Not sure about this ESPN plus thing

  • was looking over the Basketball Schedule. - Now yes I DO have the ESPN Plus - -however , I think it kind of stinks - how they almost forcing people even though it’s only 5 bucks a month - -just had a chance to look over the Schedule

Kinda Sucks - -they have BOTH of the West Virginia games on ESPN Plus - - They have the so called Hilton Magic game on ESPN Plus - - then they have the TCU game on ESPN Plus at this point.

I think having the Iowa State game on ESPN Plus is a joke - - this has become I feel a pretty hot rival - -especially at Hilton and were relegated to ESPN Plus for this game ? - - Come on man - -Seriously? - -Having to have BOTH West Virginia games on ESPN Plus - -that sucks.

Just wonder how many of the all mighty ACC - -or the oh so powerful SEC games are going to be relegated to ESPN Plus? - -bottom line it’s BS. - -I can see ya some of the lower non con’s on there but when you get into the meat of your Schedule and this is what we got? - - So my friends - -you don’t have it then sorry to say looks like your being forced if you want to see it ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @jayballer73 get used to it bro, in the near future we’ll have to pay for everything sport rated. Even bowling.

lmao - - umm hell no - -you won’t see me pay to watch NO ONE roll a little round ball down a piece of wood roflmao

  • It’s all based off of ratings, nearly 65% of all sports viewership come from the east coast. Those teams will be on the ESPN family more. If you wanna to help. Don’t watch anything but KU on the ESPN networks. That’s all I do anymore.

solid thought - -but I love my sports man - -hard to do that

  • @jayballer73 Well, you are correct: I looked at schedules for Duke, UNC, UVA, ND, and Clemson. I also checked UK.

NONE of their games are currently scheduled for ESPN+, but like us, there are a lot of blank spots in their schedules where the network will be decided later spparently.

But hold your rage: all the ACC schools have between 8 and 11 games scheduled on the ACC network, and UK has 9 on the SEC network. Those are ESPN based operations. Everyone getting those on cable, satellite, or streaming pays some type of fee for them whether hidden or not.

Until we have a Big 12 network available nationwide, just think of ESPN+ as a comparable network you pay for directly instead of through your cable or satellite bill. And also, KU prominently appears on the ESPN+ schedule, maybe more than any other school, which reflects us as a national brand. Pretty good, actually!

    Hope this helps.

Well that’s true - - forgot about that awesome ACC network lol. - -Actually when I had dish/now have direct - - BUT when I had Dish I had the SEC network & the Pac 12 Network - -on one of the sports packages I had - -just love watching College Basketball - -any Conference. - -guess I was just thinking that this whole ESPN plus thing was just ANOTHER way ESPN was trying to put the screws to KU & suck up to the ACC - -still feel bad for my buddies that really don’t want to have to pay ESPN to see our Jayhawks. - -Never in my day did I ever think there would come a day whee I would have to pay to watch TV lol

But hell I’m as old as dirt lol - -I can remember when I was a kid and we had like 3 channels our local Topeka Channel and a KC channel - -big old metal frame TV that worked of tubes we had to replace every so often lol - -told ya I was old - - ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

  • @jayballer73 Lol - but you’ll watch a guy BOUNCE a little round ball up and down a wood court?

well actually I guess these guys DO actually roll even a basketball down that wood sometimes to save clock - - -my bad lol

  • It’s time for KU to leave the Big12 and join the BIG which has its own network for any games CBS/ESPN/FS1/Fox doesn’t pick up. I just looked at the schedule too and saw both WVU games and an ISU game on ESPN+. This AD, nice hire of Les Miles, poor management of the basketball TV schedule as the number of ESPN+ games almost doubling.

The thing is, someone above mentioning we’ll have to start paying for our games. We already are paying ESPN through our cable/dish deals. I understand there’s not enough channels to show every game, but in its infancy ESPN3 allowed you to log in through your cable provider and watch myriads of games. It was great! And logical since it limited the viewers to subscribers only. Now, well screw all of us subscribers, thanks for decades of paying for our channel, now you’re going to pay us again.

And this is to pay a network that won’t leave a blowout until it’s over and then preempt our game to show Duke warming up. My level of dislike of espn grows by the year, yet if I want to watch my teams I’ve got to turn to that channel.

  • If I lived in an area where it’s normally hard to see KU play I could see the value in ESPN+ as a supplement to the regularly aired game. As a stand alone service it’s not so great, but it is nationally available. I just live in-state and until recently it was real easy to see every single KU game, so this having to purchase ESPN+ in addition to searching out the other games over the air is an additional hassle. The way I’d position it is as a simultaneous broadcast with different announcers and more pre and post game stuff to differentiate the product drawing people in. No by holding 1/4 of the schedule hostage and forcing people over. Hell I’d probably like ESPN+ if I had a choice in the matter.

  • @dylans I could see that in your position, living out in the sticks like I do. It’s nice to have the option to watch. I personally would be fine if it went back to how it was in the 90s/ early 00s. I didn’t have cable back then still living with my folks but for years what is now the CW was the Jayhawk Network. You could watch the coaches shows Sunday at 11, got 2 football games and 5 or 6 basketball games. Then Fox was the big 12 network station where you could watch several conference games. CBS also used to carry 3 or 4 conference games on Saturday instead of the 1 or 2 they do now. In the NCAA tournament the local teams always played on CBS. I feel like I was able to watch 75% of KU basketball games with bunny ears. Bout the only thing I didn’t get was big Monday and the Maui tournament.

  • I guess I am less offended for having to pay for ESPN+ for a few months than some as I already pay to watch what I want to see. I dumped cable a couple of years ago and just use online tv services for everything now. Some are like Espn+ where I pay for it just long enough to watch KUBB then shut it off, others like Netflix I keep pretty much all the time, mainly to keep the grandkids happy. Overall it’s cheaper and tbh we spend a heck of a lot less time staring at the TV and spend more time doing the stuff we didn’t seem to ever have time for before. Then again I did miss that HBO show with dragons and so i was told half dressed gals with swords 🙂

  • As a subscriber to the Wichita Eagle, they inundate me with 4 or 5 emails a day to make sure I’m up-to-date on the “breaking news” most of which is a repeat from an earlier email. This is a portion of an article the link to which popped in this afternoon:

Looking for how to watch the upcoming Wichita State men’s basketball games this season?

While the majority of games are available on cable television, the first five games of the season and seven non-conference games will be available only to Cox subscribers on YurView Kansas (formerly Cox 22).

Not a Cox subscriber? You won’t be able to watch the games on television without a Cox subscription, but you will be able to livestream games on a laptop, phone or tablet by going to YurView.com/Kansas and clicking on that night’s game.

Anybody know anything about this as it would relate to KU games? I’m not interested in the WSU games, but wonder if there is anything like this for KU. The site looks pretty good, easy to navigate.

  • For what it’s worth, this is going on everywhere. Both dook and UNC have a few games on ACC Network Extra, basically the ACCN’s streaming channel. Also have games on RTN, a garbage local station that most providers don’t carry but might be on FS Go or something random. Not just Big 12 thing. Every major conference is trending that way.

  • @bcjayhawk I think it must be just WSU games. Cox does still show most pre and post game KU shows. No KU Vb either, just WSU sports.

  • Sucks!
