TEXAS LONGHORNS - FOUR WHOLE DAYS TO RECHARGE AND PREPARE

  • I’m definitely pumped for this game. A buddy and I are making the drive from KC down to Austin for the game. Any of the other board rats making the trip or does anyone live down there?

  • @wrwlumpy I really enjoy your recent posts. Seems like you are more active than I remember. Keep it up!

  • @HawkInMizery I live in Houston but am driving over with a UT grad. There is Joint two blocks due west of “the drum” Frank Erwin Center where I heard Jayhawks gather. Pretty sure “Hawk in Texas” lives in Austin as well.

  • @JayhawkRock78 Thanks for the heads up! I look forward to meeting some new Jayhawk fans and having a beer or two while I’m there!

  • I’ll ask the question I think many of the us are wondering…where is the redhead from the UT game years ago in your collage @wrwlumpy ? 🙂

  • @icthawkfan316 I think HEM found her.18j5ey3ecp5jxjpg.jpg

  • This picture last year posted on this site went viral and articles began to appear like this -

    http://deadspin.com/5468322/well-we-found-longhorn-girl/

  • A little more makeup, a little more mature, but that’s still our Texas girl at heart. Arielle soon popped up on a handful of those modeling sites you see, where anyone can upload their photos and sit back and wait for a call from casting agents. But that wasn’t to be her path to fame.

Well, We Found Longhorn Girl From Deadspin - No, it was to be the furious screencapping of Kansas fans during one fateful February game that would propel Arielle into the national spotlight.

    From Deadspin.

  • KU wins the big 12 in Dallas. Next year this team would be National Champions. this was also the game where Julian Wright was seen by the NBA Scouts. He said later that he should have stayed another year. But maybe, Darrell wouldn’t have been on the court to score 20 against Memphis. Watch Julian’s 360 to end the game.

  • @wrwlumpy Thank you … the minute we play Texas, is the minute my mind jumps to … well … you know.

  • I wonder how many more years Longhorn Girl will be posted on our blogs when we play Texas?

    Just curious and not complaining!

If I have to look at '70s burnt orange, it might as well be her hair!

  • @wrwlumpy My god that girl is hot.

  • @drgnslayr As long as I’m breathing, I’ll make sure we’re reminded.

Now, you mention her burnt orange hair. I kind of envisioned a distinct lack of hair …

  • @HighEliteMajor

Are you saying hardwood floors instead of carpet?

  • @HawkInMizery The place where all KU alum gather is called Scholz Garten. Built in the 1890’s. I am going and will try to stop by there. I like to hang around the Erwin Center to see the KU bus come in and watch them deport. Rock Chalk!

  • I just Googled “HEM Girlfriend.”

  • Selden presents the President with Jersey #1. what will Wayne now wear?

  • @wrwlumpy Davy Crockett’s famous last words when surrounded by Santa Anna & 10,000 Mexican troops at the Alamo…

"Well boys, it looks like were pourin’ concrete today. "

    No malice intended…

  • @JayhawkRock78 & @HawkInMizery:

Beware that there is a lot of construction (for the new UT/Dell Medical School) in and around the Frank Erwin Center. Red River St. which runs in front of the FEC is completely shut down and parking will be a mess. The FEC is going to be completely demolished for the new medical school after this year and as of yet they don’t even have a site, let alone a facility, for games to be played. UT with all its billions of dollars wants the taxpayers of Austin and Central Texas to pay for and build them a venue. Not sitting well.

There are several state office building parking lots that they open up for the games that are several blocks away but really close to the Scholz Garten where KU Alum meet.

    See: link text

##Driving Directions to Scholz Garten: Driving South on IH35: Traveling South on IH35 take the MLK Blvd exit. (this is the same exit for The University of Texas) Turn right onto MLK and safely get in the left lane of MLK as soon as possible. Drive three long blocks to San Jacinto Blvd. Turn left and drive two blocks and you will see Scholz Garten on the left. Scholz Garten is located at the corner of San Jacinto and 17th street. There are several parking garages on both sides of the street.

  • @HighEliteMajor I’ll tell you what, HEM, “TX Girl” represents one issue on which you and I will never differ! A spectacular find.

  • When Sheldon Pees.

  • @globaljaybird I,heard it was “landscaping”. No malice

  • No Foul. Could Ridley do this to Cliff?

    POY_2014_nk_29_t460.jpg

  • @RockChalkinTexas Thanks for the heads up! I hate traffic, there’s a reason my mother hates riding in the car with me! I’m staying at the Hyatt Regency Austin right on the river it’s not too far from the arena, so maybe we will just hoof it or catch a cab.

  • @wrwlumpy

“No Foul. Could Ridley do this to Cliff?”

Just a question… is Texas an “open carry” State?

    @REHawk

" I’ll tell you what, HEM, “TX Girl” represents one issue on which you and I will never differ! A spectacular find."

Maybe we’d practice better foreign diplomacy to meet other Heads of State at strip clubs!

Netanyahu: “Okay, BO, it’s your round, I got that last one!”

  • @HawkInMizery That’'s a LONG way to hoof it. It’s on the other side of the river and you would have to walk 2.6 miles according to Google maps and that’s going around the State Capitol complex at 11th street.

  • @RockChalkinTexas good thing I walk my dogs 3 miles every night! Walking may not actually be a half bad idea if it’s only 2.6 if the outcome is what we all want it to be I’ll be celebrating at the bars and no reason to get behind a wheel of a car unnecessarily. I could not be lazy and do my own research but since you’re in Texas any ideas what cab fares are like there?

  • @HawkInMizery I don’t take cabs.

    Try this link text

  • @drgnslayr

BO would buy drinks for the entire house and have the taxpayers pay for it…and the effort would tire him so much that he would feel the need to take yet another golfing vacation in Hawaii, at taxpayers expense, of course.

  • @RockChalkinTexas Awesome thanks for the help and the directions tot he bar! Rock Chalk!

  • @HawkInMizery What section are your tickets in? For the most part everything IS SOLD OUT except the very top two rows in the back of the highest sections were still for sale this morning when I checked.

Sorry I had some word salad there. Mostly sold out.

  • @RockChalkinTexas We actually haven’t bought them yet, unless it’s a really big game I usually wait til game day because they normally go down in peoples last min rush to ditch them. Where are you sitting at?

  • After watching the end of the OU I was hopeful that maybe, possibly, coach Self would have learned something from how his team performs in certain sets – how natural this team is playing a perimeter game. Or at least that he could acknowledge the identity of this team. I’m still stumped. Will coach Self let this team capitalize on its strengths?

Here’s a link-- link text @Jesse-Newell’s story from yesterday, and below is a quote from the story. Is Self serious? Or is he just pulling a feint? If he’s serious, it will be a long day in Austin.

"Self has done a nice job recently of pulling post players Perry Ellis and Jamari Traylor to the outside to play to their driving strengths, so I was curious what he was going to say when asked about how attacking UT’s defense.

“I think we need to challenge them, but we don’t need to fade away from contact. We did that way too much the first time we played Kentucky. Sometimes, the best offense against shot-blockers is when they block your shot, then you go get it. A lot of times, defenses aren’t in position to react quickly in that situation. We didn’t do very well at all when we played Kentucky, and Temple’s length bothered us too. Even though they weren’t as tall, their length bothered us a lot. We’ve got to score inside, but on the flipside, we can play inside-out. We need to throw it in there and play behind after we throw it in there, as opposed to just settling for jumpers. So the key for us will be pace and getting the ball moving quick and basically open man taking the open shot as opposed to the ball sticking.”

Huh. While there is a hint at the end of Self being receptive to “open man taking the open shot” 3-pointers, all that early shot-blocking talk has me thinking the Jayhawks still are going to take it right at Texas’ greatest strength. It didn’t work last year, and if KU tries it again, it’s unlikely to lead to better results."

  • @HighEliteMajor Very true. If the game plan is to “feed the post” and play “inside-out” against this team we are in for a long long day. Especially considering we don’t even have a true post player in our starting lineup. If we try to get the ball inside aggressively I expect Perry to be blocked no less than 6 times today. And if Self is serious about feeding the ball inside please let Cliff be in the game for 30 minutes.

  • Kruger, Huggins and Hoiberg can scout the hell out of opposing teams, I don’t really know about Barne’s ability. The New marked man is now Oubre. Cliff has been hidden most of the year from the opposing team’s tape room. What new twist will Self have? I think small ball with Devonte so that he and Kelly can go for as many steals as they can get. Jessie’s article pointed out that this is where Texas is weak. This is the first time since Mario and Russ roamed the court that we again have a reputation for steals. Guard play today will win this. HEM, I to just watched the last 5 minutes of the OU game and I am pumped!!!

I bet she shows up again today,

  • @HighEliteMajor said:

This quote from Self reminds me of the defenders of “bad-Tyshawn”, when they’d try and justify his out-of-control drives and wild shots as being good offense because of all the offensive rebound opportunities he was creating. Huh?

  • Does anyone else think that Self sometimes just changes things up all the time early so that the film on the team is basically useless to opposing coaches?? All the while trying different things just to see what works and what doesnt. I feel like I’ve witnessed this early conference for years.

  • @HighEliteMajor

"“I think we need to challenge them, but we don’t need to fade away from contact.”

Self is right… but this is just a generalization. It’s HOW we challenge them. And in that area, so far this year we are failing horribly at doing this. I believe we have the worst shooting 2-pt Jayhawk team in Self’s era, and we are one of the worst teams in the country at getting our 2-pt shots blocked… and we are not nearly as small as all those teams at the bottom.

I’m pretty sure we’d win our conference and go fairly far in March if we stop everything we are practicing on now and just teach this team what a shot fake is. That will do it! It’s an art form, just like being the magician that knows how to steal passes.

No one is expecting us to use shot fakes. We’d catch the entire nation with their pants down if we suddenly knew how to use them and used them. Texas is going to be pumped up today to beat us. They know we get more shots blocked than any other team in our conference and one of the worst teams in the country. They will be extended for every shot attempt (to block) without worry of fouling. They are PRIMED to get sucked into shot fakes and foul! And we all know Barnes… it will take him a year or two to realize what strategy beat him!

Please guys… SHOT FAKES! Practice them, learn the art, and USE them!

  • @drgnslayr I know right!? The whole game I was wondering why doesnt Coach Self ingrain the shot fake into his players? Why for the love of all that is basketball and holy?
