  • ##Jesse Newell’s Game Day Analysis: ## ###Towson’s hope against KU hinges on free throws, offensive rebounds###

####Kansas looks to speed up Towson####

CJ Online - “It’s almost like we’ve played defensive when we’re on defense,” the 11th-year KU coach said. “Basketball’s a game of comfort zones, and we need to operate in ours and get our opponent out of theirs.

####Keegan: Frank Mason latest to market KU basketball with dunk####

KU Sports - It certainly doesn’t rank in the top five of reasons the Kansas basketball program is the No. 1 choice of so many elite athletes, but the lob play might just be the most subtle factor that never is discussed.

####Ex-Towson signee Frank Mason off to good start with KU#### KU Sports - A failing grade in a government class his senior year at Petersburg (Va.) High School cost Frank Mason a spot on Towson University’s basketball team — the one that meets Kansas University in a 7 p.m. tip today in Allen Fieldhouse…

  • “Newell: Kansas looks to speed up Towson”

    Another solid piece by Jesse.

As I mentioned before, Self needs to put a little rock in their shoe heels so they stop standing flat footed. This team needs to move their feet more, on both defense and offense. Players are thinking too much and need to loosen up and engage their bodies into service at all times. Instead, we are seeing players standing and watching and then throwing out spurts of movement as a reaction. Basketball is a game of motion… Self may call it “speeding up.”

@drgnslayr Nice thought. Self uses lots of euphemisms and it takes insight like yours to decrypt some of them.

  • @drgnslayr Self uses lots of euphemisms…

I previously used a lot of euphemisms too on kusports.com - although most of those were anatomical. Like @nuleafjhawk , however, I too have turned over a nuleaf and for the sake of civility I have sworn off… rather quit using such expressions. Follow me, to civility!

  • After clicking the link to the LJW article on Mason/Towson, It is blatanly obvious why so many of us no longer will post on their message boards. At least a half dozen of 13 total comments are about name calling within their posting members. Agree to disagree, but please spare people the facebook schpiel about decency. Ideas in posts are basically worthless to read when peppered with the garbage that prevails there. As TCJ states on their reply to new members, posting is a privilege, not a right. Once again approx., you’ve done well with the format we’ve established here. And what a major coup it is to have Jesse Newell and his keen abilities & inside reporting to re-establish as a contributor with our group. Long live kubuckets.

  • Also I must add what is most disappointing to me personally is that even with a couple of great, intuitive analogies from a couple of the best rats ever to comment on their blog, the haters just whisk by them & do what they do best. We can all have an “I told you so” attitude occasionally, but there are some extremely disrespectful people there who have basically nothing positive to say.

  • @globaljaybird - when I was reading/browsing/posting at the “other” place, I would occasionally find myself being “chippy”. I am really enjoying the fact that life seems much more civil ( thank you @CivilHawk !) here and I really hope it stays that way. Life is hard enough without arguing and name calling over basketball and football with people who share a love for all things KU. Of course we’re going to disagree sometimes, but we just need to remember that everyone views life and basketball (same thing?) from a different perspective.

  • global … I seriously try over there to talk hoops a bit.

What’s comical now is there are so many folks with face screen names. There’s some dude named “Benz Junque”, another “Eric TheCapn”. The whole purpose of their policy is really gone. And it’s not that “civil”.

Now we need to get Oak over here. I just posted again to see if he’d bite.

  • I’m surprised nobody picked up Jesse’s excellent scouting report on Townson. Very informative as usual.

  • HEM-Shortly after the Exodus I direct messaged oak & jb about joining bus here at kubuckets. Throughout the years whenever I’d messaged them, they always graciously returned replies. Upon this occasion there has been only silence and although the reason remains a little puzzling, all we can do is try. Your valiant efforts to create applicable & valuable discourse are unfortunately falling on mostly deaf ears, yet there are undoubtedly some who still appreciate your efforts. Oakville is as witty as ever, yet the mainstream membership there seems not to care one iota about a perspective that is either cagey, penetrating, or divergent. Thanks for the slice of character you continue to deliver here to share, and maybe, just maybe we can finally get Oakvillejhawk to sail with the brethren on this ship. The wind is certainly with our sails.

  • Thanks for the link, Wishawk!

And thanks to everyone for not turning this site into name calling. I welcome anyone to disagree with anything I write… it’s the best way to push the window on content.

This is a site about opinions… not so much about facts. I’m guessing everyone in here is an adult, especially since everyone seems to act like one!

As more people arrive here, and approx continues to improve the features… we are quickly passing the quality of KUSports even in it’s hay day!

I’ve already turned the corner… I’m glad everything went down the way it did (now)!

We just have to monitor things as members. If someone starts getting rude, we talk him down. If we keep the over all tone reasonable in here then it will really stick out when someone steps out of place.

More than name calling, I think the biggest crime is to disrespect someone. Obviously, a fast way to get there is to call out names, but there are plenty of ways to be disrespectful, and up until now I can’t recall anyone trying that here.

If you can’t win an argument by remaining respectful…

I’m constantly amazed when people can’t keep it respectful, even in a place where the crowd is for the same team!

  • I’m surprised nobody picked up Jesse’s excellent scouting report on Townson.

@Wishawk I didn’t see that but I can add it to the list at the top. Thanks!

  • @civilhawk If I had heroes, you could possibly be one of them

@globaljaybird I also thought the comments on KUSports were of exceptionally poor quality. I guess using real names doesn’t prevent trolls

@highelitemajor You are right–we do need to Oakville over here. I always enjoy his posts.

Here’s hoping for a great game tonight!

  • I enjoyed reading your post.

  • Great article by JNewell. Glad to see him posting here a bit. Let’s see what the boys do against Towson…RCJH!
