I don't like this
-
Joel Embiid is my favorite OAD at KU. He’s the only one I’ve ever really been attached to and was truly sorry to see go. I don’t like the sounds of this, but hopefully he’s ready to go next season.

@wissoxfan83
Saw this awhile back. Where are his “handlers” now? He’s had a rough time, little brother dying, surgery, let’s hope he’s figuring it out!! How can we not want him to succeed?
-
Here is an article with a little more perspective about the weight. Here is another 10 day old article where Coach Brown staff does not seem too concerned. Go figure…
-
@JayHawkFanToo Embiid said he gained 50 lbs in 3 months. Crazy? Surprises me to think it would be a challenge to streamline him. I thought he’d have trouble putting some healthy wt on. He’ll figure it out, but like one article said, he needs to be a healthy weight to avoid more injuries.
-
3.6 lbs/inch. @ 7’
That’s like a 260 pound six footer… sort of.
(He’s kind of fat!)
-
With most people, gaining weight is a lot easier than losing it. When I saw Embiid’s photo my first thought was…yoga pants.
-
Joel picture Joel posted about a week ago. Looks alright to me. Are these links to InTouch and National Inquire? Joel needs to have more mass. King James is 4" shorter and 250. I think as long as he turns it into lean muscle mass and gets his conditioning back on track it would serve him better to be >250 <300.
-
He is winning too many cookie challenges!
-
@Kip_McSmithers what I wouldn’t give to have a healthy Embiid this year!!
-
@KJD that hilarious!!! Don’t think he’s good enough to eat to many!! Thx!
-
@Crimsonorblue22 …he looks pretty clutch at cookie crunch time to me. That takes reps.

Here is a link on Embiid denying the 300 pound allegation…
Here is another link on Wigging running away with the ROY award…

What matters is the way JoJo competes, not what he weighs. The plus-sized models of Sir Charles and Shaq were some of their best years. JoJo will be fine. If for nothing else, his agent has a strong stake in keeping him competitive.
-
It really depend on the type of frame you have. Shaq and Barkley had much bigger frames (and hopefully bigger bones) that could carry the weight. Putting extra weight on your bones and particularly joints, is a recipe for a short career, specially if you have a propensity to injury like Embiid appears to have. He indicated he played at KU at 230 and it allowed him to be very athletic; at 250 he might lose some of that but might be better equipped to handle other players. I see only downside with anything over 260, but my information is very limited and I do not have any inside information or any data to back it up…so I could be way off, but I don’t think I am.
-
@JayHawkFanToo I get what you’re saying, especially about carrying weight on his joints. I think it’s clear from the picture that he isn’t anywhere near 300lbs, though, and that number came from a tabloid magazine, so that should tell you what it’s worth. I’m just saying there are plenty of guys that have been stellar players at both the college and pro levels that carried a few extra pounds and had long and productive careers. JoJo will get back in shape. He’s not heading down the Sherron path. At least, not yet.
-
@konkeyDong Im not totally sold on 300lbs either. I am sure that he did gain weight as evidenced by ummmm… his foot being broken and not being able to exercise! Oh and he had a death in the family too. That’s a lot of stress on a guy. One of those alone would make anyones weight fluctuate, add another and its sure to be worse. No one here should worry about JoJo. he will be fine. If the management and trainers in Philly really care about their #3 pick, they will make sure he is at game weight and shape when he has to be, and not a minute sooner.
-
I wonder if he will spend the summer in Lawrence working with Andrea Hudy like several of the former players now in the NBA do.
-
@JayHawkFanToo he would get a lot of love in Lawrence too, like home. Think he could use that!! I know he tweeted he missed KU.
-
Whatever Joel weighs, I wish he was here this season. Of all of our OADs, this is the one that I wish more than any could have stayed for another season. By a long ways.
-
He already has a pre-existing level of trust with Hudy and with Coach Self to provide further guidance, KU might be the ideal place to rehab. It would be mutually beneficial since KU could use it as s recruiting tool.
-
@JayHawkFanToo losing his brother, new place, surgery, no family-KU family too, had to take a toll.
-
My advice for him is to stay away from Buffalo Wild Wings.
I can gain 5 lbs just driving by one of their locations.
