shoulder every time they go out and play.”

When discussing what he is looking for out of a program when visit season arrives, Griffith said, “I am looking for a brotherhood that values winning and has an up and down playing style.”

Currently ranked No. 45 nationally in 2023, Midwest Basketball Club wing Rayvon Griffith was pretty impressive on Saturday. He’s a big wing that can play at the two or as a small forward and he can get hot from deep in a hurry. His athleticism is budding, he plays fast and his game appears to be headed in a very positive direction

  • Ku offered 5 star Justin Roberts from Philly. Norm watched him all weekend. 6’7 SF. Has visited UK & Tennessee so far

  • KU recruiting 4 star Point Guard Trey Greene. The #67 ranked prospect had this to say

Virginia Tech, Cincinnati are recruiting me hard, and a little bit of Kansas, Tennessee, UCF, and USF. It’s been a lot of reaching out and showing love the past couple weeks. In terms of who I saw at my games, Kansas, Tennessee, Virginia Tech, Cincinnati, and UCF were there watching, making sure I’m staying up to date with everything.”
