  • Nebraska still plays basketball?

Apparently they are putting a lot of money into it akin to what KU is doing in football to try and revitalize the program.

Can confirm. They’re entire athletic complex is bananas nice. All housed in Memorial which is cool.

  • @BShark Revitalize the program? What’s there to revitalize? It’s never been vital has it?

  • @wissox Danny Nee is hurt you dont thibk he was vital.

  • @Fightsongwriter Not sure about the Danny Nee is hurt comment, but 7 dances overall with Nary a sweet 16 appearance means a program that has never been vital. I was being a little snarky to be honest, but I never think of Nebraska basketball and vital!

  • @wissox Vital, no - but to be fair, the roundball Cornhuskers were very solid and competitive for a fairly long stretch - from the latter end of Slippery Cip’s tenure (before he passed), through Moe Iba, and especially under Nee. They did make the NCAA or NIT 14 out of 17 years during that time. Collier was a big disappointment as the coach following Nee, Doc was okay, and Miles has been a disappointment (particularly relative to expectations).

Is NU basketball ever going to be vital? Maybe not, but with their facilities, the right coach, e.g., a Hoiberg, could certainly make them relevant in the B10.

  • It’s unimaginable to me, though, how far Nebraska football has fallen. What a great program. Now, middling. One event – changing conferences. Man, I wish we could get NE and Colorado back. That would make 12 pretty nice.

  • @HighEliteMajor I hear you on that. That second love of mine needs a good competitor in the western division.

@dylans You are right, they were good for a while.

Last week I saw Nebraska play in the BIG tournament. Miles was a blast to watch. He has a great personality and appears to be very outgoing and friendly. Just watching him interact at the before the game with the opposing coaches was cool to watch. I hope he survives and hangs on.

  • @wissox Not me defending the Huskers. One of their drunken fans broke my nose with a cheap shot. (At the bar Giddens got stabbed in, go figure). I liked the 2 guaranteed wins when they were in conference, same with Colorado. We did have an advantage with them in our half of the split conference. However the Texas teams had the advantage of not having to play KU twice as they soon came to realize.

  • @dylans Ahh, my bad, started typing and was trying to remember who had sang their praises, turns out it was @DCHawker!

  • @wissox Well, wasn’t intending to sing hosannahs - perhaps more damning with faint praise… 😉

It goes to show that any program can fall from grace. One bad hire away.

  • @BShark … that should ring quite true around here. You don’t know what you have until it’s gone. But I think we know and appreciate what we have with Self.

  • I do expect Nebraska to get going again in Football.

  • I wonder why Hoiberg didn’t wait to see what other jobs opened up. You’d think he would have had his pick of the jobs. Vandy seems like a better place to land than Nebraska… The A&M job is more attractive. UCLA. UNLV.

He must just really like being in the Midwest.

Actually, for some people I could see Nebraska being a much better job than UCLA. I believe UCLA did ask Hoiberg.

Also Hoiberg is from Lincoln if you didn’t know.

And his grandpa was the coach there about 60 years ago. Has about as much connection to Nubs as Iowa State.

  • If Prohm goes to bama, will hoiberg want and can he still go back to isu?

  • @Crimsonorblue22 Sounds like ISU and Prohm are working on an extension.

Oops should’ve posted that yesterday. It’s a done deal.

  • Miles has officially been fired

  • We need to consider ourselves lucky. When UCLA can’t get their guy, but Nebraska can, you just have to appreciate your success in the moment.

People who think we will have our pick of the litter once Bill leaves will be sorely mistaken I think. I legitimately believe Beard to UT is done as soon as they can possibly afford it. I think Tony Bennett wouldn’t even be a shoe in, and half of our fans don’t want him. Will Wade would have been a good pick until recent events.

    Anyways, good for Nebraska.

I 100% agree with this. People think just because we are KU we can go get whoever we want. I have seen people mention Brad Stevens, Billy Donovan, etc… A lot of people have no idea of what the real search would look like.
