ya buddy blows big time. – -These are the type of players we CAN NOT afford to lose

  • This was always the risk of bringing in a new coach this time of year versus keeping Emmett Jones on an interim basis for 2021.

Which would’ve just delayed it a year.

Exactly. I’d prefer not walking on eggshells for appeasement. Anyone who doesn’t want to be here should just leave now as painful as it may be.

It’s not walking on eggshells though. The decision was hire and outside coach without any competition from other schools after spring practice and basically make spring practice meaningless because of a new offensive and defensive system to install this summer and lose quite a few players. Or give Jones an interim year to keep the foundational pieces Miles brought in on board and risk not getting Leipold or Monken in December and having a weak 2022 class because of the uncertainty of coaching situation.

Either decision came with its own set of pros and cons and Goff made his decision now. Goff went with the mentality that Leipolay not have been an option in December if Buffalo had another great season as he probably would’ve been catching interest from bigger programs. Monken probably would’ve still been a viable option.

Leipold has the mentality and track record to indicate he should be able to turn KU around so hopefully it ends up working out. This year is definitely going to suck though and Goff knows this which is probably why Leipold got a 6 year deal instead of 5 like normal because this is basically a throwaway year as far as judging progress and this is more about installing systems and establishing the foundation for Leipold’s tenure here.

    I think we’re in agreement.

I guess what I mean by “walking on eggshells” is that I don’t want to do with football what we just did with basketball, which is to put everything else on hold for the sake of one recruit or two and miss out on some kids that could have helped us and really wanted to play for the crimson and blue.

Look what happened with TyTy. 1500 kids in the portal and we sit on our hands for two weeks waiting for a decision that does not go our way, missing out on some quality guards, etc. that would have benefitted us more than chasing a ghost.

I am glad we jumped at Leipold now when he is available if that is our guy rather than wait and risk missing out just to satisfy a of a couple recruits. I want an AD and coach who have a very clear vision of what they want to accomplish and are not going to compromise that vision because we desperately want to hold on to someone who really doesn’t want to be here when all is said and done.

The line tends to be that kids play for coaches and not for the school. While it would be nice for kids to choose KU because it is KU, we were bound to lose some kids no matter who we hired. That said, I’m sure there will be many kids who will want to run through walls for Leipold and I’m looking forward to seeing the types of players he can bring in.

  • Kenny Logan is staying. Hearing Leipold has won over a lot of guys on the fence. Thinking Harris is staying. Not sure on Prunty quite yet, but there’s some chatter he’s impressed with Leipold.
