Some Things President Obama May Have Kidded with Bill and His Staff About

  • Regardless of political affiliation or passionate dogma, this visit was an honor to our hoops program, a chance meeting which fired up our student-athletes. What better site for the most prominent leader in the world to make a public show than the University of Kansas, which represents a big chunk of the origin of the game we so well cherish? Bill Self and minions were very appreciative and energized. A dandy tribute to Jayhawk Basketball. Rock Chalk!

  • @REHawk …and I would have written in the same vein even if Shotgun Dick Cheney or his Pup would have visited and paid us a similar tribute.

  • @REHawk Good word.

@brooksmd I’m not good at following rules!

  • Spin Dunk and Wiggins is not Rookie of the Month, he is Player of the Month.

  • I don’t care for the man, but respect the position. I can understand how exciting this must be for the players to meet the person who holds that office. The worst president of the US is still the president and an honor to meet.

  • I wonder where we will land in POTUS’s bracket this year?

Bill: “Hey, Mr. President… I don’t know if you have any pull with the NCAA selection committee… but we could really use a little seeding help this year. It would be great if you could get us bumped up to the same unbiased pull Duke has, even if it is just for one year!”

Prez: “I’ll see what I can do. Duke has the east coast media behind them and can sway more voters than Kansas can.”

Bill: “You should think of the future. The Midwest has a high count of Latino voters!”

Prez: “Good point. I’ll see what I can do. I’ll let you know by contacting Snacks through the Chi-town grapevine.”

    (humor attempted)

  • If we get #11, we’ll be a 2 seed.

  • @wrwlumpy

Guess it was a Patriot ball! 🙂

  • @BentonASmith

    If?

    When.

    Next.

  • @drgnslayr

The President is like every KU fan. He has gotten burned by some of our early exits and he is going through some fan dissonance we all go through.

    But here is the thing!!

In addition to discharging his political obligations at Anshutz Pavillion, he went to see the team and Self. HE DID WHAT ANY TRUE KU FAN WOULD HAVE DONE. He tried to meet them and make sure they knew he believed in them, to make sure he had done everything he could to help them get in the right frame of mind to beat Texas now, win conference later, and make ring in March!!!

I will bet you any amount of money that President Obama late at night, or early one morning, when no one but a Secret Service guy is around, puts on Wayne’s jersey, throws on his favorite hoodie, goes to the White House gym, and has his own private shoot around, where he whispers to himself, OT, KU tied 80 up with Kentucky, 4 seconds to go, National Final, Selden shakes loose and catches at the trey stripe from 28, 3 seconds, pump fake for @drgnslayr, 2 seconds, trigger top of jump 1.5 seconds, arch, swish, buzzer…confetti flies and fans rush the floor.

The ball rolls quietly across the baseline.

He turns and high fives the Secret Service man.

“Time for the meeting on the Tarim Basin.”

  • @wrwlumpy

In the same page there is this story about Michael Beasley; I guess he is playing China now…oh, how the mighty have fallen…

  • @JayHawkFanToo is that close to Africa?

  • @Crimsonorblue22

    Good one…:)

  • @jaybate-1.0 Here’s hoping that someone offered a recording of the Jayhawk Chant, so as to invigorate the Prez on occasions when he slinks to the latenight gym in his #1 KU singlet.

  • @JayHawkFanToo Gotta admit that I kinda feel for Beasley, even tho he represented the Octagon. Just a mention of that kid usually draws my smiles. Other than Durant, in the Bill Self ascendancy, he is just about the only outlying Big 12 player whose career I follow. Might be wrong, but I envisioned Beasley as something of a young latchkey lad who was fortunate enough to discover his calling at an early age; but then the fast easy money derailed him from stability as a drugfree contributor to the game which had fostered his success and childhood promise. The American Dream gone awry. I hope he gets it together, eventually returns to the League. I would imagine that he has become a popular player for Chinese Hoops. He is certainly blessed with a load of personality and talent. Still clocking sizable dollars.

  • @JayHawkFanToo

Very sad about Beasley. He was a great player for awhile. Maybe injuries caught up with him. So many guys in the NBA play at a high level on weed that it probably wasn’t that. Still, I will never understand the attraction of the weed among great athletes that need their cardiovascular efficiency. Smoke in the lungs is smoke in the lungs, no matter what kind it is. Very hard on the efficiency.

  • @jaybate-1.0 @REHawk

Like you said, other than Durant, I cannot think of another player in the conference that dominated like Beasley did. He started with drugs during orientation, when he not only got caught but got Chalmers and Arthur in trouble as well. Players are now tested periodically for drugs and after a couple of positives they get suspended, so no, players no longer play high on weed, and the ones that are caught, get suspended and pretty soon no team will touch them like Beasley and Lamar Odom and others. Beasley had had stints in rehab and you don’t really go to rehab for weed, you go there for the harder stuff.

Too bad, what a waste of God given talent.

  • @jaybate-1.0

    “pump fake for @drgnslayr,”

Ha… thanks! I’ll give you a hundred bucks if you go down to Austin, down on the floor just before the game, whisper into Self’s ear “use drgnslayr’s shot fakes” and then signal the okay sign to the network camera.

    I PAY IN CASH$$$$$$$!

I’ve got nothing against Obama. I just get tired of all the President jokes when they get a second term. 8 years of the same jokes gets mighty old! I wish they could only serve 1 2-year term. Makes them fast learners and anxious to work on their legacy! ha! And building all of those presidential libraries every two years would surely spark the economy!

It was a good thing for the boys to meet the POTUS!

  • @drgnslayr

…so, you are advocating a OAD presidency? I am all for it…

  • I often forget about politics and different affiliations when I get on here. I’m glad we have kept it respectful here. I’m glad the team got to meet the President. That’s a once in a lifetime thing.

    PHOF!

“…so, you are advocating a OAD presidency? I am all for it…”

Heck yes! Along with an OAD Senate!

  • @JayHawkFanToo

That’s great to hear that weed use is down in the NBA. I would have thought there was some additive you drink that would mask it in your urine and blood samples. But I think its great for the guys to stop. They will have a life time to smoke pot if they want after the game, and by then they probably won’t want to anyway. My special interest thing is: it is a bad thing to do to your lungs on a regular basis. Its supposedly as bad as cigarette smoke for you, and I have lost two loved ones to hideous deaths from cigarette smoking. I am way against those bastards that built their fortunes in part on my family’s lungs. I haven’t lost anyone to pot yet, but its only a matter of time, I reckon, before those stats start surfacing, too. A little tar goes a long way in a human lung when injested in one’s teens.

    Off soap box.

    On game.

    You’re waaaaay hot today!

    PHOF 2.0

  • @jaybate-1.0

Smoking pot is much different than smoking cigarettes. There are over 600 ingredients in cigarettes that burn into 7000 chemical pollutants.

    What’s in a Cigarette?

There is still tar in burning pot… so many choose to vaporize it these days. It still leaves a residue in the lungs, but considered less dangerous than burnt tar. There is no burning smoke in vape, and in some cases, research is indicating elements in pot that actually help prevent cancer, but the results have not been formalized enough to make broad statements publicly by governments.

Pot is one of the few substances that lacks toxic properties, hence, it is impossible to use it and reach a toxic level causing death. That doesn’t mean people will be responsible on pot and not get behind the wheel or stroll off a cliff. It’s a safer substance than alcohol.

  • @jaybate-1.0

I am a very strong opponent of any kind of smoking be it cigarettes or weed. I have too lost friends to smoking and drugs and I see nothing positive coming from smoking. I understand that not everyone that smokes pot graduates to harder drugs but everybody that is on the harder drugs invariably started with pot.

I am very proud that even when I went to college in the 70’s when pot use was rampant and there was a lot of peer pressure to smoke, I never did (or nay other drug) and now I can preach to my kids and grand kids with some authority on the subject of drug usage.

  • @JayHawkFanToo

    Thanks for weighing in.

  • @jaybate-1.0

There had to be something we agree on… 🙂 🙂 🙂
