Predictions: Kansas vs Baylor
-
If you are the same as me, you have been scheming on how to beat the Bears for the last couple days as if you are Bill himself. I would love your thoughts.
We must not change out new style of play. Play fast and take open 3s early in the shot clock. With Oubre playing without thinking, I am predicting a 18-25 point game. The bears do not have a lock down defensive wing to handle the rising play of Oubre. Also, Self notes how well Greene is playing. If his neck is feeling better, expect a couple of treys and a solid, overall game.
With Gathers, our big guys might get manhandled. I don’t expect must from Perry this game but I will gladly put my foot in my mouth if he gets his numbers! Also, I have always liked the way Chery plays for Baylor. Thankfully, we won’t have Tharpe on him this year and Mason can wear him down
If we can keep Baylor off the offensive glass, and grab a few ourselves, I expect a solid win. I predict we start off sluggish because Baylor is hungry for a conference win. But around the 10 minute mark, KU will get back in a groove and pull ahead by 5 at Half. The second half will have KU controlling the tempo with mini-streaks by both sides. But we will pull away and get a comfortable win.
KU 72-Baylor 59.

I haven’t seen Baylor play this season, but that certainly does not disqualified me from making a bold prediction just like those guys on the TV.
My bold prediction: We’ll either hang on and win by 5 (77-72) after blowing a 22-point lead or we’ll lose by 27 (58-85).
You heard it here first, folks.
Oh, and Oubre will move up to #7 in the mock draft in either scenario.
-
@JhawkAlum Honestly is the best policy. I think we lose tonight 75-70 in a game where Frank Mason plays incredible along with Oubre and Perry and Selden disappear again. Just my opinion. I see this as one of our 4-5 conference losses on the year.

Depressing!!
-
@Crimsonorblue22 Not to me, I release the conscience too often for that.
-
Vegas has Baylor by 3 which means it will be a close game and when you factor the home court advantage of anywhere between 3 to 6 points, KU would be considered slightly better. I will take Self out coaching Drew at the end of the game so I will take KU.
-
@JayHawkFanToo I’d like to watch those Vegas odds by tip-off. Surely the Big Boys aren’t serious about risking their dollars, Drew vs. Self at this juncture…with these two squads. If the Bears pull out a victory, then the Temple outcome will not have been an anomaly.
-
@JayHawkFanToo By the way, thanks for your time and effort in researching and posting the Drew/Self comparative stats on another thread. Very enlightening…and entertaining.
-
My heart says KU wins, but my head tells me this’ll be the first of several road losses this year. Close most of the way, but we fade down the stretch. Vegas has it about right.
Oh well, at least I can switch over to watch the Wiggins-vs.-the-Morrii matchup on ESPN.

Shoot the trey. Transition when they can.
Have Perry, Brannen and Svi do the trey shooting, because Perry and Svi will be shooting up to average and Brannen will be cycling up and down around his average, because he is at his average. Trust in Brannen’s gun. The guy is clearly volatile enough in the rest of his game to be “A Shootist.”
Tell Frank and Kelly, at 51 and 48% to take the first trey look they get. If they make, keep shooting, but once they miss, then tell them to lay off the trey until the TTech game and let them shoot o-fer against a cellar dweller, so they’ll be ready to shoot back to average againt OSU and be scorching against ISU and OU. In short, let them shoot out of their slumps against a crappy team, when it won’t sink us.
BUT THAT DOES NOT MEAN THE REST OF THE TEAM SHOULD STOP TAKING TREYS!!!
(Note: that was put in CAPS to make sure @HighEliteMajor and others partial to the rain-threes philosophy did not infarct.)
After KU has taken twelve first half treys–15 if Self’s heart will stand it–then go inside as follows: MOBILE BIG MAN ATTACK PLATFORM (MBMAP). Two high posts with Kelly Oubre on a slightly low wing. Ball to Kelly, Kelly fakes the trey and goes to iron first possession. Second possession, ball to Kelly, Kelly fakes the drive and high post closest to Kelly breaks hard down the lane for a pass and a dunk and a FT. Third possession, ball to Kelly, Kelly fakes shot, high post closest to Kelly breaks hard down the lane and the other high post follows on his tail like an I-back following a full back into a hole. Short two with foul and a FT. Kelly fakes drive and feeds the trailing high post man. Next possession, ball to Kelly. Kelly throws to high post nearest him. Kelly breaks hard to rim and alley oop and dunk. Next possession, ball to Kelly, high post nearest Kelly screens back side high post. Backside high post scrapes off his man and Kelly feeds him at the glass–short two with foul and FT. Next possession. Ball to Kelly, sound familiar? Shoot the trey. Next possession, ball to Kelly, shoot the trey. Next possession, fake the trey, kick to Frank, shoot the trey.
Repeat the above the second half.
KU by 18.

I know we will beat Faylor, the only question will be by how much. I say we win by 8 points.

Down to 2 now and guessing it will drop more by game time…

@JhawkAlum Baylor IS hungry for its first win but we are talking about Scott Drew vs Coach Self. My $$ is on, what does @jaybate-1.0 @jaybate-2.0 call him? Magister Ludi? Haha! Anyway, yah I like KU’s chances in this one if they can keep it close the first 10-15 min.

Sounds like Vegas wants KU to lose the Big 12 as well. Clearly shows how much people are discrediting us. I don’t think it will be an easy game. Baylor plays zone, they have length at most positions and they’ve played out of their mind sometimes at home against us. It’s also Isiah Austin night so who knows what effect that might have on the atmosphere. I’m sure they don’t want to go 0-2 in the Big 12 so hopefully Self gets these kids to understand just how truly important it is to come out punching.
I’m predicting we win, we’ve played pretty well against the zone this year. Hopefully we get the outside shots to go in, swing the ball well and don’t play stagnant offense.
Defensively rebound and limit Prince from draining 3’s are the keys I believe. They don’t have a go-to player although lately Motley their Forward has come on strong like Oubre.
Make 8-9 3’s, win the rebound margin, and play aggressive from the tip. Predicting 68-62 score.

Bring your gun- We’re Hunting BEAR …
Coach Self is pictured with his latest trophy.

PHOF!

Consensus is now Baylor 2-1/2, so not really a big change. And you are welcome on the information; sometimes is fun to see if the numbers support what you gut is telling you…I believeI was right on Self vs, Drew, but then it is just my opinion and others might disagree.
-
2 was the opening line and quickly changed to 3 (consensus) and now, 1 hour before game it has settled at 2-1/2 (consensus).
-
I say we win a reasonably tight game by 6 or 7.
-
Nice to get the W. I have my gut reactions to how we squeaked this out but need to see stats. My gut reaction is both teams were a bit off and we hung tough down the wire.
