FRANK CLARK WHO NO ONE WILL LOVE MORE THAN CHIEFS FANS
-
You knew something was up when they weren’t having a draft party.
I like it.
Now go flip your other 2nd round picks for Peterson.
-
Dee Ford had an outlier year. Glad the Chiefs got something for him, but it seems they may have overpaid for potential pr problems.
-
lol at twitter right now.
We just locked up a 25 year old elite DE for 5 years. It was a fine deal. We can pay half of the guaranteed cash this year alone.
-
He’s a good get for them, but at this point they may as well have kept Hunt. Apparently they are cool with guys beating their GF if it was a few years back.
-
@Kcmatt7 I think there is over 60 million guaranteed. It’s a hefty commitment.
-
@dylans we have $30M in cap space this year left starting June 1 with really no one left to spend it on.
His salary in year one should be like $1m.
But his bonus in year one should be $30M. Which cuts half of the guaranteed.
Now it’s a 4 year $70M with only 30M guaranteed staring next season. That’s reasonable.
-
The numbers I’m looking at must be wrong then. I see 22 million in cap space less 4.5 million in future commitments to drafted players. Before the Clark deal.
Crazy money considering the Chiefs weren’t willing to pay a qb over 20 million a couple years ago. Now they locked in a DE for 20 mil a year for 5 years. 63 million guaranteed likely spread out over 3 years if not the life of the contract in the form of a signing bonus.

He had better be an amazing football player; he’s proven to be of poor character.

Why’d they get rid of Hunt and pay this dude $105 million? This is worse. I believe it’s deemed ok simply because there is no video.

$9M more comes open Jun 1 from cutting Berry.
A hefty Roster Bonus will likely be put in place in year 1, which will be apart of the guaranteed money (and moves the cap hit to June if he makes the team or the 2020 cap if he were cut for some reason). Either way, it will basically move it so they can use the Berry money.
The remaining signing bonus money will be spread out over the 5 years of the deal. Probably only $25M signing bonus.
As far as “crazy money” goes, the cap has increased 30M since then. Contracts reflect that.
I’m definitely not going to comment on his character. It’s not my call who we sign. And getting into some sort of ethical discussion about it likely will lead to nothing but trouble. However, I agree that his character is less than ideal.
-
@Kcmatt7 I’m becoming less than enthused at the character of “my” Chiefs team. I’m having a hard time getting behind this move regardless of his football dominance. Like KU basketball I only watch the Chiefs and possibly the championship game, if it weren’t for Mahomes I wouldn’t watch a single NFL game given the Hill, Clark, Hunt, Belcher, etc. junk.
Domestic violence and the FBI have all but ruined sports for me.
I forgot about rolling the Berry dead money into 2 years instead of taking the hit this year.
-
@dylans I literally could have written this same thing - word for word. Well, I probably wouldn’t have said anything about the FBI because I just don’t care - BUT - I also would have mentioned that what is really ruining it for me (NFL) is the money. It is ridiculous, obscene, unjust, unfair and possible inhumane to pay these idiots that kind of money.
105.5 MILLION for 5 years? Cure some cancer - that justifies the money. Get rid of illegal drugs - that justifies the money. Clean our water and our air - that justifies the money. Give me some World Peace, put an end to poverty, hunger, sickness in third world countries (America too!) - that justifies the money. Make a cell phone that won’t operate inside of a started vehicle - that justifies the money.
You know what does NOT justify 105.5 MILLION dollars for 5 years for me? Tackling a guy carrying a football.
-
@nuleafjhawk The players getting paid is not the players fault. If it wasn’t going into the player’s pockets, it would be going into the owner’s.

Again, I do not think this is a great topic to get into. At least not if people are going to look at it emotionally instead of from a philosophical viewpoint. Which, is basically a guarantee. So, I say we just table it. What’s done is done.
-
@Kcmatt7 I can sleep at night knowing that I don’t support the habit.
The last pro game I went to was 10 years ago. Four tickets, 8 rows up in the end zone (so not great seats…) Between tickets, parking, programs, $9 hot chocolate (it was in the middle of December) it was right at about $500 for four of us.
Done.
-
@nuleafjhawk I think I went to one of my last Royals games just this year. We got the cheapest tickets they had online. We got parking online for cheaper than the gate. We got two beers. It was over $60 for two of us.
You just can’t afford to go to live sports anymore.
However, if you watch the games, you are still supporting it. Ratings are what matter in the TV industry. And sports is one of the few things left that advertisers will pay top dollar for spots on because you don’t have a choice but to watch the commercials. Contracts have increased so much because of TV and advertising money, not because of the price of a hot dog.
-
@Kcmatt7 We could debate this for a while ( you’d win because you’re smarter than I am ) but, the bottom line is I think we’re both agreeing that pro sports are becoming less and less important to us.
I had to laugh about the Royals comment though - last year was the first Royals game I’d been to in …20 or so years. Again, four of us - we paid something like $38 apiece for tickets. For some reason, the angelic parking attendant just waved us through so we didn’t have to pay the $20 or $30 parking fee. We bought a couple of programs, a couple of pops, couple of beers. I don’t remember the prices, but they were exorbitant.
So, while we’re waiting to get into the stadium, people are coming up and buying tickets at the gate for $8. If i ever go to another game, that’s how I’ll do it.
-
@nuleafjhawk Attending sports live is definitely something I have disdain for… I can agree on that no doubt.
-
I’d be a season ticket holder for KU basketball if I was closer. Pro sports - meh.
Please, don’t ruin sports for me feds/NCAA!

But, we have such quality players like mahomes. There are many more that give so much to our community. Salvy and Duffy too. More guys than I know. I know Dayton and the Royals have charity events they support. There are more quality guys than bad, many of them go to Jayhawk games.

And even “bad” guys can end up doing a lot for a community afterward, when the realize they need to change and they become devoted to giving back.
I come from a much rougher family than most would ever believe, so I HAVE to believe in 2nd chances. Even for some heinous stuff. People screw up. Sometimes, they do truly awful things. But many people can change. Many people WANT to be good people, they just go down the wrong path. They do something they never even believed they were capable of.
And a few years later that same person could turn into one of the best people you know. I have many, many examples of people like this in my own personal life. And it’s why I usually feel so strongly about giving people a second chance.
-
@Crimsonorblue22 It’s more like a true false statement to me. One false thing makes the whole statement false. One woman beater, one child beater, one rapist, one killer - ruins the whole bunch. You can’t balance it out.
And here’s why I don’t believe in second chances for shitty people - gave one to my bros wife and she murdered him. Circumstances change, people don’t. Bad people in good places may not make bad decisions, but put back in a position to do so they almost always will. People are painfully predictable - they generally take the easy path with very few exceptions and most repeat the actions of their past.
So why bring a guy with a known woman beating past into your home town? It’s on Veach if he does something to someone’s daughter in K.C. You’d think the Hill drama would be aplenty. That’s another case of I hope he’s innocent, because if he’s not he deserves jail and I feel disgusted at myself for rooting for him.
-
Clark probably makes good football sense as long as the fans are ok with it. If the fans get sick of bad dudes they will stop signing them. And maybe he won’t cause any problems. I just think whoever hires/ drafts these guys of known questionable character ought to be held accountable for their actions.
-
@dylans If they continue to win then fans won’t care. I am not saying that is right but that is just the way it is. If they go to the SB this year then nobody will be talking about character issues.
I remember people flipping out about Tyreke Hill when he was drafted, and then he become a top 5 WR in the NFL and people wear his jersey all over town and chant his name when he returns punts.
-
@Woodrow yup.
-
Fans are funny…
Kneel for the National Anthem, they want to burn you at the stake and will boycott a season in mass.
Beat a woman, but your an Olympic level speedster? Just, uh, please don’t do that again. Will you sign my jersey?
-
@dylans First of all, I’m very sorry for your loss and hope that you and your family are able to find peace in the midst of the storm.
Well, that does it for me on this subject. It’s too volatile, too sensitive and no matter what I feel, this is probably not the right forum for something like this.
-
@nuleafjhawk Here’s how I attend Sox games. Buy the cheapie tickets at the gate. Enter the stadium and look at the tickets page for the Sox. Find box seats that are unpurchased and unlikely to be purchased, and move to those seats. No one ever comes and boots us out and you get great seats for cheap.
-
@wissox That definitely doesn’t work in Allen Fieldhouse fwiw.
-
@dylans Might have a fight on my hands?
-
@wissox Ain’t no seats!
