Things that will hold this team back/out

  • 1st of all let me preface this so people don’t get all twisted up , cause nobody here has ever insinuated it but just saying I’m here expressing why I think this team would neve make that Championship run THIS SEASON.

We will have a pretty good Season my thoughts are possibly a sweet 16 team , anything beyond that would be gravy. I think in reality this team is just missing a couple of components for that to happen. - -I think we re probably looking at a 3rd place finish behind Baylor and more likely then not Texas.

Number 1 reason for not any real serious contention for a Championship : - - We have no leader , what I mean is we don’t have THAT guy that can take over the game , get us the clutch basket when we need it- - -that go to guy , that guy that keeps the others in line - -it’s ok to get a little angry , someone screws up - - let them know dam man come on you got to get in the game - -that kind of guy. 2nd : - -We have NO INSIDE presence NONE. - - the guy that according to Self that had the most improvement during the offseason was McCormack , my response to that would be - - - WHERE? - - - Where Coach -i JUST DON’T SEE IT . - not one aspect of his game that I can see has improved. sorry. - -Hell Mitch gives us as much as Dave - - Dave not scoring - -Mitch can do that - -Mitch better rim protecter.

We have players that if they don’t hit their first couple of shots then - - they are done , they dissapear , vanish become very timid - you can’t do that you got be aggressive - - -stay aggressive , we don’t have players that will do that - -example ( Devonte - but even more Frank } - Frank was just mean - -just a dog you know what i mean ? - -we don’t have anyone like that on this team.

We are just missing key things this Season not that athletic , we saw today when you come against a team that is more athletic and taller , longer. - -I figure we lose to Baylor twice , Texas at Texas , and probably another somewhere along the line in League - would of said West Virginia but looks like they wrapping up camp too with their losses - they headed South and that will be real quick.

Hopefully next year with the kids coming in better scorers we be better , then the question becomes who is gonna run the point - just not our year guys

  • @jayballer67 can’t disagree with any of your points.

  • The sweet 16 would be an accomplishment.

  • Kansas is a good team. We just need to play to our strengths.

What exactly IS our strengths right now at this point ? - -Serious not knocking just curious what you think our Strengths really are - I don’t see any that stand out. Well unless defensively and even that didn’t stand out today

well, we’re a good 3 pt shooting team. 3 guys over 40% I think. Our defense is pretty good when Dave isnt on the floor. Yes,we give up size to bigs like Sims. But our guards are good at perimeter D, play good positional defense, are plus rebounds for their positions, and if we’re trading 3 for 2s, stopping as much as we can in the interior, knowing there is a size differential, we have a good chance of winning on any night.

  • @approxinfinity just not mornings?🤣

  • @Crimsonorblue22 ha. We’ve never played well mornings.

  • @jayballer67 pretty accurate analysis. Like I said (and I like our team) before the season got going, this team is going to have troubles scoring and will even struggle defensively at times.

  • This KU team has to lean into small ball as its primary style of play. That means maybe only 10-12 minutes per game from Big Dave, and basically no time for Lightfoot and others. That’s just how it is going to be this year, unfortunately for those guys.

This team is just not a great fit for those guys. That’s not their fault, or anything against them as players. They just don’t fit into what KU can do best right now.

KU has to play 5 out to maximize the potential of this team.

  • @justanotherfan yeah if Marcus is fit to play tonight, then I agree. Harris Marcus Braun Ochai Thompson has to be the starters. But with Marcus out I don’t think I would start that group replacing Marcus, would you? Thompson probably still injured. Maybe get TGF in? Hope he gets it by seasons end?

  • @approxinfinity Thompson is out at least another week.

you just CAN NOT play Harris & Garrett at the same time for extended minutes - - then you have to really legit scorers from the outside. , playing them together allows the opposition to back off and really help out on the other 3. - -There is a reason Haris is wide open just like Garrett

  • @jayballer67 well I’m willing to let Marcus shoot volume from 3 and see what happens. We will see if his 38% from deep is fools gold or not. I’m inclined to agree with you, but the last game his shot looked good. Give him volume and let him sink or swim off ball. Maybe with Harris in ball and finding open guys, Marcus gets open looks where he’s set and magic happens.
