Watching Duke win hurts. I will admit that I cheer for Duke to lose every game that they play. In all sports, they are the only team who produces a win and I actually lose sleep after they win a big game. It is petty and I feel sub-human when I enjoy other people’s misery but I truly hate this program. Coach K is a pious, self righteous, arrogant fake and I hate this team and all of his teams. I just wanted to get this out there with friends. Maybe the recent KU loss is still too fresh, but I personally think Duke is bad for the game. Before anyone places judgement please just remember that Bilas calls most of their regular season games and Grant Hill just called this one.

@joeloveshawks anyone that calls themselves the brotherhood,

@joeloveshawks Duke is garbage, a cancer, a winner by technicalities, friendly whistles, and doing whatever they can get away with. They try to act like their athletes are scholars, and that Coach K is a kindly old paternal figure (he’s a raging, whiny, entitled sh—head). In a world filled with BS, the last, last, LAST thing I want to do when I try to escape in my sports is watch the embodiment of that BS on my screen polluting a game I love, and getting rewarded for it. F—k Duke.
You’re not alone.

“Coach” K recruits and works the refs. That is all he does. Geez it takes a freaking halftime adjustment to get the ball to Zion the block?
-
@joeloveshawks With you all the way. After last night’s lucky escape, I just not could stop saying, “No freaking way!” They truly make me sick. They should have already lost…twice!

@jayballer73 Oh how I hope! Is it wrong to pray to God for Duke to lose?

lol I dunno - - maybe - -BUT you can always ask to be forgiven later right? We probably shouldn’t be like that but I’m right there with you. - - - Thing is I have to take the words I often use myself and pay heed to them. - -Like I have often said to other people from other teams when they talk smack about our boys - - I always tell them - - -well you know Success brings envy. - - -So I guess as much as I hat it - -I have to practice what I preach lol - -but I always have and I always will say - - - - - - - - - - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY

Like I’ve said the past several years with Dook and UK, If they don’t win it I laugh. Dook gets ten times the media coverage as any other program, even if they lose in the first like they did in 2012 and 2014. Them and UK get the best players nearly every single year. They are the Yankees of CBB, buy the best players and still screw it up 90% of the time.
-
@joeloveshawks Good post! Duke has become such that I would even cheer for Kentucky against them. If they do play each other we’ll hear no end of THE GREATEST SHOT OF ALL TIME, which is exhibit 1A of media hype, because that was a shot in the quarterfinals. It wasn’t a shot like Mario’s that actually prevented a team from losing the NC they were about to win. No, it was a shot just to get them to the FF.
And here’s my beef with the media, because they are partially responsible for the Duke hate. Most Americans think the same way we do. They’re tired of Duke. They’re tired of the non-stop coverage. The NCAA of course appears to be ignoring the ways in which Duke and Kentucky are stacking their lineup with top kids so many of us hold ill feelings towards Duke as they snare kid after kid.
I generally don’t dislike Duke players. Grayson is the one notable exception. No hate for Laettner like some have. I can’t even think of anyone else I’ve disliked, so it’s really these systems I’ve mentioned that lead to so much of this dislike of their team.
-
@wissox I genuinely like Zion and the way he has handled himself this season. He’s not worried about protecting the goods, he wants to win and I respect him for that. He easily could’ve done what Bol did and sat himself out for the rest of the year when he hurt his knee like a lot of people were encouraging him to do, but he wants to win and I respect him for that.
I haven’t seen anything that Zion personally has said or done that’s made me dislike him, it’s everything else around him like the constant ESPN coverage that gets old real quick and why I really only ever watch ESPN anymore to watch the games I want to watch. I don’t really watch their talk shows or Sportscenter much anymore because I can get scores and highlights on my phone whenever I want.
Zion’s situation is very similar to Lonzo Ball. Lonzo seems like a good person and has kept himself out of trouble and controversy, but it’s his surroundings that have made a lot of people dislike him.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 Yeah, I’m the same way about ESPN.
I watch the games I want to, but that’s it.
As hoops winds up and baseball gets going they’ll switch from wall to wall Duke coverage to wall to wall yanks/bos coverage, except of course they’ll talk about the NFL. ESPN has made me dislike the NFL to be honest, they talk about it all year, but they don’t talk about my favorite baseball all year, nor college hoops all year, and to be honest, I don’t want to hear about those all year!
-
@wissox You didn’t hate JJ Redick? Or Bobby Hurley?
-
I actually don’t mind Zion, but both of those games last night (Kentucky and Duke) irritated me more than any games I’ve watched all season, including some of KU’s worst games. Duke and UK are good enough to not have to be LUCKY also. Blech.
-
@Texas-Hawk-10 100% agree buddy, Zion is a lot like Josh Jackson was here (Zion is better tho). Its hard to get kids to hustle nowadays unfortunately but both those guys did or do, which is uncharacteristic for OADs. I used to be a ESPN 24/7 guy. I woke up and watched sports center every morning, watched just about every 30 for 30. But I grew tired of them being political and firing people that had differing opinions than them. I also got fed up with the constant ACC/SEC and Lebron coverage like no one else existed in the sports world.
-
@DanR No, I don’t remember hating those guys. Especially Hurley. I didn’t have ESPN during the Reddick years so maybe I didn’t watch too much of him to develop a hatred, but if you hated him, then that’s good enough for me too, yes, I hate him!
-
@kjayhawks think how diff the year could have been if Grimes had hustle and heart like Zion.
-
@Fightsongwriter very true, I watch a fair amount of local high school games and a crap load college games. Getting kids to play hard is becoming more and more difficult and it’s easy to see. When I was in high school, if coach didnt think we went hard we ran suicides after the game til we could barely stand. Cant do stuff like that nowadays, just gotta get the few kids that want to compete and win.
-
I still can’t believe that Grant Hill is calling this fucking Duke game.
-
Man I enjoyed watching that game. Nice work MSU.

I’ll say it again…recruits and yells At refs.
Go look at the lottery picks K has had the last 10 years and the final fours. Wastes more talent than anyone in history.

Are you aware how many Duke alums are on announcing crews? Its nuts.
-
@joeloveshawks I think he was last season when KU played Duke in the E8 too. And then you have Bilas and Williams on ESPN. And Greenberg is an ACC guy too. It’s pretty bad.
-
Having the stable of CBS announcers in the tourney is such a change of pace from all of the ESPN bores. I’ve enjoyed the announcers this entire weekend.
-
I didn’t have an issue with Hill, the other guys acted like Duke was up 20 the whole game and seemed to be cheering them on fairly hard. Oddly enough I enjoy Bilas and Jay Williams, I think they call it as it is. I cant stand Greenberg or Fran. Overall the tournament commentors are light years above ESPNs IMO.
